I don't know what game you were watching, but Schotty sucked today as much as ever, maybe more because it should have been easy to call plays today. Why 23 runs and 35 passes against a team that could not stop the run and with a QB who was struggling early? And 4 of those runs were not runs (2 reverses and 2 QB runs). Why don't the Jets ever ever run on third and short? On 3rd and short, why are the Jets are always in a shot gun? This is just horrible. Besides abandoning the run, it also takes away the threat of a run making it easy for the defense. This formation does not fit the Jets offense or the QB. The play calling on the final drive was pitiful. Once Turner caught the pass the put the Jets on the Bills 35, why not call a run and get the 3-4 yards needed for the tying FG before you take shots downfield? Burress bailed Schotty out with that catch. Throwing down field three times from that place on the field down three with 2 minutes left proves that Schotty has no clue. If Burress does not come down with that catch, Folk would be kicking a 53 yard field goal to tie the game. The Jets passing tree sucks. I have Directv and watch dozens of games every weekend. The Jets pass patters are predictable and hard to complete. Every long pass is down the sideline which adds a defender (the sideline). The offense is full of slants and outs. The middle of the field is ignored. Why? Other teams have 10-15 passes a game where the receivers are wide open. The Jets never seem to have more than 1 or 2. There is never any separation from the defender. DBs sit on the pass routes. The bottom line is that the offense sucks all around, from the play designs to the play calling. It is time for Schotty to go or nothing will improve.
Well said. I'm just not, nor have I ever been, impressed with the guy's offense on this team. I'm not saying that the players don't have some role in the O's mediocrity, but I think it's abundantly clear that Schotty's part of the problem and is the easiest one to hit the reset button on at the end of the season.
That about covers it. Just because this game ended in a W for the Jets in no way means that Schotty did a good job of designing the offensive game plan. They won despite him, not because of him.
After today he should be getting a lot of looks for HC jobs, right? Does he like college? Illinois, Wash St., Arizona & Arizona St. are hiring.
Lol, we can only hope. It makes me sad to think that he could have been coaching the Bills right now
His playcalling is typically awful. However, I look around the league and see a lot of questionable play calls every week by lots of teams. I think the bigger underlying issue, though, is just how poorly prepared this offense seems every single week. Why do they perform so inconsistently from drive to drive? Why do they seem to make so many mental mistakes every game? It's one thing to have an offense that just gets beat by the other team, but this offense just seems to beat itself more often than not. Sure, Sanchez has turned the ball over way too often for TDs, but there's just more to it than that. Every week we can safely assume that the offense will show up for a couple drives here and there will be plenty of drives where they just don't. I think that kind of poor preparation or poor coordination falls squarely on the shoulders of the offensive coordinator. That's inexcusable for a guy that's been here for as many years as he has. What is wrong with your system that the team just still doesn't seem to get it??
not at all... in fact, i think it was one of his worst games from a play call and adjustment standpoint.... - We were gashing them with the run, 7 or 8 yards per carry. so what do we do? we pass it 2 out of every 3 plays, when the pass wasnt even effective. - when we did pass, it was usually out of shotgun 4 and 5 wide out sets, with no threat of the run or possibility of play action. horrible showing by shotty. another thing... the play design on the sanchez pick was terrible. a play where only ONE player ran a route, and it was over the middle. sanchez is standing in his own endzone, in the pocket, and his only target is covered. i realize it was an awful throw, but what is his other option in that situation???
I actually said during the game that I thought this was Schotty's worst game of the year. I echo what other's have said. Not enough runs considering what was successful. And the usual bs...terrible routes, Santonio the only option on the pick, 3rd and short shotguns.
God... What fricking QB makes no mistakes?! It happens dude besides that one throw... How bout them 4 TD's you nancy boy!
and that possession saw 2 drops after nice Sanchez throws. It's all about the OL and the QB, the OL played well and in the 2nd half the QB played great. mark appears to have gotten his confidence back, we'll see a different O the rest of the year.
FCOL. ZHow about we don't come out in a FB/RB/2 WR set EVERY FIRST DOWN. Gee, opposing defensive coordinators, just run the base defense out when we come out.
Schotty's worst game of the year? On what planet? He got 4 tds out of a QB whose been awful, gimmie a break. It was a very good game outta him. Very good.
Thru 2012. They can eat 1 year of his salary. BFD. It would be shocking If they did not go in a different direction, unless they plan to leverage Tom Moore a little more in the off season.
Schefter says it was extended through 2013 which would mean he'd be safe for 2012 which would be great news for us.
It certainly helps when your Dad is pals with the Owner of the Team you're working on. Just like in real life, its not always what you know, but who you know..
