Washington plays the Jets every 4 years. Just because we're 1-8 all-time vs them means nothing. Same with Philly, who we're 0-8 against. We rarely play those teams.

Every good team we play is a "letdown" according to this. They will be tough games for sure, but why call it a let down.

No...if the Jets win out, Cincy needs to lose twice, maybe even once, and we're in, and the other teams all need to lose once. Even if the Jets lose once, most of the other contenders need to lose twice only, maybe even once. Cincinnati needs to start losing, that's for sure.

The Redskins don't scare me at all... but sadly Orakpo can probably shut down our passing game by himself.

So for this sunday we need:

A Jets win over Buffalo obviously

    Cleveland to beat Cincinatti

    TB to beat the Tennesse

and San Diego to beat Denver

That puts us and Cincy in a tie for the #6, at this point in the season.

    Am I overlooking anything?

The Redskins don't scare you at all though it is a team that beat the Giants and almost beat the Cowboys twice.

Their defense is bound to give us fits. Orakpo, Kerrigan, Fred Davis, all problems.

Just the illogicality of many a Jet fan here.

As a whole, the Redskins are a worse team than the Jets. But their talented passrusher(s) vs. the weakest unit of our team (OL) can dictate the course of the game.

    What's illogical about that?

Oh so you were just contradicting yourself by saying that they don't scare you at all. Nevermind.

Did you happen to notice that the Redskins just lost 6 games in a row, and 7 out of 8? There's a reason for that ... they suck. They can't score in a whorehouse with a fistfull of 50's. As bad as our offense can look, it doesn't even approach what they put on the field every week. They've scored 16 points per game ... and that includes the games early in the season when they actually had an OL and NFL caliber RB's. that 24 point "explosion" against Dallas was their highest total of the season since Week 1. No way on earth they score more than 13 points against us.

Their defense is good ... they can play. But they're not the 85 Bears.

I bet you were one of those guys who thought the Bills were going to give us all we could handle.
If we can avoid killing ourselves with stupid penalties and turnovers, we'll win that game EASILY.

The Redskins, as a whole, are a much worse team than the Jets.

But, one of their best players will be matched up against our worst starter. This changes things.

If you need me to hold your hand and explain other posts to you, just ask.

Well, we've finally gotten to the part of the season where people start irrationally talking about the Jets winning out to make the playoffs. This despite the fact that they are 3-5 in their last 8 games and 1-4 on the road this year. The 3 road games are all in places that will be tough for the team to win given their play so far this season. Oh, and they also have the Giants in a futility bowl matchup that will be possibly the toughest game left on the schedule given their weak pass protection and the Giants strong pass rush.

The wild card in all of this is that the Jets might get lucky and finish 8-8.

I agree ... thinking we'll win out is irrational.
We wont need to win out ... 5-1 will do it ... and even 4-2 would give us about a 50-50 chance as long as both losses are against the Giants and Eagles.

The Denver game was a terrible blow, BUT ... if the Defense plays exactly the way its been playing for the past 7 weeks against everyone not named Brady, we have an excellent shot at making the playoffs. Get me to 9-6 going into Miami, and I'll bet my life we make the playoffs.

this year's team is toast already. they are not going to the playoffs, sunshiners! the philly game and the giant game figure to be sure losses.

throw in another shotty/sixchez meltdown against either the bills or miami, and you have a .500 team.

the path to the playoffs is certainly open for this team...but as everyone already knows they have to SHOW US they can do it.

I do believe a full 60 minute effort, specifically on the offensive side of the ball can right the ship.

Please, enlighten us on how missing the playoffs is a foregone conclusion?

Are the other teams in the AFC battling for the wildcard that much better than the Jets?

The Titans and Broncos are locks to go 5-1 down the stretch?

The Bengals (whose strength of victory is 19 w/ 6 wins)? Pencil them in for 11 wins and call it a season?

Good post Lon. It's not over yet.

Despite the problems this team is facing, the wildcard hunt is still alive. Does the team need to improve? Absolutely, but we've proven before that the Jets can bounce back.

Before week 10 we were hoping for a division win. I don't mean to oversell our team or pretend like last week didn't happen, but I'm not counting us out after 2 bad games in a span of 4 days when we are one game out of the 6th seed. Especially when we practically gave those games away with avoidable mistakes.

How many more shanked punts, fumbled returns, etc can we expect to see going forward? These are workable problems.

The offense is a legitimate concern. But Sunday will be our first look at whether or not we can expect improvement in that area now that we've actually had a full week+ between games.

I want to see something better, but hope is not lost just yet IMO. Maybe it's positivity talking, but there it is.

Agreed, the Jets have a 4-5 record in the conference which hurts, however I think it may be possible to get in with 10-6, and we will probably lose to either the eagles or giants, I would much prefer to beat the Giants and have a good christmas by the way, but I see us ending the season 10-6.

I just think the correctable mistakes are more a reflection of our team than something that even itselves out in the long run.

I think jets will be 9-7 and out. I just hope I wrong and it will be fantastic to support them over the next 6 games as everyone of them will count (as long as we do not f up against bills on Sunday, anticlimax)

    It's Friday, hope springs eternal.
Last year the Pack had to win out, the last 6 a play-off game to get in.
