First Round: Nick Perry, 3-4 Outside Backer, Southern Cal – 6’3 265 Perry is my #2 pass rusher behind Alabama’s Courtney Upshaw. He’s got a nice mix of speed and power moves. He’ll be a terror off the edge. Second Round: Cordy Glenn, Offensive Lineman, Georgia – 6’5 348 Glenn is a criminally underrated tackle prospect. He has elite size and run blocking ability. This is the type of prospect that can come in and compete for a starting spot immediately. Third Round: Marvin McNutt, Wide Receiver, Iowa – 6’4 215 McNutt is a big, physical, go-up-and-get-it type of wideout. …because the class is so loaded, talented prospects like this will fall. This is a great year for receiver-needy teams. Fourth Round: Ryan Broyles, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma - 5'10 188 An ACL injury causes a slide. Broyles has top five talent at the position, but his knee injury will likely make him miss the combine. Fifth Round: Blake DeChristopher, Offensive Lineman – 6’5 320 Depth on the offensive line is important. DeChristopher has experience at both tackle spots and he’s a long-time starter. Limited upside will hurt his draft stock. Sixth Round: Kendall Reyes, Defensive Lineman, UCONN - 6'4 295 Athletic, versatile big man that's shown he can stop the run and get after the quarterback. Depth selection. Seventh Round: Kevin Koger, Tight End, Michigan – 6’4 258 Koger is a solid blocking tight end that has shown flashes as a receiver. Also, fuck Matthew Mulligan Notes: I understand that safety is a weak spot on our defense, but didn't select one because I truly believe there aren't any upgrades available in this year's draft class. We're better off trying to upgrade the position through free agency. Vontaze Burfict is my top target for the Jets, but WW85 selected him in his mock, so I decided to switch things up a bit. Nick Perry is a player that should be known. Bringing in another defensive lineman earlier was something I was going to do until Ryan Broyles tore his ACL. This team can not fix everything in one draft, but this upcoming draft will be huge for the future of this ball club. *Comments are greatly appreciated.
Interesting mock, different than most. Perry is moving up the draft board and could crack Rd 1, I expect HUGE combine numbers . Perry was highly recruited by Big Ten Teams and he decided to go to USC. I know Michigan, OSU & Michigan St were very interested!!! Glenn is very versatlie and could play RT or Guard. I doubt he will play LT in the NFL, his current position at Georgia. McNutt is a nice red zone target. IMO, some team will grab Broyles in late Rd 2 or at worst Rd 3 based on his entire college career. Overall a good mock that helps Mark Sanchez develop into a more consistent QB.
I expect the same. His statistics are very impressive too: 11 TFLs and 7.5 sacks through 10 games. I agree. I think he'll be a right tackle in the NFL, which is why I selected him. He'd be an upgrade over Wayne Hunter. McNutt's been good at everything at Iowa. He's over 1,000 yards receiving with double digit TDs in a pro-style offense. It's definitely possible, but his speed was already being questioned and his size leaves a lot to be desired. Missing the combine in a strong receiver class will hurt. Appreciate it, dude.
I'd love this draft for the most part, I feel foolish for not realizing Perry could be a top option at OLB this year. I guess after he disappeared his sophomore year, I put him out of mind. Only thing that I question is the Glenn pick, I see him as a Guard all the way. He's not athletic enough to stay on the outside, even if at RT. He's got great size and runblocking ability, but his passblocking has a lot of catching up to do. And DeChristopher looks like he's about to blow out a knee...
A lot of it has to do with his technique. For a kid his size, the athleticism is surprisingly there. If we're able to upgrade the tight end position, he'll have plenty of help to his left and his right as a young tackle. We could even use Wayne Hunter or Rob Turner at tight end again.
If we grabbed Broyles in a round later then the 2nd I would be pretty surprised but more so happy. I know the ACL injury will probably hurt his stock but this is the NCAA all time leader in receptions... I really like the order of positions drafted, especially the double dip at WR... And im guessing you're thinking that we are gonna get a safety through FA, so who do you think?
I agree with WW85, definitely different than most mocks. I like the positions you targeted, doubling up on wideout and Olineman was a smart move for sure. My first question like many others would be, Can Broyles make it too the Mid-Late 4th round? I agree with WW that Broyles on his college career alone could be picked higher. I think his floor is mid 3rd round, but we shall see. McNutt is a monster, he is one of the more physical WRs I have seen this season, and he is always around the ball. I dont know what it is but even when the pass is not too him he is somewhere too make a play on a tip or off pass. He also has that clutch gene that I love. Late in the game he'd be a stud. Nick Perry I havent yet considered a first rounder (prior thought of him more as a early to mid second rounder) but I see where you are coming from. He plays great each and every down, even when injured, which is impressive. Any chance he stays for another season next year though too boost his stock? I think he could easily become the #1 or #2 pass rusher in College Football next season next too Jarvis Jones and my hopeful breakout Ron Powell. I like the Idea of taking two Guard/Tackle prospects. I know you didnt exactly have that categorized as that but I like the possibility of Glenn or DeChristopher taking either Guard or Tackle spots ( Glenn more for Guard and DeChristopher more for tackle but you get my point of where they both maybe possible too play). Last thing with the Perry pick are you keeping confidence the Jets will be picking in the late 1st round? or Saying his stock will rise too the Mid first? Essentially do you still have confidence the Jets will make the playoffs? If not I think Upshaw could be right around 17-20 where if we dont make the playoffs (which I hope we do) we will be. Overall great job, I really cant disagree with any player in the mock.
Freddie Barnes broke all kind of records too. He had bad knees coming out of Bowling Green. I know Broyles plays against much better competition, but something tells me the injury will scare quite a few teams. This draft is loaded at receiver. I can see 3 or 4 healthy prospects passing him...Mo Sanu, Dwight Jones, Marvin McNutt, Jeff Fuller, and Juron Criner in particular. LaRon Landry, Michael Griffin, Dashon Goldson, and Reggie Nelson are all options.
I have faith in this team. I feel like things will fall our way and the Jets will earn a Wildcard spot. I don't think we'll make it to another AFC Championship though. That means we'll be picking somewhere in the twenties. Courtney Upshaw is a top fifteen player as of right now.
Agreed, but frankly Mohammed Wilkerson was a top 15 talent in terms of things last years draft yet he somehow fell too us. Now I understand, OLB and 3-4 DE are two completely different monsters in the draft but its never impossible too have a great player fall too us in the 20's. Its happened.
That I certainly cant disagree with. We need some Alabama blood on this team. Those players are as NFL ready, and we need that instant impact. No more projects in the first.
Mr. E this draft would make me wet my pants (in a good way)...Broyles in the 4th is questionable...I think he'll drop to the end of the third max, but I can't argue if hes there. Agree with the safeties too, very underwhelming year...but is there anything better on the free agent market?
I like this draft overall except for the multiple wide receivers. I think we could really use ILB depth there. Not a big deal though. Perry and Glenn would be a great 1-2.
I love this draft for the pure fact it has two of my favorite, under the radar/not getting enough love prospects for this year; Nick Perry and Marvin McNutt. Perry gets lost in the shuffle because he had a down sophomore year but he's bounced back big time this year would be perfect for this defense. Just so instinctful, gets his hands up and knocks down a crazy amount of passes when he doesnt get to the QB. McNutt is going to be a player in this league. He gets lost a bit because he's a former QB and he plays for an average team, but make no mistake, the kid can play and has great size which is ideal for us. Broyles would be a great pickup in the 4th and I agree, I see him falling to the late 3rd or 4th round, felt terrible for the kid after his injury but hopefully he can fight through it.
We have inside linebacker depth. Nick Bellore and Josh Mauga are very good depth players. The only way we draft an inside backer is if he's going to replace Bart Scott. So, Manti Te'o and Vontaze Burfict are the only realistic ILBs for us. We don't have depth at receiver...even if Burress is re-signed.
