Everybody is so quick to say Schotty sucks and I'm not going to disagree with that but people want to fire Schott and promote Callahan? Why? Because of something he did 9 years ago with Tim Brown and Jerry Rice catching passes from Rich Gannon? Because his offense once ran the ball 19 straight times against us? I'm sorry but this guy deserves as much blame as Schott. The offense is clearly the weakest unit on the team and the OL is clearly the weakest link of the offense. Don't give me the well Wayne Hunter sucks, that might be true but a good OL coach figures out a way to make the weakest link on the line passable. The entire OL doesn't completely suck because of Hunter. They create no running lanes, they don't give Sanchez any time to throw and worst of all they look completely lost at times. I know there is a lot of Callahan love on this board but if there is one coach on the team who has certainly not lived up to his hype it's this guy. I'm not saying he needs to go but can we please stop and realize that his unit is the worst on the team. This guy has not earned the right to be the OC of this team with the performance of his unit this year.
if Wayne Hunter is an exhibit of Callahan's body of work with the oline, he should be shown the door too.
because when callahan had talent on the line, the line was dominant shotty has been dicey from day one
Wayne Hunter is garbage There's nothing Callahan can do about that When we had a good players our OLine was dominant With good players on offense for 5 years our offense is pure shit In simple: Nothing can be worse than Schotty
our line has been one of the best for the past two years. unlike schotty,he's a guy who had great success in his role. What do you really expect out of your o line coach given the situation? He has no options to replace Hunter with and hunter just flat out sucks. He can't turn a turd into a diamond. How do you "mask" that? Guess what..he doesn't call the plays. The plays should be designed to account for Hunter's crappy plays by roll outs or running to the opposite side etc. People want to fire schotty and put him in because Callahan can't possibly be any worse.
Exactly. Mark got killed, yet again, by the right side. DBrick got beat last week cause his play was off but he played much better tonight. The right side of the line is terrible.
He shouldn't get a pass. Hunter sucks and this is the worst I've seen Brick play since his second season when we lost Kendall.
im so tired of watching wayne hunter take dumb penalties and just fuckin smile about it. it makes me sick
The more important questions is, what sort of consulting is Tom Moore giving the Quarterback? The guy has regressed and sucked. Get this old geezer out of here
Hunter got thrown to the floor on that play in the 4th quarter. Can it really be Callahan's fault that a player physically got destroyed on a play? I'm not saying Callahan should get a pass by any stretch, but Wayne Hunter is just a shitty player. I thought he was improving, but clearly he isn't. He's dog shit out there. Ducasse is one I think Callahan should take a bigger hit for. Vlad seems like he has all the tools, just can't figure out what to do, and that's on the coaching.
I think the past few weeks have caused a lot of folk to cool it with the Callahan as OC talk, because his unit has indeed been shitting the bed. In his defense, perhaps the late start to the season really affected his ability to get the new pieces of the line in sync. And maybe he didn't have the time to properly evaluate the talent he had vs. whatever else was out there. I can't imagine with a full offseason he wouldn't have noticed that Hunter isn't anything better than a good backup. This is the worst the OL has been since he's coached it, I think, so he should get some sort of pass. But you're right, he shouldn't be considered for our next OC. An OC needs to be imaginative enough to make the players he has effective. Schotty hasn't been able to do that, and this season Callahan's having issues as well.
Any OL should be dominant when they have 3 1st round picks and 4 guys who played in the PB? Moore has always been a solid player. We also had 2 former Pro-Bowlers on that line that are no longer with the team that we've lost each year. We've got a 2nd round draft pick that sucks even worse then Hunter so obviously this magic that Callahan found by coaching up 3 1st round draft picks the last 2 seasons is gone.
This. I hate that dumb fucks smile after he commits a penalty or gives up a sack. Ducasse sucks too, but at least you see him get pissed when he does something wrong.
His unit was the only part of the team that scored a touchdown tonight, so he obviously did something right.
Regardless, Hunter and Mulligan are terrible players, and there's nobody on the roster to replace them Nobody... I don't know why you quoted me?
I'll give you that and a lot this also falls on Tanny another guy we seem to hold in high regard. We allowed our best blocking TE to walk away and that guy is clearly a gaping hole right now. He made the decision to waste a pick on Ducasse and he's the one who allowed Edwards to walk while we were chasing after the "Dream Team" .
