This is a problem that I have noticed as well. We need better flow on offense. get the plays to Sanchez, and have him get the guys to the line quickly.

The problem with your post is Ryan wants them running on first down.

I for one am very surprised that we haven’t seen much of a 6th linemen set this year. Over the past two years we have brought in Turner and or Hunter to add some beef upfront and really generate a push for the Ground and Pound. I don’t think I have seen it at all this year. I think we all agree that Vlad is a liability in the passing game; but wasn’t his reputation a mauling blocker? Yet another example of the ass clown OC we have not taking full advantage of what he has for personnel. Yet he will use Mulligan in place of who undoubtedly will either jump off sides or hold…

It's not the direction that is wrong. It's the way they conduct the offense that is wrong.

What he is doing is a simple head count - and he clearly shows why the plays Schottenheimer calls on most 1st downs are doomed to failure even before the play starts. Then on top of that Jets have an OC that will call an off-tackle run to the left side without any blocking help. (That is what I call suicide attempt.)

    Go figure.

Extra lineman + lead blocking fullback might spell better production from the ground.

Obviously somebody up there doesn't quite agree with that sentiment however.

I think the problem lies with the FO. Its not like they didn't see this happening. Its been a few years since the FO decided to break up what was perhaps the best OL in the league by letting Fanseca go. Whether it was the right one is debatable. What isn't debatable is how the Jets went about replacing him and Woody, and the lack of depth behind them.

Now the fact is that the Jets have had to replace only ONE player off a pretty good OL last season, and suddenly they are in disarray. What's up with that? In the meantime the Pats have had to replace 3/5ths of their OL and have done it seamlessly.

Hunter - Woody was a great run blocker, Hunter isn't close, though it looks like his pass blocking has improved over the last 2 weeks

Moore - Always very under rated, Moore has a great rep. However if what I've read on this thread concerning his play is true, Jet fans should be worried

Mangold - the Gold Standard of C's

Slauson - our version of Dan Connolly. He's a guy who's a serviceable NFL starter, but also someone who you are always looking to upgrade. In other words a better back up than starter (Though Connolly has surprisingly looked better at C than he did at G)

Brick - A superb pass blocker, but no on will compare him with Matt Light in the run game, just like no one will compare Light with Fergerson in the pass game.

Keller - He willing, but he's NOT a run blocker like the Gronk

This is not a scary run blocking OL plain and simple. But what has to be very scary to the staff is what would happen if any of these guys ever got injured long term. You only saw the tip of the iceberg when Mangold when down, and Hunter was dinged for a few plays. IT WAS UGLY

This is all on the FO. Brian Waters has been better than anyone could expect. He was an end of TC pick up. The Jets could have had him just as well. I'm sure there were a number of FAs that would have been better than having to play an UDFA against the Ravens

If the Jets identity is to establish the run, then run play action pass off it, then its time to change your identity

So basically you're saying that a good offensive line has become mediocre over a period of a couple of seasons due to lack of attention to maintaining it by the FO. I don't think very many people disagree with you there.

Having Ducasse turn into a stiff was a huge part of the problem. If Ducasse is good to go as an acceptable NFL RT we're still in business this season. If he was good we're probably still one of top 5 lines.

Frankly though, I just cannot comprehend the miscues along the OL management from this FO. They already had one major hiccup already, which dramatically shortened Pennington's career. Haven't they learned their lessons yet? Isn't it about time? I was thinking Jets would spend at least 1 pick on OL each draft. Instead they drafted ONE guy (That stiff without his own shadow - he can't even block the sun if his life depended on it) during the past 5 years. No wonder this OL is in such a disarray.

Who knows? As long as this team is winning, fans shouldn't question anything. I thought they looked dominant against Miami. Made a lot of great defensive plays as well as special teams plays.
