IMO 90% of his improvment is coming from bunking with Revis and Darelle taking him under his wing as a mentor in the offseason
i get what you're saying... and to some extent i agree. but i think that's a bit of an insult to KDub. dude's improved drastically from last season, sure. but he was always a solid tackler and had the tools. it was his timing, and confidence (well the confidence is my take- i could be way off base here). Revis tought him the little things like taking away lanes and getting your head around faster, but the rest of the package that is making him lights out, he already had. again, i'm arguing semantics, as i agree with the point. really though he's playing great. that first play of the game he was in there for the immediate stop. if that was cro, that's a big gain.
You're confidence point is right on. And I don't think it was lack of confidence in himself, it was just the confidence of playing at an NFL level, which does take some time as a CB. And his tackling is up there with the good CBs in this league. He squares up and does it right. CB is a tough position to play in today's NFL. That's why its not a big deal for him to have the rookie season he had, which resulted in only one truly bad game - his first. But no one excepts that even though there is documentation of it. I know I was in the vast minority among the Jets fanbase, but I was fine with Revis and Wilson as the #1-2 and the Jets FO could just go and find someone else for the slot position, plus Strickland.
Wilson is a great tackler. i really like that about his game. He's been great in run support and preventing YAC, on top of his coverage skills. the whole mccourty vs wilson thing has flipped so dramatically. it's funny
in my opinion its way easier to cover the number 3 receiver and the slot (wilson), than covering the number 2 receiver (mccourty). im not gonna take anything away from kyle because hes having a fantastic season.
our defensive scheme isn't that simple. for you to assume he's lined up every single time against the slot receiver (and actually ends up covering him as the play develops) shows you have very little clue to how our defense works. there's definitely validity to that thought process but it's not really accurate
yeah ik our defensive scheme is isnt that simple, i mean there were times where wilson was lined up against Vjax against the chargers. and i completely understand how our defense works. but for the most part wilson covers the guy in the slot and dont bullshit me like he doesnt. mccourty has alot more responsibility than wilson thats all im trying to say pal.
To add upon this, it needs to be realized that we're also in a unique situation. The Slot CB isn't the easiest position to play on this team. With Revis covering their top receivers, the slot and the #2 CBs are the most thrown at, making Wilson the second most thrown to CB. I also feel like it's definitely not easy to cover a slot receiver, the quick easy slants are very hard to defend against.
It helps that he can tackle well. Plus having Eric Smith in the secondary, he might as well be another linebacker.
Ditto... why do you think Welker gets 100yds a game, as a slot receiver you have the whole field to play with which, IMO, is much more difficult for a corner to defend.
Welker is also great at disguising his breaks and run perhpas the most crisp routes in all of football ATM. He puts on a clinic week in and week out of what it takes to be a NFL receiver if your not 6'5" and fast as hell. For all the Press Revis and Cro get, Kyle is quickly becoming a great corner in his own right. I love the physical presence he brings to the D right now. Its Revis like in his play of the line and his open felid tackling. The kid has the skill if he keeps the work ethic and attitude pointed in the right direction.
I loved the tackles Cromartie had in Sunday's game against the Bills. I was really impressed with the hit on CJ Spilller. I could hear the hit Cromartie put on him from the t.v. mic.
Cromartie can lay hits on receivers when they are about to catch and sort of defenseless. The hits he struggles with is when someone is already running hard. He struggles to wrap people up on tackles more then lay hits.
