    Agreed.

Knowledge on here is lacking, so it needs to be the standard in which a poster is judged.

No, as it would grow into a complete circus. This would not be a football board anymore but rather a stage for personal e-battles. Entertaining? Most likely. More visitors? Maybe. Anything to do with football or Jets? Hardly.

When JetNation was formed by a bunch of rejects from JetsInsider, they thought they could have a no rules board where every asshole would be welcome and no one would ever be banned. A few months later they also realized that a message board just cannot be run that way.

Btw, this board is way more lenient than most others. There are boards where you would instantly get banned for questioning any decision of a mod/admin.

Not saying it should be a free-for-all, but a little drama can go a long way. Look at the Greenhornet saga or the whole Spivey thing. You tolerated it because it was entertaining, as well the fact that it kept a lot of people drawn to the site during the offseason. Hell, I'd do the same thing.

That sort of thing has become the norm on TGG.com, which is why the site has been as successful as it's been. Good posters, as well as the entertaining drama they bring, are a valuable commodity on message boards. You know this.

Petro baned E over the summer for "constantly calling people faggots, among other things" .... That short vacation did not change his attitude one bit. Drama is good to a point, but when your consatntly abusive of others it starts to cross the line. No one wants to be on a board where every disagreemen ends in fuck you, DIAF, faggot.

The mods would know better, but I don't remember petro banning too many other users lately. I think this was the last straw in a very long line of E wearing on him.

Which is part of why people have come here. The interesting thing is that the posters who are abrasive nearly all love to discuss football. This site would never abandon the football talk. Ever.

Honestly, it's not my place to dictate or even suggest board policy as far as bans are concerned, and I don't want the following to be construed as criticism. I understand the motivation behind the bans, but I'm still trying to get a handle on it. On the one hand, a poster can have a permaban lifted a day after he threatens to rape and kill another poster's wife and children, and no explanation or assurance is offered whatsoever. On the other hand, we have countless explanations for the permaban of a poster who attempted to use proper channels to make suggestions and then lost his cool in a forum offered as a place to lose one's cool when said suggestions weren't received well.

Like I said, it is the way it is. The posters this weekend knew they could be earning bans with their behavior. It's simply difficult at times to know how to navigate. This board IS more lenient, and that's a big part of why the football talk and the rest of the board have been so successful. It speaks highly of your design that the board has done so well in the past at sifting through and weeding out poor posts. It's just tough sometimes to know where leniency is merited. It's incredibly likely that I'm missing something, though, and for that I apologize.

    Could not agree more.
I must have missed out on the cause but no matter. There has been way too much ganging up on posters who are here to do what I'm sure this site was created for which is talk about our beloved Jets.
Nobody is expecting to be agreed with 100% but the right to voice your opinion and engage in mature debate should be a requirement.
I applaud this thread and the actions taken to keep the focus on the real issue which is not name calling and intimidation or bullshit grammer and punctuation correction.

This ^. It's not about catching feelings. I never had any personal conflict with the guy, and he obviously had a great knowledge of football, but "DIAF, faggot" is about as counterproductive to a discussion as you can get.

Good news though folks: talking about my old haircut is not a bannable offense. However, actually having the haircut might be.

It's funny how you have one group of people that think the football discussion on the site has deteriorated to the point where it's not even worth bothering with anymore, and then a whole other group that can't stand the idea of a few faggots being told to die in a fire on this holy mecca of football knowledge.

WTF have you been hiding ???????

And I would say that the two groups you think you are describing breaks down one way.

The 4 guys that think Schotty is a good OC, when they post.

(one group of people that think the football discussion on the site has deteriorated to the point where it's not even worth bothering with anymore)

The same group when the rest reply
(then a whole other group that can't stand the idea of a few faggots being told to die in a fire on this holy mecca of football knowledge)

    This

is much harder when people don't have a basic grasp of this

I'm surprised and a little disappointed that so many people apparently think "trade snachez 4 three 1sts n fire shittenheader n sign payton n rex is too fat lololololol" is preferable to Electric's informed if somewhat intolerant style of posting.

Damn 624 and Mr. E were solid.

I blame Schotty. It's all his fault.

Damn, are those perma-bans, or just 7 day jobs?

Electric ripped me once or twice when I first joined here.. but here's the point a lot of posters apparently fail to realize.. this is the internet. Everyone who posts is basically just a name, it isn't personal. If I post something dumb, it deserves to be criticized.

If someone says fuck you, or die in a fire.. guess what? It doesn't fucking matter. Stop being such a pussy and just talk about Jets football and make your point. Seriously.. who goes and tattles to a mod about a poster being mean to them.. poor baby, go call your mom and she'll make it all better for you. Most of us don't care..

NDMick and some others pointed it out above.. the best way to judge posters here is by their knowledge about the topics being discussed. Lately the board was flooded with idiots who just wanted to cry and complain about Mark Sanchez throwing an interception. Nobody wants to see 400 new threads from people with 14 posts saying "Mark Sanchez sucks get rid of him!!!!!!!!!" without putting reasons for it or any kind of post worth a legitimate discussion. The guys who were banned contributed a lot in a meaningful way. Their posts were worth reading.. it's not the same old shit that we see all too often.

My opinion on this means next to nothing, I know.. but I've been posting here a while now, and getting rid of posters like 624 and Mr. Electric makes this board worse, not better. I'm sure after the next Jets loss there will be 100 new members who want to vent and make their stupid points, then never post again.. but at least they won't be told to die in a fire over the internet, right?.. because that's clearly some heavy shit that nobody could ever get over.

For me, it's always been the humor that has kept me around. There are some really funny people here that add levity to the seriousness of football. I would easily take somebody with a relatively average football IQ, but is funny as hell, over somebody that takes this way too serious.

I've had my share of arrows shot at me because some folks aren't here for comedy relief, and that's OK. But at the same time this is my go-to source for Jet info, nothing even comes close.

this board has a very small amount of knowledgable posters who don't go off the deepend everytime something bad happens.

losing 3-4 of them is not good for anybody. well, except the trolls and retards who want to start brunnell everytime sanchez makes any sort of mistake. now they can run rampant without consequence

every single one of those people who got banned were good for the board and well liked by the respected posters here. the people who didn't like them are probably the ones who generally had something stupid to say and were told to DIAF.

oh, and whoever snitched to Petro about that thread should DIAF. like i said, it'd be one thing if he saw it for himself....it's another to go be a fuckin cry baby faggot and say something out of spite.

Basically the lesson is that you should show others more respect, even if you're the Junior Mel Kiper Jr. of the interwebs :breakdance:
