Sanchez is held to a higher standard. Announcers yesterday talking about Tebow - (this year's Wildcat by the way)- it doesn't matter how he does it he wins games and that is all that counts. Talking about Sanchez -- he just looks confused out there, holding the team back, blah blah blah - yet he wins, but that doesn't seem to count. Sanchez doesn't put up great numbers -- OK Cam Newton has put up some big numbers - what has that done for him? Stafford tossed for 400 yards yesterday - destroyed. If you are efficient, play within the game plan, and do what you have to you can put up average numbers and win. Would I like to see Sanchez toss the ball deep more and put up 300 yard games - I also enjoy winning any way that works best for the team.
And that's the thing. They used to Love Pennington when he was here. Sanchez is going to put up identical stats this year, and is even more of a clutch player... Go figure.
There's no way they put up identical stats. If you mean in terms of wins when healthy, then yes, if you mean in terms of overall points scored, then yes, but in terms of passing stats, not going to happen. Chad was hyper-accurate and had a fairly low number in terms of yards pass travels before the catch. Sanchez is much less accurate and has a higher number for yards pass travels before the catch. If nothing else Sanchez is going to be at least 5-6 pts below Chad's completion percentage at the end of the year. He'll also have about the same number of yards per pass attempt despite fewer completions because he routinely attempts 10-15 yard passes, something Chad chose not to, particularly in Schotty's system.
Since Pennington is being mentioned here, I would say the major difference between Mark and Chad is that Chad was accurate and competent but less physically gifted, Mark is more athletic but less able as a QB. Pennington knew the offense, recognized defense, felt pressure well, and always knew where to go with the ball....he just didn't always have the strength/atleticism to do what he knew needed to be done. Mark's got the arm strength and agility but doesn't seem to have the football head that Chad has. This is why we see the happy feet, the panic in the pocket, the bad decisions, etc.
I actually really liked Chad as a QB, but if you gave him the ball and he had to drive down the field in 1:30 or so you knew the game was over. When the defense knew the Jets were going to pass, they just jump on those quick slants all day, and knew Chad wasn't a real threat to throw a bullet down the field. Sanchez can win you a game, where as Pennington wouldn't lose you a game.
Close..not quite Identical. in 2006 and 2007 Penny's QBR was 82 and 86. Sanchez is right at 81 now.... Penny's bookend seasons 2004, 2008, (he was ...hurt in2005) were at a qbr of 90. Which speaks to the pint about Schotty's system being a QB killer.
Put any of the above performances with a good defense and they're all easy wins. Tebow's Denver team isn't this years wildcat, it is a wildcat offense. It's just got a QB that's best suited for the wildcat. It is worth noting that while Tebow has won a lot this year, it's also true he's beaten only one team with a winning record at the time (the Jets) The reality for Denver is the same as for the Jets, its' the Defense baby....That said they'll probably beat the injury devestated Bears just because the Bears have Zero offense now that Forte is gone and they're playing a poor QB.
