Yup, the Jets had problems all over the field today and we were very lucky to come away with a win. That said, Sanchez was the primary issue for much of the game. I'm glad that he pulled it together in the end, but he's gotta do much better than this going forward.
Your delusional if your first priority is that the QB has nice stats and plays a perfect game, rather than him winning the game. Like I all ready said in, I'd rather take a win than fancy stats everyday, regardless who the QB is.
He struggled in the 1st half, he was excellent in the 2nd half. only 2 drives did not result in TDs and one he threw 2 nice balls that were dropped by Plax and Turner.
Of course the victory and the crunch time drive is all that really matters, and the 4 TDs are nice, but he played pretty shitty for the most part. Alot of forced passes into coverage, or just plain inaacurate...... I like the kid's ability to dust it off and perform at the end, but much of their need for a 4th qtr rally was because of his performance up to that point to begin with..... (yes, Cromartie too, but that's a different discussion)
Sanchez had a poor game but was able to come up big when it mattered. Very reminiscent of the Detroit and Cleveland games last year. I think the more disturbing problem is his inability to read defenses at times. Some of those throws (the interception and the two near picks) were just plain horrible. Gotta know where the coverage is.
Yep. Imo, there are three ways to look at this game. One is to look only at the stat lines and the end result of a win, and not having actually seen the game, feel good about it. The second is to be some combination of a super homer and someone who doesn't understand football, and feel good about it. The third is to feel good about the win, but realize it was about the worst performance leading to a win in recent memory, and that Buffalo lost it more than the Jets won it. Sanchez was horrible for most of the game, and was bailed out in key spots by circus catches, not only to Burress but also two great catches for Keller, who really showed up yesterday, in the first half, anyway. Turner had a key third down catch, also. But in a game that was possibly the best performance by the OL all season, and in which Greene played well, and those receivers were making great catches, the Jets barely won. Sanchez would have had five interceptions against a good pass defense. Awful, and those touting the four TD's instead of recognizing that fall into one of the first two categories listed above. Sanchez was also inaccurate, and a couple of times hung his receivers out there, especially that one on Holmes. Special Teams. Another poor performance overall. Although missed FG's were not on the menu, nor was there a particular problem with coverage, but no run backs of any significance, the punter continues to be mediocre, and Cro's drop was awful. Westoff gets a pass from everyone including me, but he did not earn his salary yesterday. Other Coaches. I was happy for Ryan to get the win and not have to go through another game losing drive given up by the D, but his homeristic support for Sanchez in the post game was delusional. And where were the defensive adjustments, particularly in the pass D? They could not stop a team that has basically not had any offensive production in the last month. So much for the defensive wizard label. That's getting old. This is probably on Pettine as well. The D did not look like a well coached team. Schotty will get mostly positive marks from all but the biggest Sanchez homers. Speaking of not stopping the other team, the D, other than the DL rotation and Pace, the sacks for Maybin and Harris, and some solid hits by Leonhard, and one or two by Smith, the D looked awful. The usual best players out there, the corners, looked bad, although Cro did have that one pass swatted away in the end zone toward the end, and Smith's TD on him was more due to a brilliant play by Smith. But Wilson had some awful plays after he defense that one pass early on. Terrible game for him. Pool played like he was on drugs, and not good ones. Did you all see that play where he took Revis out of the coverage? And for those who want to see more of him, he is worse guarding TE's than anyone else on the roster. Scott and Harris were mostly invisible, and Revis looked like he was sick or something. I don't think he was awful, but he had an off day for sure. So they get the win, and that's great, and it's sure better than if they lost. But going forward, there are a huge amount of things to fix if they are really going anywhere.
Food for thought, Mark Sanchez had LESS picks (by 1, but it still counts) then DREW FUCKING BREES coming into yesterday's game.
I'd rather see the Jets as being an elite team with an opportunity to win a SB because they are truly an elite team. Fact is in a must game against a team with a pedestrian D on our home field we let them hang around all day and gave them a pretty decent shot at winning if it wasn't for a great catch by Plax and a dropped ball by Johnson. Lets face it we pulled out a win but we also let a bad team that allows a league average of 65% passing and 7.6 YPA hang around all day because our QB is hitting at less than 50% and just over 5 YPA when our running game is averaging near 6YPC. That's in our building in an absolute must game. Nice to win ugly but it would be nice to play well and put away a very mediocre team in our own building and not let them hang around and possibly pull one out of their ass like we pulled it out of our ass. The first priority is to win. To win the priority is for the QB and the entire team to play well from start to finish. We have hardly if ever seen that this year. I don't blame Sanchez for a mediocre Jets team being 6 and 5 and barely hanging on to a shot at the playoffs in a year we expected this team to legitimately compete for the division. I can't ignore the fact that he has been wildly innacurate and had long stretches in games where he has outright stunk.
seriously? You may also want to include approx. 50 less attempts, 800 less yards, 5 less TDs and that's with playing an extra game (Saints play tonight). Not to mention 14 less comp. % points and 20 less QB rating points (this stat is overrated) I'm no Sanchez hater, but let's keep things in perspective.
Means nothing. Sanchez, on paper, looks FAR BETTER then he's actually been. You look at his stats, and it indeed looks like he's taken the next step. On a pace to throw a career high 26 tds, while going way over 3,000 yards. Doesn't tell the story. He's inaccurate, he throws behind guys left and right, and he has numerous weapons that he doesn't take advantage of.
and last year he was much better than his #s indicated. He has also been plagued by numerous drops including a bunch yesterday.
I thought yesterday was a microcosm of Sanchez in general. Bad stats, head scratching decisions, a bad pick, but then he turns it on at the end and pulls the game out. Then you look back and say he's not very good but you have to like the end results. Amid the first two years going to the AFC Championship games and the bold predictions from Rex, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that he's 25 and although he's played a lot of football now, he's still not a finished product. He's a huge X-factor right now still, but you have to love his intangibles and the ability to rise and finish games, no matter how big. Those things can't be taught and he has them, not to mention handling New York, the spotlight and the expectations. The stuff he's awful at can still be improved upon with experience and work, which he's been willing to put in since he's been here.
Honestly the offense looked horrible yesterday. I was surprised that they managed as many points as they did.
Seemed like we had running lanes for Greene and McKnight all game, plus Santonio added some yards on the end arounds. The protection was good, Sanchez was just off target and making questionable decisions.
28 points is horrible? I'll take a horrible 28 every week, did we look bad at times? Sure but 28 pts is 28 pts . 4 TD passess including the GW TD drive w/ just over a minute to play and we are complaining?
Sanchez played fairly well. There were a lot of times when he was frustrating the hell out of me, particularly in the first half, but he threw the 4 TD passes and won us the game. Hard to argue with that. I wish we ran the ball more, but whatever. He made throws late that his receivers could make plays on, and they did for him. He had some bad throws, too, but when he needed to make big plays late, he did, and his receivers helped him out by making some tough grabs. But that's their jobs to do that. Hopefully, this can be a building block for more improvements. Washington has a pass rush, and their defense isn't bad, but we should absolutely beat them. KC has a few good DL, but their defense is mediocre, too. Gotta win those 2 games and keep getting better offensively for when we play Philadelphia and the Giants.
Food for thought, Mark is a suave handsome chicano who porks white woman like they 99cent tacos. we gonna act like that's not the real reason why he's hated by some?
