For the Bama fans in the thread, jsut how good can Mark Barron be? He seems like he may be a second round pick and a value if he's on the board at our pick. Does he have the upside to warrant a second round pick from the Jets or is he another Eric Smith waiting to happen ?
Like many of Bama's defensive prospects, Barron is ready to step in and start. At the same time though, there isn't much upside to them. He'll make a solid SS, he's really good in run support and displays about the amount of coverage you'd expect out of a SS. If you let him play center field, he'll come away with a pick or two. He can be exploited in coverage, but that doesn't mean he is bad in that regard. He can be fooled by fakes and may not be able to cover players 1 on 1 other than RBs and TEs with a token zone coverage...
Fair assessment to me. He also plays hurt, which is admirable, but can also be to his detriment, such as the Auburn game last year when he couldn't even lift his arm over his head. I think he's much better suited to be SS than FS with his hitting, and he seems to be more comfortable in run support or when he is able to focus in on covering one player.
