Talking about TGG.com I feel like there is less negativity then there would be in the past years on this site. Don't get me wrong, I've definitely seen it, but less. Have the last 2 seasons changed our minds? I have not seen anything where anybody said the Jets are done this year, when in past years it would have came around. Good stuff fellow board members, I like the future for the fans.
the fact the jets have made the playoffs and been so close is the reason. we actually contend as oppose to just being there. and we have expectations now. hence the negativity.
I think a lot of us cushioned the blow of one of the crappiest regular season losses in a while by getting annihilated in the parking lot. It helped a little, for sure. Gotta get back on the horse, that's all we can do.
a little bit but this place still turns upside down everytime we lose. especially during bad losses. I think the one thing that's been dispelled is the "SOJs" and not being able to come back or lose games in the worst way. There's still the doom and gloom but it's not the same doom and gloom in terms of we think we're gonna blow games when we have the lead or we have no shot of over coming back etc. or fall apart (i.e. 08) type of collapses. I guess you can say there's a less amount of paranoia I've been here for 2 and a half years or so, and lurked for probably another year or so before that. I've seen the same cycle everytime this team gets in a funk pretty much. sky is falling, the team sucks, we dont make the playoffs, etc etc. So overall I don;'t think much has changed. As i stated in a couple of threads this week, after the atlanta game (and during the 2nd three game losing streak) in 09 and the Pats/dolphins game last year was about the same as it was after the ravens loss this year and the pats loss this week.
Im still waiting for the game to start. For us, the short week is good, but unfortunately for the team I dont think it helps things.
That's because the Jets are still in a fine position to make the playoffs. The season isn't doomed even if the Jets don't look great right now because despite their deficiencies they still look like they should be able to beat everyone they have left. I'd be surprised if they didn't win 11 games.
you know after a few years of playing well for the most part and learning that there will be ups and downs... more ups than downs. people are a little more relaxed when the team loses a game. now if they lose to denver this week it will be watch the gw cause people are going to be jumping off it.
Cause we the real deal now. Papa Rex has taught us how to be proud and win like ganstas. Fuck the haters and fuck the doubters.
every time we have lost I have heard people say the season is over. No need to panic, if we win our next 4 games we are in the exact same posiition we were last season, 9-4 going into the final 3 games. Feels alot worse now though since we were 9-2. The next 4 games are games we should win though so, I expect to be 9-4, and hopefully split with NYG and PHI, as bad as philly is, that game just worries me for some reason, I can totally see our offense making their overrated D look like what they thought they would be before the season. And I expect to win in miami as well, so I see 10 wins at least if we just take care of business.
Because Rex made this team relevant again I think is one very good reason. The other is the quality of the team on the field which has been the highest since the Parcells years. Lastly, we all know this team has major warts that needs to be addressed but moreso than in previous years, posters are willing to watch how things play out before opening fire on everybody and everything associated with the team. 2 AFCCG appearances buys alot of patience but I hope fans don't cling to that as if its ok NOT to make it to the SB.
I could not even express my emotions that loss hit me so hard. Depressed would be an understatement. That was as Same Old Jets as it gets. So there is some negativity for you. Now lets beat the Broncos and get a god damn snack.
there is stil insane frustration on the board after any loss. But now it all just goes to Sanchez. lol seems like half the people on here want him gone. a convincing win over the Broncos will calm everyone a little
I got killed here last year. Thanks for being cool this year. I love a sophisticated board that can handle opposing fans takes. It was kind of primitive last year, felt like I was in a cave, this year I feel as if I am on hallowed NFL grounds with the rich takes possessed by most of the threads here. Kudos gentlemen~!!
no, I am just talking about a different situation. we are certainly in a good position to make the playoffs, that is reason enough to be optimistic and excited still. but it wasn't what we were all hoping for to start the season. the loss to New England put us in a position that historically reveals a team simply not good enough to win the Super Bowl. that is what is disappointing, and my arguments the other day were against the ridiculous notion that the slate is wiped clean once you make the playoffs and all teams have an equal chance to win, which would mean all teams in the playoffs must be equal. that just is isn't true, and historical evidence proves that. As I stated, in 30 years only 6 teams have won less than 12 games and won the Super Bowl. being able to win 12 games is practically a prerequisite to be good enough to win a Super Bowl. and even 4 of the 6 teams that won less than 12 games were teams clearly capable of winning 12 games even if they did not that season: 1988 49'ers won only 10 games, but it was their 3rd Super Bowl in 6 years, and they proceeded to win 14 games each the next two seasons and repeat as Super Bowl Champions. so, when you look at their body of work, not winning 12 games was the exception and not indicative of their ability to do so. 1987 Washington Redskins only won 11 (in a strike shortened 15 game season), but it was their 2nd Super Bowl in 5 years and they would win another four years later. clearly they were capable. 2005 Steelers won 11, but they actually won 15 games the year before and would win another Super Bowl two years later. so, even though they fell short that season in regular season victories they were clearly a team capable of winning 12 or more. 2001 Patriots won only 11, but would win 2 of the next three Super Bowls in which they went 14-2 each season. clearly they were a team ascending to that level that season, and their success that year was indicative of more to come. even the Packers are showing that only winning 10 games last year was probably due to injuries and not the team's capabilities, as they are likely to win 14 games this year. that is clearly a team capable of winning 12 games. so, of the past 30 Super Bowl champions, only one team has won without being a repeat Super Bowl or 12 game winner at the least in the same relative period of time. One team out of 30 has accomplished that feat, so clearly simply making the playoffs regardless of the amount of regular season wins doesn't mean you have a realistic shot at winning the Super Bowl. all things are not equal come the playoffs. that was always my point. most teams simply don't have a realistic chance to win based on their regular season performance and victory total. so that leads us to this Jets season. The Jets in three seasons haven't shown they are able to win at least 12 games, so history shows that they are unlikely to be the quality of team capable of winning the Super Bowl. doesn't mean we shouldn't stop watching or hoping it happens, but that is reality. that is why the game against the Patriots was so important -- it was that next step from 10 or 11 game winning team capable of winning the wild card, to probable 12 game division winner, which is the realistic starting point for any team to have a realistic shot at winning the Super Bowl. and they failed miserably. they aren't any better than last year, and that team wasn't a Super Bowl winning team either. sure, we could win the next 7 games and finish 12-4. that is possible. but has this team shown an ability to win 7 games in a row? no. so more likely they will lose one somewhere, even if it is an upset, and finish 11-5. and 11-5 teams don't win the Super Bowl without having shown an ability to win more than that in past seasons within a relative time period. Only the Patriots did, but they would proceed to win 12 plus games every year after except 2 seasons, plus happened to have the best QB of the generation.
