I was wondering who we as Jets fans should root for in that game between the Ravens and Steelers? I suck at all the playoff scenarios and all the tiebreakers and stuff Discuss
Root for the Steelers. The Ravens are the one team in the AFC the Jets just are not suited to beat. The best scenario for the Jets in the AFC North is for Cincinnati to win the division and the Steelers to eliminate the Ravens in the wild card tiebreak.
I don't want to spoil anyone's fun, but imo it is way too early with too much football to be played to be talking playoff scenarios.
I think it's really too early to tell but my gut tells me we should be rooting for the Ravens since they have beaten us head to head. If the Ravens don't wind up winning their division, they would be more of a threat to our wild card chances if the Jets and Ravens wound up with the same record at the end of the year.
Ravens own the head-to-head tie-breaker against us. the answer should be obvious. no matter what happens we need to have a better record than the Ravens, so why would we not want them to lose?
Root for the steelers, I am thinking home field advantage. The Jets would lose a head to head tie breaker for home field advantage against the Ravens. That would mean the Ravens would have to lose two more games if they didn't lose this week. It's possible, but I could see it not happening. With the Steelers, if they lost to one more AFC team after this week the Jets would have a much better shot of getting home field advantage. With all the injuries the steelers have I could see them slip up against an AFC team in the coming weeks. For the wildcard I don't think it matters that much. The Ravens and Steelers will get the division and a wildcard spot most likely, I think if the Jets finish 10-6 at worst with only one more AFC loss they will get the other wildcard.
Although there is a lot of football left to be played, if the Patriots [or Bills]take the division, the Jets would be fighting for a wildcard. They have a better chance of winning a wildcard over the Steelers if they have the same record than over the Ravens since the Ravens own the head to head tiebreaker on them. That is why the answer is not as obvious as you might think.
Root for the Steelers to win, or for a tie. A tie takes a win from both teams final record so I like it best. Of course, if the Jets don't win, then why do we care?
way too early...we lose to Buffalo and NE and there's no need to worry about this stuff........but that being said, I will be pulling for the Ravens, I want all of these teams with as many L's as possible.
we have pretty much no shot beating out either one of those teams in a wild card scenario ... just look at their schedules. we need to focus on winning the division or get used to the idea of being a #6 seed again.
honestly either the steelers or ravens will be the 5th seed, so we'll be battling for the last wild card spot. so to me it doesn't matter.
Id rather return to Pittsburgh in the playoffs than go to Baltimore again. But then again if Flaccos going to play like that the Jets can just knee the ball the whole game and they will win.
Go with the Ravens in the game and for them to win the division. Losing a tiebreaker to Baltimore for division seedings wouldn't result in elimination from the playoffs like a wild card tie breaker would. It could result in losing a bye if both the Jets and Ravens win the division but that is the much lesser of two evils. Jets have a better shot at beating the Steelers in a tiebreaker scenario. Whether it is for seeding if both teams win their respective divisions or if they are breaking the tie for the wild card there will be no head to head game so the first tiebreaker is conference record. A Jet win and Steeler loss this week leaves both teams tied with an identical conference record at 4-3 with both having 5 games left on the conference schedule. Steelers have CIN & CLE home and away and @ KC left on their conference schedule. Jets have NE, @ Den, BUF, KC, @ Mia left on their conference schedule. If they have identical conference records the next tiebreaker is best winning % against common opponents. There will be 5 common games played against 4 opponents (BAL, JAX, NE, KC). Right now Jets are 1-2 in that scenario (beating JAX, losing to BAL & NE). A win vs. NE and KC both at home gets them to 3-2. Steelers are 2-1 in that scenario (beating JAX & NE, losing to BAL). Gotta have them lose to BAL again and give them that 2nd loss in common games. Then it will come down to how both teams fare in their respective games against KC. If still tied than it is strength of victory. Way, way too early to go there at this point with alot of football to played but with PIT getting wins against IND, SEA, ARI so far and likely STL later in the season that one has real potential to go the Jets way. So I say go Ravens!!!!
Ravens are the easier team to beat. Steelers always play everyone tough as shit, Ravens got beat down by the Jags and Titans. Theyre vulnerable, and Flacco sucks
I would agree completely with this if it were later in the season and we were actually looking at potential playoff elimination and matchups with some degree of certainty. Since we're not, I think Big Blocker hit the nail squarely on the head:
