I have been saying this for years. Belichick's strategy of trading down in the draft is always noted as unquestionably brilliant on draft day, but it tends to yield a roster that has to rely on second chance free agents as playmakers. I think his hubris has lead him to believe he can turn a turd into a gold nugget.

I think the incredible talent of Brady and his early success has lead Belichick to believe that he can win with a roster of lunch pail guys who succeed thru continuous competition for roster spots. No question, it's important to have some of those guys, but it's also important to have elite athletes for them to supplement.

All I know is, we can't let their defense full of scrubs take advantage of us anymore

We called the plays as if they were the '85 Bears. We targeted Keller TWICE. Did you get a load of what Heath Miller was doing? We didn't challenge their corners. We ran up the gut.

It was just terrible. It was the worst game plan all year, and that's saying a lot.

The thing is if BB ever used those extra picks it to move up for a stud it would be a brilliant strategy but he never takes a shot at relies on quantity over quality to upgrade his team.

My worry is the new rookie salary cap may allow BB to rethink his drop back strategy. The rookies are much more affordable now.

Notice Ihedigbo was starting at safety yesterday. Sorry, he is a good ST player and occasional blitzer, but not a starter. But on the Patriots, he is.

How much of it is just Belichick's personnel decisions and how much of it is coaching?

I think Belichick's coaching or lack there of does get a pass in this case. He is just not as good a defensive mind as he once was.

I just don't know if he is coaching up his players effectively, which is a big and underrated part to having a good team.

Is it as simple as picking the wrong players or is he not utilizing his players strengths well?

^^I laugh when I see this on sundays...Ihedigbo was always a fan favorite with the Jets, but in no way were we delusional enough to think he was a starting safety. He was used as more of a LB in our system, its just funny how BB thought he could start at safety with his lack of coverage skills lol:shit:

Yeah, but he won't be able to stockpile picks anymore for that very reason. Those days are over for him.

Look at their big FA acquisitions this year too.

Haynesworth, Ellis, Ocho. The invisible men.

And isn't strange that the patsfag trolls that love to hang around TGG must all be on vacation the last couple of days.

Take away the QB and the HC and what do you have? A top 10 draft pick.

Okay, it's their second loss of the season. Can't really get on them for losing to the Steelers in Pittsburgh. They still went 14-2 last season.

I haven't been posting much here lately the past few weeks, but since we are being called out, I guess I will respond.

We lost to a very good team yesterday. In fact, we have played 6 good teams by my count, and we are 4-2 against them. All of a sudden, Belichick has "lost his touch" and the Patriots "simply don't have enough talent to beat elite teams"?

...umm breaking news here, just about every team loses games once in a while, even the so-called "elite" ones. In case no one remembers, about a month ago the media was writing articles similar to this about this "elite" Steelers team. Even more recently, they were writing articles like this about the Jets. In fact, a week ago they were writing articles about how this "elite" Steelers' defense was fundamentally flawed, and couldn't compete against "elite" passing offenses.

The pats schedule is looking a lot easier the rest of the way, and we only have two losses so far... I see no reason for alarm. You can bet your ass that the media will be singing a different tune come late December.

Also, I'm not particularly worried about our ability to beat "elite" teams. If our offense had sustained a couple more drives yesterday, that game would have been very winnable. In fact, even if the Gronk potential-TD pass had been called differently we might have won that game with more time on the clock. I have little confidence in our defense, but I have a lot of confidence that our offense won't struggle that way against one team twice. If we match up against the Steelers again, I'm actually going to be pretty confident.

Also, how many "elite" teams are there? The Steelers seem to be firing on all cylinders, but were struggling fairly recently. What other team has faced good competition and consistently played well on both sides of the ball? Off the top of my head, I can't think of any.

In the meantime, the Patriots are still in position to get into the playoffs... unlike certain other teams with fans who are suddenly acting tough.

After we beat you and the Bills, we also have a pretty nice schedule the rest of the way. However, your last five games are a joke. Colts, Redskins, Broncos, Dolphins, and Bills? Sometimes I wonder why the NFL doesn't just come out and say, "You don't have to play anymore games. Here's a first round bye."

Why don't you just admit you got destroyed? Pittsburgh's offense moved the ball at will and their defense was in Brady's face all day. They out-gained you by 200 yards and won the time-of-possession battle by 19 minutes. By the way, how many catches did Heath Miller have in the first quarter? It felt like 70. I also liked how Bill Belichick thought it was a good idea for Kevin Faulk to lead all your running backs in touches. Isn't he pushing 40 now? But I see what you're saying, it was a pretty competitive game if you turned all the times Brady got hit into 15 yard penalties like the refs normally do.

We're a game back in the division. Two weeks away from being in first place.

    Oh yeah, eat shit.

All I heard all offseason was how genius these pickups were; how Plax was a clear downgrade, yet Ochocinco was a huge upgrade. Ellis was an automatic upgrade because he left our team for theres.

I have a buddy at work who's a pretty objective Pats fan and he tells me every week how Belichick's hubris is getting the better of him, that he can just trade/sign anyone and turn them back to their pro bowl form.

Haynesworth wouldn't play for $100 million in Washington, but will somehow revive his career in NE?

Ochocinco has less than 10 receptions on the season right?

I don't even think Ellis plays for the Pats, and if he does it's strictly on 3rd downs.

They played a horrible game, especially on defense. Could not get off the field on third down, and some of them were really long third downs. Frustrating as hell to watch.

The only sliver of optimism was no TDs in the red zone in the 2nd half on 3 tries.

As bad as the Pats played, they still had a shot to win at the end. If they don't get a bad spot on what should have been Gronkowski's TD with 4 and half minutes left, they may have gotten one more chance to stop the Steelers and steal the game. They very well might not have stopped them anyway, but it never should have been that close.

It does make the rematch with the Jets that much bigger though.
