Dude, sorry but are you fucking kidding me. As has been pointed out repeatedly in this thread, the man ADMITTED to showering on your campus with an 8 year old boy. And yet, thereafter, he would attend football dinners with YOUNG BOYS, out of state games with YOUNG BOYS. Your fucking program did NOTHING. GTFOH with that polyanna see no evil hear no evil bullshit. Your support, and those of your fellow students, of a man who cared more about a stupid football program than poor boys with no one to speak up for them is disgusting.

But who gives a shit, right, they were just poor Black boys. Not worth your football program's reputation.

I retract my previous statement, but it still may apply for being a Lion's fan.

Lol...So This retirement decision was Joe Paterno's OWN decision, not the one advised by the Board of Trustees...So this could still be something the Board could decide by Friday.

    He said
ARE YOU KIDDING ME JOE????????????????? Easy would be to leave RIGHT NOW

This guy is still thinking about completing the season. This school must get him out before the Nebraska game.

Anyone else find the timing a little funny that this finally comes out after he became the D1 all time wins leader?

I understand why people want Paterno fired immediately (I wish he would do the right thing and resign, but he didn't do the right thing ten years ago so I can't expect it now), but can someone explain to me two things first?

'Who' is going to fire him? Penn State has to clean house entirely, a lot of the guys who would normally fire a coach (president, AD) are already out the door as it is. I guess it would have to be the trustees coming to a consensus, anyone else that would have the authority to fire him that isn't going anywhere?

And who is going to coach the team? You can say it doesn't matter, but really how many guys on the staff aren't tarnished in some way or other by what happened anyway? Especially with Sandusky hanging around campus until last week, reportedly. Odds are nobody on the staff is going to be around past the rest of this year anyway, and they might resist taking the job under these circumstances out of loyalty to JoePa.

if the player's had any integrity themselves they would refuse to play for Paterno. all it takes is one leader to take a stand and the rest will follow.

that would be the first step in improving the reputation of the University -- the players themselves taking a stand for what is right. I think that would carry a lot of weight. otherwise it looks like everyone involved is simply interested in business as usual, and that business is tarnished.

I'll go with the Governor. The Governor of Pennsylvania should fire him.

Doesn't matter, have nobody coach them for all we care and run around in circles for 60 minutes. The season is already OVER for Penn State after this, and they need to make sure it's not over permanently. I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA is pressuring the board behind the scenes as we speak to release him immediately.

The board of the university needs to bench him immediately. Can you imagine what the opposing fans are going to say/do? If I was still in college and Pedo State Univ came to my team, I am pretty sure I could come up with something brutal.

As to the coach, another poster said he didn't care. Nevertheless, the players were not a part of this and deserve to finish their season.

    My solution:
    1) Paterno and McQuery are placed on paid leave until a final investigation is completed. They are prohibited from showing up at PSU games.
    2) The remaining coaching staff stays in place for the rest of the season. They will be told that they will not be back in 2012.
    3) I would reach out to a former PSU player to be a figurehead coach for the rest of 2011. Alternatively, I would look to bring in an out of work pro coach (Preferably with Pennsyvania ties like Wandstedt/Cowher/Ditka) to manage the staff.
    4) I release 100% of the remaining players from their scholarship if they wish and ask the NCAA to allow them the opportunity to "free transfer" next year. SMU did this and the NCAA approved.
    5) I would bring an entirely new coaching staff and AD for 2012.

The key - they must start over and clean out all the stench of Joe Pedo.

Sandusky "saddened" by Paterno retirement and the possibility that Spanier and Paterno could be forced out

    Published: Wednesday, November 09, 2011, 6:58 PM

Jerry Sandusky is "distraught and saddened" at head football coach Joe Paterno's announcement to retire at the end of the season, and the possibility that he might be forced out earlier, following the child sex abuse charges filed against Sandusky and the scandal that has since exploded on campus.

"He is also saddened that University President Graham Spanier may lose his position," Joe Amendola told The Patriot-News.

Sandusky continues to maintain his innocence, Amendola said.

"And to refute the Attorney General's allegations lodged against him last Saturday."

The allegations are that he used his charity, The Second Mile, to find children he could molest. Sandusky has been charged with abusing eight children.

I wanted to defend JoePa. Last night I made two posts doing so that I edited out and covered up. You all know me, I am known to take positions against the grain but even I can't defend him. It's sad that this would happen under one of the most respected coaches in college history. I'm not even a PSU fan aside from if they're on the tv playing and OM isn't on.

JoePa probably thought he was acting according to the rules of the chain of command when he reported it to the AD. That's about the only part of it he got right. As soon as it was evidence of a cover up because the guy still had football access, he should have taken it to the next level. At the same time, how can you blame him for not? Maybe he thought the graduate assistant was lying and the investigation proved that much so he let it go. Either way can't justify it..maybe he just gave him the benefit of the doubt and didn't know better, but it's still the end of him.

He just announced he's retiring at the end of the season. It's the end of an era. You have to have sympathy for the victims, and everyone's hearts obviously go out to them, but at the same time I might just not want to believe it about Paterno, or just don't want to see him out of football over something he didn't do himself.

Why should the players penalize themselves for something that the higher ups have covered up?

because integrity includes thinking about a larger situation instead of just yourself. only someone who sees themselves as a victim or feels sorry for themselves would look at a situation that requires them to make a decision that reflects who they are and what they stand for and feel they are being penalized because they have to make that decision. men of courage and substance embrace such situations. these are just kids for the most part, but they have a chance to show they are men.

Penn St. needs separation from this incident. Penn St. football specifically needs separation from this incident. that separation starts with Paterno and needs to start immediately.

if the players stand up and say they don't agree with what he did and don't think he should coach them and represent Penn St., then the football team has separated itself from the most public face of the scandal and the football team will be viewed with integrity and courage.

if they just go along with Paterno as usual, they look like everyone else that supports him.

you choose to victimize them for having to make a decision. I choose to say that life doesn't dole out its lessons evenly, and some people have to make decisions other people never have to face and that doesn't make them victims.

These kids are already going to suffer for this, the underclassmen are going to go through more turmoil than any student athlete since probably SMU's death penalty since their athletic program leadership will certainly be wiped out after this, and the seniors have their games completely overshadowed by this scandal. I'd be more understanding to your point of view if this even happened during these kids playing careers, these kids joined the university long after all these allegations took place, long after the cover up happened. Whether you say be a man or not is silly asking kids to sacrifice what they have been dreaming to do for years and for a few drastically affect their future to follow principles.

The players haven't committed a crime or have done anything ethically wrong, they should not receive a penalty for being innocent bystanders. They could easily be playing for a cause against sexual abuse like what the NFL does with breast cancer every year. Instead of sitting out.

they aren't going to suffer if Joe Paterno doesn't coach them the rest of the season. don't be such a hysteric about this.

having to make a tough choice that reflects who you are and what you stand for as a man isn't being penalized, it should be viewed as an great opportunity that not all people have the chance to face.

they don't need you to victimize them. if you and I were talking to them together, would you really be telling them how it isn't fair while I countered with how this was an opportunity for them to define themselves to the world who they are and what they are made of?

don't you see how ridiculous that would make you look?

thats what I don't get. i mean where the fuck was this chick in the whole mess? You can't tell me the innumerable times that a young boy slept over their house where sandusky went into the basement (according the GJR) she either was never around or simply didnt notice him leaving.

She should be getting crucified as much, if not more so than the penn state officials, who undoubtedly deserve it, but at least they werent in the same house/car/ on the same trips where she could see him do these things and see the boys say no or stop.

Did anybody know that this jackass Graham Spanier (Penn St prez) is also the head of the BCS Pesidential Oversight Commitee. So we know he was willing to cover this shit up so who knows what other bullshit within the BCS has this guy thrown under the carpet?
