I am so shocked that even with our backs to the wall Rex will not show some real leadership and do the right thing by replacing Shittenheimer this weekend.

You do this for a bunch of reasons,
    1) Shotty is horrible at play calling and Sanchez has regressed substantially this year.
    2) It sends a message to the entire team and coaching staff
    3) If you are going have a chance to run the table we need to do something dramatic that will add life to the offense.
    4) You get to find out if Callahan is the guy or not

In addition it is time to find out about guys like Cook and Bellfore and Josh Baker by giving them a shot. They would be going in there and replacing guys that have performed at an inferior level.

There is no reason at all to wait till the end of the season to replace Shittenheimer. Any educated fan knows he has held this team back the last three years.

The sad part is that we all know that Rex will not do it because he puts more value in "his guys" then doing what is needed. This could be the season we do not pull off the miricle to make it back into the playoffs and in a year when the AFC is totally up for grabs and there is no Indy with Manning that we have to get through it will hurt even more not to have a shot.

Schottenheimer is untouchable by Rex. He can't replace him.

Schottenheimer is Tannenbaum's turd to flush.

Part of me believes there is some sort of conspiratorial reason that he is still on the staff. Perhaps he knows the truth about tripgate, and if it ends bitterly with the Jets organization he will blab to the media about what happened and who knew about it, and that Sal Alosi was simpy our Lee Harvey.

I have also heard Woody and Marty are friends; so it would not look good if Woody ends up de facto firing a friends son. It's ridiculous, but cronyism like this if it is true is going to bring this regime down.

Since the only logical thing to do would be to replace Schotty with Callanhan, there would no reason to make a media frenzy by making it a public move. It's very possible that Schotty has already taken a back seat.

Also, if Rex really does not have the balls or authority to fire Schotty, he should simply promote him. Seriously, promote Schotty to Assisstant Head Coach and let Callahan run the offense.

Callahan can't even get the right side of the line to block consistently, much less run the offense. If Callahan's line could pass block Sanchez would be much more effective along with the rest of the offense. Hell if Callahan's line could pass block this team would probably be 7-3.

If you get rid of Schotty during this season, you are folding up the season as a whole.

    Why do you say that?

You get rid of garbage and replace him with Callahan who many people believe would be better than your garbage OC...

How are you "folding on the season as a whole"?

You are upgrading a position...It happens all the time to players mid season...Why can't it happen with a coach?

Callahan would be a fine in-season replacement, but he's let the O-Line slack so much this season, whose to say he is going to be all that much better as OC.

Why do people think Rex has so much power. He doesn't sign players, hire coaches, or have the authority to fire anyone. All of that is Mike T. Rex just does the best he can with the tools that were given to him.

Other than the QB position, it's a lot easier to replace a player than a coach. Especially the one who coordinates the half of the team that the head coach isn't heavily involved in.

You can't change O-coordinators mid season, it is a bad decision. The team isn't going to learn a new offense inseason. He could take over play calling, but that's about it.

rex absolutel has a say in who the coaches under him are going to be.

Rex has always left the offense alone as much as possible. He doesnt feel confident in his abilities to coach that side of the ball up, so he leaves it alone as much as possible. He wont make a midseason change because he isnt sure what would happen if he did, and isnt confident he can fix it if it goes wrong. since its worked for 2 years in a row, he figures leave it alone and let it works itself out, or if it fails to get fixed, make an offseason change.

    Great line.

Why replace him? Just tell him to stay home. How much worse can the offense be?

Now that the defense and special teams are playing down to the offense's level, things are starting to gel...

Even if they fire Schottenheimer this week, the offense will stay the same.

His wife's feet may keep him from showing his balls.

Anyway, firing a OC at this point is stupid. Wait till the next day after the season in over.

Rex Ryan has been a very aggressive Defensive Coordinator. Other than retaining the aggressiveness on defense, he is a very conservative head coach.
