He was pretty clearly safe for the rest of this season anyway. Today's game did more to bolster the notion he needs to be fired the day after the season than it did to help his cause.
How? Other than the possession where we threw on 3 straight downs after grounding and pounding, I think he called a very good game.
I'm hoping Rex and the FO can read between the lines. We were killing on the ground today, but only rushed 23 times, because Schotty was trying constantly to abandon the run. The three consecutive incompletions three-and-out comes to mind, and the horrible Sanchez INT play when he called a one man route passing play to be thrown from our endzone. That is not a play that should be ever called in that part of the field.
So you think it was smart to only give Greene 13 carries when he was averaging about 6 yards a carry? You liked that Shovel Pass? And that possession with the 3 straight deep passes and spreading the field was beyond atrocious. It was just about the stupidest thing he could have possibly done.
I think trying to abandon the run can be better described as Green very obviously in severe pain from his ribs. As much as I like McKnight we should all know ground and pound isn't gonna be very successful with him being the only back.
I believe that I mentioned the 3 deep passes in there as being the only bad call. And if the shovel pass worked nobody would complain that is essentially a run that you were clamoring for more of.
if greenes hurting, thats still no excuse for not letting Mcknight tote the rock. he was running well today as well. not saying he needed 30 carries, but averaging over 6 a pop, we need to run it more than 21 times total
How come Sanchez can move the team in a hurry-up but can't move it when normal play-calls are happening? I think what today showed us (again) is that Sanchez and Schotty just aren't a fit except in the 2 minute offense. You can argue whether that is more on Sanchez or more on Schotty but the Jets offense just blows chunks when they are in normal mode and normal mode is what the Jets play 95% of the time. I think the sooner the Jets match Sanchez up with another OC the sooner we will know whether he has what it takes to play at the highest levels in the NFL. I think it's pretty clear at this point that Schotty can't compete at that level.
His job was never in question. Only on message board sites... He has now two more years on his contract. He's going nowhere.
That I can agree with, even though I think it was pretty obvious that Green was the reason for the 6 yards a pop and McKnight was just along for the ride today. I didn't see the inactives for the game but I have to wonder why Powell was inactive, assuming he was. I have to think they limited Mcknight because of the lack of depth there.
I still don't understand how none of our recievers are ever open when they get 10 yards past the LOS. Is it poor play design/calling? Poor route running? Sanchez not looking off of his targets enough? Whatever it is, it's something that's been maddening for me the last few years and I've seen absolutely no progress towards fixing it. That's one of the many reasons why I just don't think Schotty quite cuts it, the guy just can't adjust to the personnel he's given. I'm sure there's an ideal set of players who can perfectly execute within his offense. Unfortunately, it's not this current group and he seems unwilling to architect the system around what he's given. It drives me absolutely insane. I certainly hope that this game didn't buy him any time beyond this season, as there was a helluva lot to not like from the O this game.
