Anybody realize that the title of this thread means, Week7 Chargers at JETS must be destroyed? Does this really make any sense at all? Just sayin'....
I dunno, I think it depends on the opposition. Against a team with a weakness in the line that our OL can exploit to tear holes I'd want Greene all day long - at 32 years old with the amount of carries he's got on his body I don't want to see us sending LT into the teeth of the linebackers 20 times a game. That's Greene and Conner's game, smashmouth downhill running. LT is being utilised in exactly the right way so far this season, I think - running to the edges, catching screens from the backfield (although the plays could be better designed, I'll grant you) and lining up wide in four receiver sets. LT can still dance, but I like seeing him used in situations where he's got the space to use his moves. Greene is there to take the big hits.
All I'm hoping for this week is something convincing. They look average on D, below average on offense. Convince me I'm not in for a 7-9/8-8 record. Put up some numbers, shut down Matthews, anything. I know this all sounds generic but this team is really friggin' difficult to get a feel for this year. I want Holmes or Kerley to really have a huge game. 8-10 grabs, 120+ yards from either of them. Oline holds up and I think there's a damn good shot it happens.
If we're smart we'll pick on Weddle. Send Keller right at him. Weddle is so soft, but I wouldn't really expect Schotty to take advantage of any mismatch. Why change his ways now?
im really hoping manusky has learned his lesson with putting weddle on a tight end. He isnt strong enough and its not his game. Hopefully Donald Butler our inside linebacker will have keller and on any sort of blitzes by butler up the middle we will use Steve Gregory who is a little stronger than weddle on keller.
Was it Weddle that Greene trucked for the TD? Let's hit him again. I'm trying to block out that it was Cro who didn't bother lifting his hands until it was too late on that play.
The key to the game could likely be turnovers. SD is throwing too many INT's despite being 4-1. But... they have a running game this year, and the Jets have played poor run D. I seem to recollect that their top receiver had no receptions against Revis last time. If they have discipline I think they don't challenge him again, but will egos get in the way? I can't imagine looking at game film from Miami or even the Dallas game and thinking that it paid off to throw at Revis. But they might, anyway. Probably SD needs a balanced game on O, with no turnovers and avoiding Revis. If they can do that, and put pressure on Sanchez, they should win. So the Jets in order to win need to force SD to pass, risk turnovers and hopefully get some. If the Jets get two, I see them winning, or alternatively if they pull a rabbit out of the hat and show up with a decent run D. On O, obviously Sanchez has to keep up his recent streak of no INT's, and getting some run production of their own.
It's a take off on the phrase "Cathargo delenda est" or the fuller form "Ceterum autem censeo, Carthaginem esse delendam" meaning in brief Carthage must be destroyed. Cato the Elder used to end his political speeches with this regardless of the topic. Ultimately it refers to total war; the Romans used it when they destroyed Carthage and sold its population into slavery. There are still some public schools in the US where you can learn this. http://www.bls.org/podium/default.aspx?t=113646
Should be a good game. Hopefully SD having to travel to the east coast for an early game will have them starting off flat, like the Jets offense usally does. Regardless of what Tomlinson may or may not say to the media, he's always been a very humble man, but he couldn't look me in the eyes and tell me that he doesn't have a burning desire to perform well against his former team. He may be an aging back, but we could end up seeing the best of Tomlinson as a Jet later on today. Glad to see him get the start.
