Here is something I don't understand. How come sometimes when someone goes out of bounds with the ball...the clock stops and other times it does not? At the end of a game when a team is in hurry up mode, they always try to get out of bounds to stop the clock and going out of bounds, at that time, always does stop the clock. What is the deal?
If you are un-forced out of bounds the clock stops.. If the Tackler gets to you and the whistle goes before ur over the line it continues
Sometimes they call forward progress if they get stopped by a defender in bounds then go out of bounds after. If they legit go out of bounds the clock will always stop though.
Interesting....I was thinking it had something to do with the point in the game or point in the half....so it has nothing to do with that? Same rules apply with 12 minutes left in the first that apply with 1:30 left in the fourth?
Ok in the bengals-steelers game with 14 left in the 4th I just saw a bengal walk out of bounds...clock stopped briefly but started up again before the ball was snapped.
I'm pretty sure it has to do with the end of each half as well. Like if you go out of bounds on the first play of the game, I'm pretty sure the clock starts up again after the ball is spotted. I think it might be under 4 minutes in each half maybe?
I think a play out of bounds stops the clock with 2 mins left in the half and with 5 mins left in the game. edit: out of bounds used to always stop the clock but there was an effort years ago to speed up the games.
This is what I've heard and I think it's correct: When a player goes out of bounds with more than 5:00 left in either half, the clock will only stop until the ball is reset, then will be started again. When a player goes out of bounds with less than 5:00 left in either half, the clock stops until the snap.
