I said 2010 but it was probably somewhere along the line in 2009.

Time to bring in someone new. At least we'll get a better idea of what we have in Sanchez with a different system.

Also, the play in the OP is fucking ridiculous. He should be fired for shit like that alone.

Could somebody do a screenshot of the poll results and make 100 copies, break into Woody's mansion and post them all over his house, please?

2% approval rating, with none of the votes coming from Jets fans. Amazing.

That this poll follows the Denver game, where Sanchez sucked, the RT should have been cut at half time, where special teams had their worst game of the season, and the D let Tim F'ing Tebow run a 95 yard drive on them shows how much wishful thinking goes into the Schotty haters camp. Fire him yesterday for all I care. This team will still have a great deal of problems.

I'm sure there is a small percentage of people who reacted to this based solely on the disappointment of the Denver loss, but there is no denying that the VAST majority of people on this board have wanted him gone well before this past Thursday. There is also no denying the idiocy of the play design in the OP's example, and if you were to search there are many, many more examples like it.

THe point is that to be focusing solely on Schotty right now implies that his departure is what it will take to turn the Jets around. It will not.

Obviously we have the greatest players in the world who never make a mistake so clearly it is all on the playcalling and design of the offense, the same O that helped us reach 2 title games.

I agree that he isn't the sole factor, but he's easily the biggest factor at this point. We obviously need upgrades at certain positions but if we continue to run this same inane offensive scheme it won't matter what players you plug in. If you don't think that replacing Schotty is extremely necessary to improving this team at this point, I don't know what to say to that. What is it about his scheme that you think is so effective?

In order the following things need to happen for the Jets to succeed on offense:

    1. Acquire a decent to good offensive line.

    2. Acquire a deep threat to make defenses back off and open up the underneath routes.

    3. Acquire an offensive coordinator whose system is good enough that it doesn't repeatedly get scapegoated when it fails.

    4. Evaluate our franchise QB under the conditions above for a season and see if he has what it takes to make it in the NFL.

Now what's more likely to happen is:

    1. Let Schotty go at the end of the season after the offense is primarily responsible for our 4-2/3-3 finish and failure to make the playoffs.

    2. Draft a cornerback in the first round because we only have 3 good ones.

    3. Trade up for the best available outside linebacker at the beginning of round 3.

    3. Watch Mark Sanchez take shots for the next season on the way to 9-7 again.

    4. Let Sanchez go and the McElroy era begins, which is like a flashback to the Chad era only much worse.

I think most Schotty haters refuse to consider let alone acknowledge that the basic aspect of the offense is what Ryan wants. He wants primarily a rushing oriented attack where the pass loosens up the opponent's D, but where the calls in the passing attack minimize the prospects for turnovers. He is also not averse to mixing some "creative" or trick plays on occasion to put the opponent off balance.

Ryan likes to think he has the players who will be able to give effect to this approach on offense. I question that. But I have no doubt that Ryan is capable of telling Schotty if he doesn't like the basic scheme of the offense. And if he does like it, your issue is with Ryan. And if he doesn't like it and has not said so, then your issue again is with Ryan. And if he has said so and in his third year as Schotty's boss is still unhappy with Schotty, then your issue is still with Ryan.

Do you really think that Rex wanted to go 2 downs without the threat of the run at the Patriots 6 yd line, because that is what schotty did against NE an ended up with a FG? If he did, then it is all on Rex.

No one said Schotty is the only problem. The "real issue" bit is more of a dig at the Sanchez poll than anything. Not every thread has to discuss every problem.

Even you refuse to acknowledge what I've been crying out loud for a year now?

Maybe Rex is slightly more knowledgeable than a doorknob when it comes to designing an offense. That does NOT mean you should center your offensive philosophy around ground attack AND short passing game. On top of that, the play in the gif is not even regular ground-and-pound formation. It's played from shotgun with 4 wide. If Rex has been saying what he wanted like he meant it, I have to question why Jets are not calling more run plays and play action pass off the run game. You know, like the game against the Donkeys past Thursday - Jets moved up at will, but then at the goal-to-go situation all of a sudden it was all Air Sanchez special. So you then are telling me THAT is Rex's doing too. Am I right on that one?

And one more disturbing trend I am observing these days is that, the 3rd and goal shotgun bullshit is back - you know, the kind of plague that's festered the Jets during Mangini era. Sanchez threw a pick out of shotgun in a goal-to-go situation against the Bills. He did that shit (shotgun in a goal to go situation) again during the Pats game - and now the Donkeys game too. Tell me THAT is also on Rex too. I have to doubt that.
