I expect Greene to have a big game tonight. He's been playing well lately and now without Tomlinson; Greene role tonight is even much more important. Plus, playing in the thin atmosphere being able to run the ball will allow our defense to stay rested.
i am not sure why he is getting a bum rap around here (not from u murrell). he is a good runner and compliments the offense well. we have to remember he is running behind the same line that sanchez is passing. he has had some nice runs this year. if our passing game was a bit more prolific and threatening i am sure he would be putting up some juicy numbers - even with the current OL.
Greene's getting a bum rap around here because he's a one trick pony. He can't catch or block for shit. Schottenheimer hardly calls runs to the outside, so I can't knock him for not running outside of the tackles. He rarely breaks off big runs anymore. Two runs over 20 yards is unacceptable. A third decently long run was negated by a Matthew fucking Mulligan holding penalty. I don't see any kind of vision out of this player. He runs straight ahead and doesn't make defenders miss. McKnight has vision - give him the ball more tonight. At least he's protecting the football this season. He's done a great job improving his ball security.
No, he really isn't. He's a downhill runner that gets some tough yardage on plenty of carries, but he's not a short yardage back. There's a reason why LT comes in during goalline plays. Greene doesn't have the ability to find holes if his original option is closed. He's a power runner with limited vision and upside. That's why he fell to the third round. I've been saying it for a long damn time. The kid's certainly capable, but in a run heavy offense, we need something more. He needs to step the fuck up or be replaced.
I really like Greene, but I just don't think he's the every-down back they were hoping he would be. He's far better in the role he previously had, where someone else starts and softens up the D a little then he comes in to pound them. His receiving has improved, but is still not good. He's not a good blocker which is why LT is always in for passing downs, but he can definitely be part of a good 1-2 punch like he has been. Before we write him off though, I would say he needs a chance to work with a good OC who designs and calls plays to fit the strengths of the players he has, much like Sanchez. He'll still have his moments, big games, be stretches of games, but he's not a top level runner who can make things happen on his own for the most part. Tonight he should DEFINITELY get 20+ carries though and carry the offense. Gotta play it safe tonight, keep the D rested, make no mistakes and do just enough on O while letting the D shut down Tebow.
People are always so adamant that Greene breaks all of these tackles. Again, he only has two runs of 20+ yards. For a back his size, he goes down a lot on first contact.
Greene is a complimentary back that should be used when defenses are worn down. That's where his value is. He's not a top back.
In short yardage or goalline situations, there really aren't a whole lot of arm tackles going on. Short yardage is more about finding the only small opening you have and hitting it hard. He runs hard and can move piles, but when the lanes are all clogged with huge bodies, that doesn't matter as much as having good vision and finding a hole to run through.
Probably because he gets hit at the line of scrimmage a lot since besides a few games this year, he hasn't had a lot of running lanes.
I would argue this OL is a fucking sham compared to the last 3 years. theres almost no next level blocks being made. also alot of our run plays are telegraphed on formation alone. I've said it before if, I, as a fan, and average observer can predict run/pass over 70 percent of the time then what do you think defenses on the field see? I'm a huge fan of Greene to be honest. I just think hes not the kind of power runner that overcomes average blocking. which is the mark of an elite power runner. so is he as good as everyone thought hed be? probably not. but if the line blocked remotely as good as it has the past 3 years I dont think anyone would be doubting him. combined with how terribly inconsistent our passing game is, its much easier to cue in on Greene as a defender. were missing Braylon Edwards and I dont care what anyone says. Edwards/Holmes were a vertical threat on both sides of the field. Plax only success seems to be in the middle of the field. keeping the d on its toes with two vertical threats was a key to our running. his lack of hands is bothersome though, then again Sanchez isnt too great at touch passes. the few times he puts it on the money they get dropped. otherwise Sanchez is throwing Favre out route velocity on short patterns or totally leading his reciever the wrong way.
Or don't require a need to argue over the internet with someone whose view points supersede everyone else's.
seriously... i forgot we're in a competition to see who can win in an argument... no need to be condescending to someone just trying to express their opinion... the truth is we dont know how good greene is or could be. what we do know is that the o-line is not the same o-line of years past. and i also dont think it would hurt to try a new offensive coordinator and see what greene can do, same with sanchez... im still a full supporter of these players. when i see greene i either see him getting stuffed behind the line or him running behind his pads, through arm tackles and gaining yardage when he has a lane...
I think we need a RB that can get 100 years a game with no blocking along with a 400/yard/game QB that doesn't need blocking either. /Offensive problems solved
