Infrastructure doesn't seem seem very important until it falls apart.

Didn't have power last night, partial power until about 11PM then nothing.

Came back on about 11AM this morning. Snow is melting fast, which is good.

Trees snapping under the weight taking down power lines. Two blocks over still don't have power. Now it's starting to melt, yay! Let the slushy mess begin. When we went without power for 3 days after Irene, I suggested getting a generator. Do we have one? No. Aw, we won't need that. Uh huh.

Whoever thought a day would come when living on the coast would be safer than living inland? These last couple of storms have really fucked you guys up. We had some snow and some wind here on LI, but nothing too bad.

People in Nebraska would have a hard time calling you "inland"

Looked at a whole home generator thru Home depot. Cost was kinda high though (5grand) but it certainly seems like a good investment IF we were planning on staying in our home for another decade. I remember losing over 200buks in food when I didn't put the fridge on a surge suppressor. If we do get one, we'll tie it into our gas line too. I'm thinking perhaps a 10Kw unit should do it.

I've never seen a few inches of snow do so much damage. I was out of power for 36 hours

I don't understand this post one bit.
Pam lives in PA, I live on LI, about 10 minutes from the GSB. When did I claim to be inland?

I fully expect to see this being used as justification for your not attending the tailgate in 2 weeks.

Seems like it was a combination of well below normal temps hitting warm and humid air coming off the ocean. A classic northeaster. No snow at all from mid Jersey south, with over 30 inches in West Milford, which is in New Jersey. It depended where you are, in other words.

I got it pretty bad. No power since 2pm Saturday. Branches and trees down. At least we have a wood burning stove and plenty of firewood.

and 15 minutes after I posted this, a huge ass branch from the same tree came crashing down onto wire and snapped it. Only person on my street without power. Although it could be worse, there was a house on my street that was on fire last night.
