I saw, but you bumped it, implying you think he should be traded now.

Yeah, although I don't know how much we could have got for him then either.

party he was just trying to say he was right.

Obviously if the Mets had known what was going to happen, they would've traded him, but such is life.

Trading Santana in the offseason would be stupid unless the Mets re-sign Reyes (which they wont) and they need to save cap room to keep Wright and sign other free agents. If by the trade deadline the Mets seem out, then yes, but defenetly not now.

Well now that Reyes is gone, this idea seems pointless. Gotta have somebody to get people to come to the games.

Santana is obviously pretty close to unmoveable (except maybe to the Red Sox for Lackey in an attempt to save money... maybe not even then) However the Mets should move Wright immediately, the team is going to need a full rebuild, and Wright is the only asset that will get a good return.

What was the point exactly of holding on to Reyes vs dealing him before the trade deadline? To keep 27 Met fans in the tri-state area happy for 2 months?

Shoulda dealt him when they had the opportunity.

Looks like you just traded Brad Mills to the Angels for Jeff Mathis. I saw Mills pitch a few times in Vegas ,solid but certainly not an ace. Mathis was a former #1 prospect for the Angels but never panned out. With JP not sure what use for Mathis the Jays have unless they have plans for Arencebia to not play catcher.

The trade offers weren't better than the compensatory picks they get for having him reject arbitration and sign elsewhere would be my guess.

Makes sense, I wasn't hoping they'd be planning to get much out of Mathis. What are your thoughts on Mills?

If the Mets thought they were gonna get a comp picks worthwhile, they were crazy. It was a calculated risk that totally backfired on Alderson.

The Marlins are a worst case, as well. They have a protected first round pick, so that dosen't goto NYM. They signed Heath Bell before Reyes, so SDP gets the 2nd slot comp pick.

At best they get a pick in the mid 80s to mid 110s. Total failure.

and they get the sandwich pick in the low 30s.
What were the offers for Reyes? That's the problem with saying a sandwich and a 3rd is a failure, we have no idea what they were offered at the deadline. plus in the MLB draft a sandwich and a 3rd can end up being quite a bit on value.
