no way man offsetting penalties! in the nfl players are required to keep their chin snaps in place and dude didn't even know where his chin was after that hit!!!!! can't wait!!!!
How come Rex can't just coach up Kerley to play safety? Thats what all the best teams are doing these days.
I had a question and I think this is the best thread to ask. Assuming Alexander takes a little time to learn, would putting Cro as a safety on obvious passing downs work in theory? I figure if there is a potential of a run, then Cro would not be able to either shed a block or come up and make a tackle. But, on passing downs would he able to get by on a few downs by either trying to read the QB or blitzing?
Are you suggesting that refs will more often than not let that hit go by without a penalty? Unnecessary roughness penalties (leading with helmet) can be applied to any players (not just QBs and defenseless players), and is largely open to refs' interpretations of the rule book. http://static.nfl.com/static/content/public/image/rulebook/pdfs/15_Rule12_Player_Conduct.pdf If you look at the nfl rulebook, under rule 12, section 2, article 8(f), it states the following. This rule does not require the player to be in a defenseless state, and as mentioned, is largely up to the referees' personal interpretations on what constitutes an unnecessary and/or a violent hit. I highly doubt that any referee would look at that hit and consider it non-violent, and as a legal hit. Please find me a credible source that will indicate such a hit in the NFL will go unnoticed. RBs in the league intentionally lead with their helmets to draw this flag against defenses all the time. It's one of the popular RB strategy because it's difficult to make a defender look like a victim upon helmet to helmet contact on a tackle.
Thats why I figured maybe only on obvious passing downs but then we may require him to still make a tackle to stop someone short of the down marker.
Just pulled this from the Twitter thread. He seems to be motivated to learn the new system. Hopefully, if needed, he will be ready to play.
Good to hear. Let's hope he surprises us all. Continuity is good, but if this team has 2 new starting safties come next season I won't be disappointed.
What's the deal with Tracy Wilson? I think I saw him make a play on ST last week, but other than that, I don't recall him in any of the Defensive packages. Will Wilson be ahead or behind Alexander this week?
