I won't go as far as to call the guy a "bust", but considering that this guy was supposed to be the replacement to Thomas Jones, he has been nothing but a major letdown.
Dropped/tipped passes aside, he was fine last night. He should have gotten more carries. I don't give a shit what that secondary looked like, even after the McCourty injury. We didn't run enough.
Green isn't 1/2 the player TJ was for he Jets. However the Jets defensive needs outweigh any serious upgrade at the RB position for the 2012 season. Tanny and Rex have a busy offseason coming up between coach firings and hirings. Also upgrading the "NFL's best defense".
theyre different players with different styles. jones had, consistently, a much better running line than greene has had. the jets lack of passing execution means teams dont have to worry about the pass and can stack the run. this statement is just stupid. when our line perform well, we perform well. last night andre carter had his way with our line and look what happened. you constantly jump to stupid conclusions. you should stop that.
The bottom line is this: The Jets cut the leading rusher in the AFC because they felt Shonn Green could do as good a job. That simply has not happened. Where is the stupidity in my conclusion?
Greene was having a nice night -- not a breakaway guy - he is 4 yards and a cloud of dust. Brodney being out last night hurt. Teams needs to upgrade the speed on defense next season though.
the jets also made changes to one of the leading OLines in the league. i think the lines lack of performance is the real issue here. when they performed well, against buffalo for instance, our run game was spot on and greene had a field day. they got manhandled last night and the entire game as a whole suffered
I dont think Greene is a major disappointment, but I dont think he's shown enough that the Jets should be 100% locked on him as the long term solution at running back
I wonder why the Jets in all my life have never had a legit star RB. Sure Martin was great and quite consistent, but he was never tearing up the league except for in a couple years.
you just described 99% of all star running backs. The odd time you'll run into an AP or Barry Sanders, but that's an extreme rarity.
TJ was a veteran player coming off one of his best seasons (and perhaps hitting his ceiling also) Going with Greene is the right call. He just doesnt have the exp yet that TJ had. I watched TJ at UVa for his time there and his early nfl career is a bit similar. Give him time, he will come good and hopefully as a Jet
I didn't say that the Jets necessarily should have kept Jones. I am saying that they were incorrect in choosing Green as the heir-apparent.
