I think with Maybin, we have a solid 3rd down situational pass rusher at OLB. The thing is if we don't resign Bryan Thomas, we need an OLB who steps up vs the run as we are missing out on that right now. Would be great to get a complete OLB but the OLB we draft HAS to excel at stopping the run. As of now OLB, S and WR are the top 3 needs for us IMO. Probably can draft 2 OLineman too later in the draft. Likewise if we can find a good punt returner/special teamer in round 6 or 7, I would do that. Kerley has not been bad at all but no need to increase his chance of getting hurt. He's becoming valuable on offense. We can use someone with more speed at punt returning late in the rounds if possible.
If the Jets were able to wrangle in someone like Colston, that would knock back the need for a WR a few rounds. Yeah Yeah, Colston has been banged up a lot, but he's productive enough to take that risk. Then take a WR on the 3rd or 4th round as the future/insurance if/when Colston goes down. With the multitude of WRs and OLBs this year, along with another weak group of Safeties, it really muddles what the Jets could do with their 1st...
I think you answered your own ??. Kerley isn't a #2 WR and Turner, Payne and Scotty boy is very weak depth.
At this point in his career I doubt you can still call it a risk. More like a question of when. I want to see the Jets take a shot at a WR early in the draft, round 1 or 2.
Point taken, but he's still worth the risk. Now if the Jets don't sign a WR, it would be the top option for the Jets in the draft unless a premiere OLB prospect fell to them. They'd have to double dip on the WR position, but will be very easy with this class of receivers. One name that isn't being tossed around with the rest is LSU's Rueben Randle. A big, fast downfield threat who is surely shooting up draft boards as we speak...
Honestly, I think the Jets would go to FA first to fill a WR vacancy (as far as immediate starter is concerned) I don't know how, but I would love to see the Jets come up with Nick Toon in the second round. If they come up with a playmaking Safety or an elite pass rushing OLB in the first, then all the better. The more I see Toon play, the more excited I get about him and his prospects at the next level, and being a legacy player it would be something else to have him in Green & White.
Addresses all of our needs plus a Badger. I'm on board, especially with multiple picks being used for OL and WR. If I had to change anything I'd want a WR in round 2 but it all depends on who's on the board.
I think a bigger question is, if the Jets feed Plax the ball and he comes up with 10+ TDs this year, do the Jets bring him back on a 1 or 2 year contract? I still say we address the WR position early, but I think if we retain Plax it will mean a round or two later.
If the Jets bring Plaxico back on a short term deal, I could see us going after UNC's Dwight Jones or Arizona's Juron Criner in the second. Jones and Criner are big, physical wideouts that will take time to learn the game. Burress isn't going to play forever, so we need to bring in more size at the position. I could also see the front office going after another smallish wideout like Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles. Our passing scheme is all about fast, timing routes. He'd be a baller in this system. Green Bay and Pittsburgh have done extremely well with smaller wideouts. It's something to think about.
The addition of WRs also depends on who our OC will be next year... #18 would be a bit high (WW I hope you're a tad too pessimistic) but if we pick around 23-32 I think we should really keep Fuller and Sanu in consideration. Fuller is more of a sure thing + a good blocker on the outside, Sanu to me has all the potential to become an extremely good WR (ala Miles Austin) and, come draft day, will be worthy of a rd 1 selection.
Mo Sanu is a much more hyped prospect than Miles Austin, who went undrafted. Jeff Fuller and Mo Sanu are second rounders right now. Jeffery, Blackmon, Floyd, and Broyles should go in the first. If we are taking a receiver in the twenties, it should be Broyles or Floyd.
