I like the effort and fire that Fitz has, and I like to root for guys who have had to work their way up. However, I think the Bills will regret the contract they gave this guy. He makes way too many bad decisions with the ball IMO, and you guys will be back looking for a starter next year while still paying off Fitz guaranteed money.
If he plays consistent the rest of this season and next season then the contract is earned and fair for both sides IMHO. The guarentee is only $24 million with an option after the 3rd year. So It would be better if he played like he did early in the season for the next 2 years. Then we could release him without taking a cap hit. I wouldn't say he doesn't make bad decesions with the ball, he just doesn't have the accuracy of an elite or even above average QB. He is a good QB for the system Gailey runs. Although he has thrown some pretty deep balls the past few games. Mute point though since we don't have a speedy deep threat that can jump up and make plays. My hope that is if we don't make the playoffs, we are atleast in position to grab one of the top 3 big WR'S. With someone with an upside across Stevie and Parrish coming back next year (hopefully) we could have a legit offense.
The Bills are definitely playing meaningful games longer than anyone expected, but they're clearly leveled off to about where they should be - a team that wins about every fourth or fifth game. They might have a couple more wins in them. But playing Miami this week has pluses and minuses. On the plus-side - it sets them up for another win. On the minus-side, the sooner they lose all hope, the sooner all those Buffalonians, or Buffalopes, or whatever can spend Sundays on their snowmobiles, which is really where they'd all rather be.
..... Guessing you were more than a bit let down today? I'll give you this, at least you still come around here from time to time unlike the majority of Bills fans in this thread.
I'm lovin the Bills' come down, fuck them. Next week is the Desperation Bowl.... the Jets have to run the ball and utilize play action. Fitzpatrick has been garbage for 3 straight.
That was one of the worst games I have seen a QB and WR'S play and I have been through the Losman/Edward years. On the opening drive, Fitz threw a point blank throw on 3rd n goal to a wide open Stevie Johnson about 4 feet to high. Could have went up 7-0 instead of 3-0 and then whop knows how the game plays out. I still think he's a middle of the pack QB but I dont want him playing here long term. If we lose next week in Jersey, then I may have to hop on the "suck so we get a higher draft pick" bandwagon. We need a Calvin Johnson and Patrick Willis with our first 2 picks next year.
Isn't it a little late for this now? His 4 good games fooled your front office into committing long term.
Technically he could be released next year without much of a cap hit. But odds are he will be the starter atleast through the 2012 season or until we are in position to draft a franchise QB. The "prize" free agent QB'S next year are Henne, Campbell, Grossman. I'd rather have Fitz.
I'd agree with you with that selection. Fitzpatrick showed a lot during the latter half of last season and the beginning part of this season. I expected him to come down to Earth, but not crash the way he did. Hang in there, this is what Sanchez does to us.
I think we'll start seeing Buffalo home games teeter on the brink of blackout now. A shame for the league, but it was bound to happen sooner or later.
Eh, if thats the case I'm stuck watching the Steelers. I'd rather the Bills sell out so I can watching the lose.
