I think Vladimir Ducasse is going to be released after this season. He's proven nothing and at this point, he's a waste of a roster spot.
I think something that also played a role in Mo Wilk falling so far was the fact that there was just so much D-line depth in last year's draft. He was the 8th or 9th Dline selected in the first round, that is nuts. There is not nearly as much OLB talent this year and Upshaw might just end up being the #1 OLB come draft time (assuming Coples gets drafted as a DE).
Thanks, man. You can really see the run-first QB in McNutt when he gets the ball in his hands. ...great vision. Since USC isn't playing for anything this year, a lot of people aren't paying attention to the Trojans. Perry's a high motor player that we need.
Agreed an their really missing out because USC is a ton of fun to watch. Robert Woods, the freshman Marqise Lee, and McNeal are all electric. Marqise Lee and Robert Woods are gonna be studs at the pro level.
From what I understand, this draft is pretty deep at WR and OLB/DE.. getting a player like Perry in the first round would be huge for us. Imo, an edge rusher and safety are the 2 biggest needs on the team and this safety class is weak so hopefully that can be fixed in free agency. Upshaw would be amazing, maybe Trader Mike will come out to play and make a big splash, but we definitely need to get someone in here who can help with the pass rush. Like was mentioned above somewhere, I like the idea of getting a guy from a big college like Bama or USC who can contribute right away and not have a big learning curve like a few recent picks of ours. I like the breakdown of positions you have targeted for the Jets.. I wish they thought more along these lines. Unfortunately, I think we're more likely to see us take another RB in the mid rounds (for the 4th year in a row) and another project player that we won't see contribute for 2 years if we dont trade up in the early rounds.
Probably. Marvin McNutt would be Plaxico Burress' eventual replacement. And a healthy Ryan Broyles is a better slot option than Jeremy Kerley.
In a perfect world, Kerley handling PR and KR duties while McKnight slides into duty as the 3DB next season. That'd make those 09/10 draft values boost a lot. Question is are either of them capable.
Seems this WR class is pretty deep. Blackmon, Jeffery, Floyd, D. Jones, Cringer, Sanu, Broyles, McNutt, T.Y. Hilton Mr. E or WW85 could this be the best WR class in a while?
T.Y. Hilton* (fixed for Jam.) This is the deepest wideout class in quite some time. Teams should be able to find starting-caliber wideouts in the third and fourth rounds. The receivers in 2012's draft aren't as talented as AJ Green and Julio Jones, but the top prospects are all pretty damn good. It's a great year for receiver-needy teams.
Yeah I was actually thinking that even though they aren't as talented as AJ Green or even Julio Jones from last draft they're pretty damn good in their own right. Wouldn't mind getting McNutt (who's underrated) and Broyles to swore up the WR issue. I would look into getting a potential TE who can be a decent player (and can block) like when the Pats got Hernandez in the 4th round in 2010.
Tight end and safety are the two weakest position groups in this year's draft. Mike Egnew, Coby Fleener, and Dwayne Allen are the top tight ends. All three are very similar to Keller...not necessarily in height/weight, but in style of play: marginal blockers that are solid receivers. All three would be upgrades over Matthew Mulligan and Jeff Cumberland, but they will be selected in the first few rounds because of the weak class.
Free Agency defs look like the best option for those. Michael Griffin and Joel Dressen (sp?) would be great. An actual FS and a blocking TE who can catch a bit. A big splash like a Mario Williams (who would instantly solve our pass rush woes) is unrealistic.
Best depth I've ever seen!! Don't forget Jeff Fuller, Nick Toon, Jarrett Boykin, BJ Cunningham, Jermaine Kearse, Chris Owusu, Rishard Matthews, Marquis Maze.......on and on.
Speaking of Egnew, I wish the Jets would run more TE screens. Seems like Mizzou TEs have thrived off those for years, and Keller is definitely just as, if not more, athletic than any of them...
With the depth in this class, I really think we shouldnt touch WR in the first 2 rounds unless someone like Jeffery or maybe Floyd drops to us, I would rather grab a player like Burfict or Upshaw, obviously if available and then a RT or pass rusher maybe like Vinny Curry in the 2nd. I dont know much about them aside from the occasional games I see and what I read but postionwise, this draft seems to fit some of our needs
I like this mock because instead of trying to make one pick for every area of perceived need, it focuses on building depth in what has become two of our weakest units: WR and OL. If we keep Burress, which I've come around to the idea of (because he and Sanchez have developed some chemistry and for the sake of continuity), I'd be fine waiting until round 3 for a receiver. If we let Burress go I'd rather take one in the first two rounds.
The best 2 things about this draft: 1. No reaching for a safety. This is something that really needs to be understood by Jets fans. Everyone wants an upgrade over Smith, but this year's draft is not the place to find him. 2. Marvin McNutt. I love this kid. I'm not a big fan of Big Ten football, but this kid seems to be the real deal. Like others, I disagree with the availability of Broyles in Round 4. He definitely will fall, but I think a team will grab him in the late 2nd or early third.
I dont watch to many college games during the year but I have caught a few Iowa games this year and McNutt always stands out. Love that pick.
