I actually don't like Sanu as a fit for the Jets. I see him as a physical YAC/reception monster, where I believe the Jets need someone who offer more of a depth threat capability...
Dump Plax, pick up another top notch TE and grab a younger FASTER WR either in the draft or via FA. Safety should be a top priority in the draft.
I'd love to have Sanu, but only if he's still around in the later rounds. Depending on how the rest of this season goes, we have other spots in the lineup that need to be "fixed" first. But if possible, and done smartly, I'd take Sanu in a heartbeat.
Sanu is a nice player. I haven't looked at the draft yet. The Jets have other needs though. I'd be fine bringing Plaxico back. I think we could squeeze 2 more years out of him, though I'm less confident about the 2nd. The Jets need to draft for value. I'd be fine trading down. I'm usually fine with trading down. We need depth across the board. WR is one of our needs, and if the right guy were there, I'm fine taking one. I rank our needs for that as 1. OLB 2. OT 3. S 4. TE/WR 5. OG 6. QB 7. RB 8. MLB 9. DE
I actually like the idea of drafting a receiver in the first 3 rounds. Look at what the Giants did with Manning, they continually drafted receivers early like Nicks, Smith, Manningham, Moss (failure), Barden, Jernigan to give Eli more weapons.
i think the only first rounder in there was nicks. with WR u can land some of the best in the lower parts of round 1 and rounds 2 and 3.
I think the Jets desperately need to keep the same receivers for more than a year. If were drafting one, though, gimme Justin Blackmon .
I am definitely on board with Blackmon, there is something about him that leads me to believe he is going to be a special player in this league. Also he has great size and seems to me that his skillset would allow him to make a smooth transition into the NFL.... Also he always flips the ball back to the ref's after a catch or TD, no asinine bullshit celebration spikes or that kinda nonsense, we need a reciever who comes to WORK, not to play. (coles, COTCH, type)
Even if the Jets were to lose all of their remaining games, Blackmon would probably be gone when they picked.
How do you guys feel about Marvin McNutt? Should be around in the 3rd when we may be ready to select a WR.
I think the Jets select BPA between safeties, WRs, and LBs. All 3 have been obvious weaknesses and easy to exploit. A big time coverage safety could help make up for the fact we don't rush the passer to well and a pass rusher will help keep our safeties from being exposed so often. Plax could be useful for another few years but that doesn't mean we shouldn't look to get a young wr.
I think they address WR in free agency. With or without Plax this team has a need at WR. Alot of intriguing names will be available including Hoftra alum Marques Colston,Vincent Jackson,Desean Jackson,Wes Welker and yes even Mr. Stevie Johnson. Team needs to spend draft picks in adding youth/athleticism to the LB and safety spots, steady depth on the OL and a # 2 tight end who can block
While I agree with you, and honestly wouldn't mid taking Plax back, the only one I would consider out of your free agent list is Colston or Welker. But I'd rather Braylon.
Vincent Jackson would be awesome. A big tall WR who can get the jump balls and a deep threat with his speed. Stevie Johnson may be horrible in the clutch lol but he'd be a solid option, his route running is among the best I've seen and one of the very very few that has owned Revis. Bowe would be another nice option but he's more a possession WR correct me if I'm wrong? Colston is injury prone imo. Stay away Welker ain't going anywhere unless he asks too much and he wouldn't come to the Jets and he isn't what we are looking for anyways. Desean Jackson is too similar to Holmes. Edwards isn't coming back here. For one reason or another that we will never know most likely.
damn that sucks. Bringing in better talent at safety is what I wanted most. Obviously a pass rusher would also be great but I doubt there's gonna be a pass rushing stud when the Jets are on the board. Offensively, I'm hoping for TE that is a good blocker or a lineman.
