You think we'll beat the Bills twice and the Pats, but we'll lose two of Miami, Giants, Denver, Washington, Kansas and Philly?
The thing I found most interesting was that Belichick was well aware of how atrocious teams are coming off the bye week and still couldn't do anything about it.
lol. By the way, if we win the 3 gimmes - Miami, Denver, and Washington - and split the tougher 6 games - Bills x2, Pats, Giants, KC, and Philly - then we would end up 10-6. Cliches notwithstanding, that seems very reasonable. Now, will 10-6 get us into the playoffs? It's hard to say since Pitt and Balt should both win at least 10 games and take one of the WCs. [Unless Cincinnati somehow keeps this up,] it's looking more and more like the AFC Playoffs will consist of the top 2 teams from both the AFC East and AFC North + the winners of the AFC West and AFC South.
yes, I think we lose to the NYG in a shitfest collapse of a game that pisses off the whole board, and we lose to Philly, as Eric Smith lets D-Jax get behind him at least once, and we can't stop Shady Mccoy. To be honest Shady and Fred Jackson are the only 2 elite Rb's we have to face for the rest of the regular season. Shady is going to have the better day, because we can put 9 in the box against the bills if we want to, we can't do that to Philly they have plenty of weapons on offense, including that rb that can throw the ball.
-In 2009 we had gone into our bye losing 4 of 5 games -In 2010 we lost a very close game to a very good team, that game was up for grabs late in the 4th. It was a strange, windy day that played a major factor w/ both offenses. We had also struggled in our 2 previous games against bad teams. We seem to be improving the last few weeks heading into this years bye. I expect a win on Sunday.
I expect to win, but wouldn't be shocked if we lose. Would be nice to go on a nice winning steak after the BYE.
It's not going to be easy, Buf has a quality team and they seem to have some home magic. heading into the Miami game through the 2nd Bills game stretch I thought this would be our toughest game(even tougher than NE at home) and I still feel that way but I still expect to win.
We need to take a few notes on how the Eagles approach bye weeks. Reid is 13-0 in games following the bye during his stint with the Eagles. That's pretty good.
There comes a point where you have to accept that it's not just random - he and his staff really do seem to know something that other people don't. It shouldn't be that difficult to figure out what it is, but for some reason no one else seems to have gotten it.
To quantify what some have mentioned earlier: Teams were 3-9 off the bye as of last week, but the sample was very skewed by awful teams. This Sunday teams were 5-1 (Patriots as the only loss) off the bye. (per PFT)
I believe the comment they kept making during the Patriots game is that Bill Belichick watched film of every team coming off their bye this week and noticed one commonality: sloppy tackling. I don't doubt a guy like Belichick, who probably drilled his players harder during previous byes than any coach in the league, would fear this new week-off policy. It's also not a surprise that a guy like Reid- who always gave his players a full week off, not just this year- had a team that looked rested and polished. With that said, I'm concerned about Fred Jackson. I'd like to think that this team is ready to stop the run, but I'll need to see it first. Shady's going to have a field day against this team. I'm not afraid of Michael Vick, but McCoy is the closest thing I've seen to Barry Sanders since Barry Sanders. We're weak against cutback runners, and McCoy can cut back, up, down, through time... the dude's fucking impressive. I'd rather go against Adrian Peterson twice than play that guy.
Imo there's a real concern here about coming off the bye week. I guess I am not surprised by posters here already talking about hte Pats game, but I can't get into that. I am concerned that the Jets will not be able to stop Jackson, and if it's due primarily to lousy tackling, which would most likely be the case since certainly the CS is going to do all it can this week to coach them into stopping Jackson, that will be very hard to take. I in fact think the Jets will be focused, and am not at all predicting a failure to tackle. But it is a concern, no doubt.
Nothing against Fred Jackson and the great season he is having but I agree. McCoy is most likely going to have a big day against the Jets. The Jets secondary matches up well but the front 7 against McCoy and Vick doesn't. Anyway that is a future game. This week they need to set edges, and keep Jackson between the tackles....
