This guy is supposed to be our PR specialist...he's not. He seems to be another body just taking up space and getting blocked. He reminds me of Marvin Washington. That guy had a body of a gladiatior and got blocked 1 on 1 every snap. Same here. Pace will get a garbage sack here or there but the fact is that he is nothing more than a guy occupying a blocker. He deserves just as much heat as anyone else. All this blitzing we do and he STILL gets blocked. He's slow, has no quickness and at times looks like he is out of gas by the 3rd play of the game.... then he'll get blocked behind the QB and that's it, he goes into jog mode cause he looks beat.
People like to say Calvin Pace is our pass rusher but hes just not. He has actually played well this year but people still expect more out of him because they have him labeled as pass rusher. Hes a good OLB but hes not the pass rushing specialist we need. He could maybe be a little more successful if he had a great pass rusher on the other side but he doesn't.
All I've been hearing this season, including Francesa, is that Pace has been really good this season.
What he does well is take up space on the outside. Both him and BT are (were) good in that regard but of all our LB'ers he IS our PR LB and is just NOT good at it. Is he a good LB vs the run? Yea, but when he goes after the QB the guy is horrendous and again, he is our 3-4 PR-LB
vs the run, and he got the gift INT in Buffalo. Tell fatty to let us know when he begins getting double teamed on a pass rush or beats his man and has a 2-3 sack game.
Don't use terms like 'gift INT', they undermine a decent argument. There are enough things he doesn't do well, there's no need to try to undermine the successes he has had.
You're right... It was a re-gifted INT....lol, Actually it was a good INT that was a product of good Defensive design and execution. He was in the right spot and made the play.
I don't ever think of Pace as the big time pass rusher. He's an above average pass rusher with the ability to do it all - run stop, drop into coverage, and create pressure. But how many Ware, Mathews, and Allen's are there in this league? Let's not put big expectations on a player who will never reach them.
There is a theory that he's been asked to do the job Bryan Thomas was doing in taking on setting the edge and taking on pulling guards head on.I'm not sure if there is much truth in that but he has really improved his run game.He was getting a decent amount of pressure earlier in the season. Either way though he's had a good season and you can make a decent case that he's been the second best player on defense. I can see what your saying about being the pass rush specialist but his career high season sack record was 6.5 before he joined us.A lot of people (possibly our front office as well) thought he'd be a pass rush stud but that's high expectations. He's a good player and I think it's harsh to call him out because he's not a DeMarcus Ware kind of player.
Good point ND Maybe I'm just wishing too much from this guy... but it kinda sounds like we should settle for a below avg pass rusher that is good vs the run? Maybe I should pass the frustrations to the FO for not addressing our pass rush situation.
All our LBs with the exception of Maybin is way too slow. And Maybin is raw. We shouldn't have to go to a tiny lineup every damn time we play our biggest rivals.
Hard for me to blame Pace for anything. I haven't really noticed him. If the Jets were a crime scene I don't think CSI could come up with a print.
Isn't he Sam? Since when Sam was the pass rushing specialist? I mean, are you expecting the LB to fight through LBs AND TEs and make things happen in the backfield?
Well they did get him as a PR specialist or maybe is that they sold that to us. While I do agree he is good against the run you really have to look at what else are we supposed to expect from him? Should we just say that he is a piece of the run stopping puzzle and that's good enough? I'm sorry, maybe i'm just expecting more from him. I do rewatch the games and at times his play vs the run is what makes the play but there are too many times where as I stated in my IP he just looks horrible rushing the passer.
Nah it is pretty simple, most of the game due to the Pats spread we were forced to play Eric Smith as a LB covering Gronkowski because our LBs are too slow, we literally have no one that can cover Gronkowski if Brady has time to throw. That is our problem.
Wrong board. The Albert Haynesworth,Joey Galloway, Chad Jackson,Fred Taylor,Adrian Klemm & Laurence Marroney threads can be found on any patriot blog
He's actually playing solid..... He never was the sack specialist guy that he was meant to be, just like Bryan Thomas..... They're both solid yet unspectacular players :shit:
Our front 7 all seem to be pretty average this year (I'd say Harris is the exception). I think everyone is expecting somebody to step up and make some big plays when it counts but so far it's just not happening. Pace has always been billed as our pass rushing LB but he's really more of an all-around guy. I think it's just that he's better at it than the rest of the guys we have which, unfortunately, isn't saying a whole lot.
