I think we'll be able to lose one and still make it. we only need Oak or Den to drop out not both. Let's assume we lose one more to Phi or NYG so we have 5 AFC losses Oak plays: @GB Det @ KC SD They will lose at least one and should lose at least 2 Ten plays: NO @ Indy Jax @Hou They will lose at least 1 and if Hou needs the last one for seeding they will likely lose 2. Ten has 4 AFC losses right now Cincy: Hou @ SL Ari Bal They will likely lose at least 2 since Bal will likely need the W in week 17 to clinch seed/division. Cincy has 4 AFC losses right now We are in good shape if we take care of business. I think 10-6 will get us in but hopefully we go 11-5
It wouldn't shock me if Chicago beat Denver. Broncos have been winning every game in their streak by last minute comebacks/OT. Their luck could run out at any time. Anyway, I'm more concerned about Tenn/Cinn. If the Jets lose once, we will need both of those two two (and either OAK or Denver) to lose at least 2. Tenn has NO this week at home, which they can win (NO 3-3 on road). If the Jets go 11-5, and miss the playoffs, I think it would be the first time an 11-5 team missed out.
I think 11-5 puts us in the playoffs. But, it wouldn't be the first time a team with that record missed the post season. The '85 Broncos and '08 Patriots both missed the post season with 11-5 records.
The Jets got very lucky in 2009. I just don't believe that kind of luck comes around very often. I think there are three possible outcomes this season: 1. They get very lucky again in which case 10-6 gets in despite their lousy tiebreakers. 2. They break even on the luck and 10-6 is out but 11-5 gets in. 3. They get as unlucky this year as they got lucky in 2009 and 11-5 gets left out. I think #2 is the most likely scenario.
The Jets stand a decent chance of going 11-5, but 10-6 is more realistic. Oakland probably loses to Green Bay, probably loses to Detroit, moderate shot at beating KC (but Oakland is on a slide and after losing to GB and Det, they may be beyond hope). San Diego? Loss. No Playoffs for them. Titans - Saints? Loss. Indy? Win. Jacksonville? Win. Houston? Loss. 9-7 Bengals - Houston? Win (@home). Rams? Win. Arizona? Win. Baltimore? Loss. Bengals are our biggest threat but we'll see. Anything can happen and Cinci is on a slide.
There is still a lot of football left! There is still a non-zero chance that Miami could make the playoffs! Scenario: Phins win out Jets: go 0-4 or 1-3 with loss to miami Bengals: 0-4 or 1-3 with 2 AFC losses Titans: 0-4 or 1-3 with 2 AFC losses Raiders/Broncos: 0-4 Denver or Raiders 0-4 or 1-3 with 1 AFC loss Looking a lot more likley the Phins will win out than the Jets right now. From a jets standpoint there are some other less likely ways, but certainly not impossible, for us to get in: Baltimore or NE could go 1-3 or 0-4 Pitt could go 0-4, 1-3 or 2-2 with 2 more AFC losses None of these 3 teams are unbeatable My point is that the discussions about the likelyhood of what might happen to other teams is the wrong thing to focus on, the main concern is can the jets go 3-1 or 4-0? That to me seems about as likely to me as NE going 1-3.
No Forte either...... Strong possibilty HOU & BAL have nothing to play for week 17. could be an exciting New Years day :breakdance:
There's a strong possibility at the least they will both be playing for a 1st rd bye which is huge. Bal will probably need to win to hold off Pitt, Hou has the division in hand but may need the win for seeding purposes.
I hope so, but I don't see HOU cracking a top 2 seed...... not on their 3rd QB. 1&2 North winner and PATS I expect them to drop one or 2, but win their Div. and not have much to play for week 17.
Totally agree. I think there's basically NO CHANCE that Baltimore and Houston have nothing to play for in week 17. With the Ravens, Pats, Steelers, and Texans all sitting at 9-3, there's probably a 90% chance the Ravens will be fighting for a Divison title, #1 Seed, or 1st Round Bye. Houston is pretty much in the same position, except they might have their division wrapped up ... but that might also be unlikely with Yates at QB.
They have still been winning and they don't have any real difficult games left. They can go 4-0 w/ their sched, they aren't playing a team as tough as they played last week.
I think we'll lose one more, finish 10-6, and ultimately won't go to the play-offs because another team with our same record will. One between Titans and Bengals probably...
In a single word...No. No consistency...across the board. No consistency on defense, offense or special teams. I have, yet, to see one game this year where all three played lights out for 4 quarters.
That's where I'm at. This team hasn't convinced me that they can solidly beat ANY team in the NFL right now.... One Game at a time for me and frankly, I'm scared ####less of Kansas City.. KANSAS FREAKING CITY WORRIES ME!!!! PLAYOFFS........PLAYOFFS??????????? Puhlease.
Good analysis. Raiders are ending the season with tough games so Denver can enter playoffs with division & not wild card spot. I'm expecting Lions to really bring it against the Raiders because they've been waiting a long time for the playoffs & they're record is close enough to the Bears to keep the pressure on them. Never believed in Cincy. They had a nice record earlier but avoided Steelers & Ravens for so long. Their Houston game is tough & good possibility that Ravens need the last game to hold off the Steelers. Wouldn't surprise me if Rams or Cardinals also tag Bengals with a loss. Titans are the team which has me a worried. If Houston slips up, they'll be locked into #3 seed no matter what happens @ last game. Then they'd pull starters to rest up for playoff run. Titans play Saints this Sunday but they're @ home and Chris Johnson is really starting to look good-- so I'm expecting Titans to have a good chance on Sunday. === overall, I think Jets have excellent chance of jumping into that #6 this Sunday. They've got Chiefs & everyone battling Jets for WC spot has strong opponent this weekend.
I actually think that the Jets are not in that bad of a position and that if they make the playoffs that they have a very good chance of getting to the Super Bowl. I think that in order for them to make it they will have to win out the rest of the season. This means a record of 11-5 with a 6 game winning streak heading into the postseason. Any team going into the playoffs that hot certainly has to be considered very dangerous, and when you consider that no team in the AFC can be considered dominant this year it means that anything at all is possible. *edit. However, if they don't win out and finish 10-6 I don't think they get in at all.
In general I live my life by looking down the road as far as I can. It's my nature, and therefore I can totally understand posters here going through the scenarios and that sort of thing. But... Seasons in football proceed one game at a time. Each game is to be watched, enjoyed, understood for itself. Being a fan for all of us here is partly posting here and thoughts that go into it, but ultimately it starts with the games themselves. This year that is particularly true since we all are in basic agreement that a single loss could be devastating, and that the Jets could win out and possibly not make it in. It seems to be sufficient to understand that in terms of looking ahead, and as a consequence we should, as the players themselves should, be looking at it one game at a time. It won't do any good talking about scenarios of what might happen in weeks 16 and 17 assuming the Jets win both games until then if they, in fact, lose one or both. In other words, engaging in these analyses of playoff scenarios might be a bit beside the point. I hope not, and hope the Jets win out, but the last four games will be played one at a time, and there's enough talent on KC and enough inconsistency with the Jets that, like Blue, I am very concerned about this weekend's game. I hope the players are, too. And ftr I am not foolish enough to think or say that what we say or do here, or don't do or say, has anything to do with what the Jets themselves do. I merely think it best to take one game at a time.
