I agree with those out there that this was one was 4 TDs but a poor game with his passing for the most part. Every pass is troublesome
Having the offensive line not working well is a deal-breaker for any NFL QB not named Roethlisberger and Roethlisberger ha some issues then also, particularly if his defense is not playing well.
If anyone who can say that he is "elite" after today really needs to pass the pipe this way. Anyone with half a brain and actually watched the game would have to be nothing more than a blind homer to call this performance elite. They only look at the TD stat and just assume he had an awesome game. Clutch at the end? Most definitely but he is one of the main reasons why the score was even that close at the end. Props to Mark though for coming through and playing good on the last drive. That throw to Plax was pretty impressive.
i give him credit for stepping up late in the 4th quarter but he was below average the whole game despite the 4 touchdowns.
Who says the guy is elite? He isn't as bad as people make him out to be, plain and simple fact. People on this board say he is almost the worst QB in the NFL. He has made enough mistakes to go around, but after that is taken into consideration, he still has a successful record as the starting QB of and NFL team, winning some very impressive games. His mistakes are blown out of proportion because the mistakes he makes look outrageously childish, that people blow them out of the water (he throws straight to the defender in coverage, holds the ball too long which leads to fumbles). He has such small room for error because this defense isn't what is used to be, the o-line isn't what it needs to be, the rushing attack isn't where it should be, the play calling on offense is suspect at times, so any mistake he makes costs this team BIG. No one goes after any of the other factors of the team because it i easier to single Mark out.
I will agree that overall he did not play a great game but he did play great when it mattered most! I dont know if I would put someone who threw 4 TD's in a game in the horrible category.
I thought a thread like this would be coming. Give it another look though. The four TDs are impressive but he was ass today. And I'm not gonna nitpick but for two of his TD passes, his target couldn't have been anymore open (Keller naked bootleg, Plax TDs)
I believe to be fair you must compare Sanchez to the other QB's in the league who have similar experience & draft expectations....IMO.. Sanchez is coming along similar to other young QB's (who look good one week..then look horrible the next) NFL Ranking TD Int Rating 9) Matthew Stafford, QB 26 13 90.7 13) Matt Ryan, QB ATL 15 10 85.5 19) Mark Sanchez, QB NYJ 14 10 79.9 23) Joe Flacco, QB BAL 13 8 78.9 27) Josh Freeman, QB TB 11 15 75.0 29) Sam Bradford, QB STL 5 5 70.9
He had to force half of his throws into double and triple coverage and he had what, 8 drops? He only should've have had to throw the ball 25 times tops. Any QB would've looked like shit, be happy about the win and sit down.
Ben Roethlisberger just took a timeout on 4th down and the team ended up punting the ball where it landed on the 1 yard line and then into the endzone for a touchback. If he had taken the delay of game instead, the ball lands at the 6 (all other things assumed constant) and the gunners have a chance to down it. More importantly, Big Ben just pissed away an all-important 2nd half timeout for absolutely no reason in his 8th year. I genuinely wonder if the Pittsburgh media flips out the way the NY media does when the QB makes a boneheaded move?
Then Tebow's your man. Sanchez threw under 50%, under 200 yards on 35 attempts, 1 pick. The 4 TD's are nice, But to say he had a franchise game? not even. Jets were very fortunate to win this game, very fortunate.
2 superbowl rings afford you the leway to make boneheaded mistakes like taking an ill timed time out. The Media may wriet about it, but not with the doom and gloom of the sanchez gaffe.
Sanchez did "just" enough to just beat a bills team that got absolutely crushed the last 2 weeks and played without Fred Jackson today. So we escape with a win...yes escape...and you are praising the performance? Some people on this board are delusional. We were lucky toget this win today but a win is a win.....I just can't praise the QB play today.
Yes, it's really refreshing to read yet another moron think he's making some kind of poignant point by referencing a singular mistake by an All-Pro or multi Super Bowl winning QB in order to excuse the routinely poor play by Sanchez.
Ben has never struck me as someone with great football acumen. there's a baseline iq that you can't really teach, ben plays more on instinct than iq.
