I've done it in 3 continents and it is better in Ireland. Don't know if it's the water or just that it isn't shipped across the world but it tastes good. One thing that always threw me off was always the fat English birds that drink Budweiser.
Badger...just got my hands on some 21st Amendment Fireside Chat winter warmer. 7.9 percent. I know you're a fan of the brewery, I'll check back in tomorrow with an evaluation. Also got a 6 of the Heavy Seas Marzen and the Lagunitas Maximus. Yeah, I'm pretty excited. I also got a 6 of Kona's Wailea Wheat for shits and giggles.
If it's decent you ought to bring some by to the tailgate. I still haven't been able to get my hands on their stuff.
Badger....I don't know where in Queens you are most frequently but B & B Beverage Distributors right by the Bayside LIRR station (I believe 41st Ave.) used to have an amazing beer selection. American and imported. You should check it out if you can.
I'll see if it's still there. I'm in that neighborhood once in a while but I haven't noticed a place like that. Edit: just found it on Google maps. I'll check it out. I was at Sullivan's down the street just a few weeks ago.
Winter's coming, best beer season. Porters, Stouts, Dark beer, mmmm... I've already picked up some Brooklyn Winter. I'm going to have to find some Mad Elf and if I get lucky a Corsendonk Christmas Ale. I still have some Sierra Nevada Porter and Stout from last year that I need to finish up. I recently had Blue Point's chocolate stout at a bar, was really good. They don't seem to bottle it though, I hope I can find some somewhere.
I usually love beeradvocate.com but fuck them! They, and their users have scored, that 21st Amendment Fireside Chat pretty low, but I gotta say, I'm digging the shit out of this beer now. Very smooth for the kick it's got. Definitely good for a relatively chilly night.
ok beer pros, Im looking for suggestions. As spring nears I nee to get off stouts and chocolate bocks and oatmeal, bloating beers. But I dont want any crispy, citrusy spring beers. Im looking for the happy medium. What shall I get?
Weizenbock, IMO. Fruity, but not citrusy. Dark fruits, even some banana, and occasionally some spice. Mild carbonation, 7-9% ABV. It can be pretty easy to drink if well done, but not as easy as a citrusy IPA or Amber ale. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/92 http://beeradvocate.com/lists/style/92 http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/72/224
Love that one. Lagunitas is so distinctive. Got myself 2 4-packs of KBS. Trying to find a night where I have the time to drink an 11% Stout...
Came home to bump this thread for that beer. Its awesome. Had it with a great meal. Buying some tomorrow for home.
The store I work at only allows customers to buy 1 bottle of KBS at a time (same goes for Dogfish Head's 120 minute IPA) By the way anyone get their hands on Dogfish's 75 minute IPA? I have a bottle but haven't cracked it open yet. I'm about to open up some Nugget Nectar. Got a case of it a few weeks ago. 1 more 6 pk left.
My wife likes some of Lagunitas. I could take it or leave it. I don't get the hype about their beers but I know everybody has those breweries other people think are the shit but you just think its shit. So no hating. In the Dallas area we don't get much distribution of the great northeast beers or much of the west coast. Fortunately, we get a handful of Colorado beers, plenty of the most distributed Belgians thanks to one of the big importers being in Austin, and a smattering of some good beers from the very vibrant beer scene in Austin and surrounding areas. No founders, no smuttynose, no russian river, no lost abbey, no firestone walker, etc.
Just picked up a 6 pk of Lagunitas IPA (6.20% ABV), 4 pk of Dogfish Head's Aprihop (7.00% ABV), and a 25 oz. bottle of Labyrinth Blake Ale (13.20% ABV), from the Crooked Line Series of Unita Brewing.
