Bad coaching. horrible. Finally up by 7 and you put the man with the least heart (and brains) back there to hand the game over. And then he shows my argument on the following play.
Rex just explained in his post game PC.... Jimmy got his wind knocked out on the cut tackle on the 3rd down play. so cro was closest to the sidelines, so they sent him back there. all cro has to do is catch the ball. at some point, it has to be on the players to pick up the slack of a guy who is out of action
Yeah, I don't blame the coaches for a player not being able to catch a punt. Unless it was Mangold or something.
I still don't understand why the coaching staff is to blame for this. All Cro has to do is CATCH THE BALL. That's all on him.
I was saying to myself right before that punk, Why the fuck is cro out there ? he's gonna muff this shit. It was a bad decision that almost lost us the game.
I dont blame Cro for the TD either. Play was a fluke. Almost a pick gets tipped in the air as Cro is going down and just floats to Smith.
cro has always had trouble catching punts. should they have just tossed him back their willy nilly with Jimmy being fine, I would have a serious issue with it. But knowing now that Jimmy (the guy who can catch a punt in a hurricane - Rex Ryan) was out of action for that snap, its on Cro to make that fucking catch
Thx for posting. Didn't realize Leonard was hurting & thought it was a ploy by the coaching staff to get a big return. Initially thought it was a bad call by coaching staff because sure hands > potential big return when you're winning.
absolutely agreed. Thats why I was furious when Cro muffed it. But finding the reason why after the fact is why i'm more ok with it. It was either send Cro back there, or not put a returner out there with Jimmy out of it for a minute. regardless of why he is out there, it still falls on Cro to catch the rock.
Rex explained Jimmy had the wind knocked out of him so Cro was put in. Not on the coaching staff in the end. Just bad luck. Its on Cro for not catching it.
Really bad decision. I was thinking right before the punt. Oh shit, why is cro out there ? Guys who are great at returning kicks aren't automatically good at returning punts It usually the opposite. Almost cost us the fucking game.
I really miss Jerrico Cotchery as the backup option on punt returns. Very little flash but he understood the reason he was out there.
Excuse me, but who the fuck are you? You never see Cromartie returning punts either. So who's the fucking genius who puts him back there in a close game? Use your head.
So unless I'm retarded and simply do not understand, but you and nyjetsrule agree with my post, correct?
Yep. The reason people blamed the coaching staff (including myself) at first, was because they thought Cro was just sent in randomly to spark a return or something, which made no sense for the team to do. So fumbling could be on the coaching staff for putting him in. Now seeing what really happened, its on no one but Cro.
I'd call a timeout at this point to let Leonhard get his breath back. Cromartie has to be the worst possible candidate to return punts given that he can't abide contact and apparently can't fair catch either.
