1st and 10, Plax is up top 1-1 with NO safety help, and we run the ball?! I mean, is this not why Plax is here for these exact situations? This to me is on Sanchez, he should be audibling out of the run and throwing a fade right here. I mean the thought is that Plax is doubled almost all game long, blah blah blah, and here you have this GOLDEN opportunity and we run the ball. This is frustrating, this offense is misfiring on all cylinders right now, and the excuses are always that the defense should get credit for taking things away from us, well, that's not always true.
I thought two week ago it was said that the Jets dont want Sanchez changing up plays anymore. If true, that probably why he didnt audible.
We have thrown 0 passes to Plax in the red zone this year they said during the last game. That is ridiculous.
He's a QB if he can't change it to the best play aviliable then whats he good for? Honestly that's soft and says something on him
You know the term armchair quarterback? Or 20-20 hindsight? Or that they scored a TD on this series of plays? All three apply here.
Sanchez sucks at throwing the fade and Sean Smith is 6'3 and good at defending it. That can't be true.
he doesnt suck throwing the fade. It did it a lot last year with Holmes and he threw one under pressure nicely to Burress in the preseason.
 at sanchez being bad at throwing the fade He hit Holmes 3 times for game winning TDs on it and Edwards also.
Yes. What does that have to do with this. And once again, what does that have to do with it? We lost 3 yards on this run play, was that part of the master plan to score a TD on this drive? Actually none apply here. That's the one throw Sanchez is really good at, have you watched this team play last season? Also, Plax is 6'6, so do we need to bust out the calculator on this one? Seriously, how can anyone dispute this. THIS is why Plax is here! Red Zone! 1-1 Coverage!! If we can't throw to him in THIS situation, then when can we? And I see Sanchez yelling "KILL KILL KILL" on almost every other play, so he clearly has the power to change the play. This to me screams lack of confidence in either himself or Plax.
I don't know what responsibilities Sanchez has anymore in terms of his ability to audible, so I can't really blame him. I'd put more blame on Schottenheimer. Plax was brought in to throw to him in the red zone Ideally, that would be a spot to throw to Plax. 1-on-1 with no safety help is exactly what Plax was brought in for, you would think we'd try to take advantage of that. We definitely have thrown to him in the redzone before though. I remember in the Jacksonville game, they tried to get him a touchdown. That didn't work.
I'm talking of a jump ball fade, rather than the Holmes touchdowns. He's gotten better in both areas, but the screen pass and fade are two throws Sanchez is still not completely comfortable with.
What... If there is no safety help (as in the picture) there are a number of ways you can attack the red zone with a physical WR like Burress. 1. The easiest of all is the fade route. 2. Backside shoulder throw 3. Post (or slant) 4. Sluggo. Sanchez is also good at throwing fade. (Sanchez sucks at throwing fade? How do you think Sanchez pulled the TD pass at the tail end of the game against Texans last year? Or Braylon TD pass against the Patriots? Or Keller TD pass on a fade?)
Man, you just can't win in NY. Guy has a winning record and is clearly still working on his game to get his team to the top...before you know it we're entertaining what picks we can get for the guy and examining what he should have done on this play and that play. I for one appreciate the QB of my team. I don't care if he's ever "elite" or not, as long as he wins. Hopefully, there are a few SBs in there as wins.
False. False. There are two underlying issues with Plaxico Burress: 1) Sanchez isn't comfortable with him. 2) Plaxico isn't that good. In the green-glassed "Braylon vs. Plax" debate, the one comment I really took issue with was "Plaxico is a better route runner than Braylon." I can't remember which posters said it, but it seemed like a pretty pervasive opinion that Braylon was a poor route-runner. I'm not sure why people thought that. Is he a poor route runner compared to Jerry Rice or Wes Welker or Torry Holt? Sure, but he was actually a highly competent route runner. Crisp breaks, beat the jam well, got open efficiently. Plaxico, on the other hand, is a very lazy route runner. Always has been. He's always relied on his size and athleticism to get "open," and right now he only has size. We can't properly evaluate the Plax-Sanch connection yet because most reasonable fans knew that this wasn't a match-up that was going to pay off in October; it was a rapport that would develop and pay off in December and January. I hope that remains the case, although it's disheartening to see Plaxico disinterested and dropping balls or making weak efforts at the incompletions thrown his way. Either way, the notion that Plaxico isn't being utilized properly is a little premature. I see poor play from him right now. I see no reason for Mark Sanchez to zero in on Plax in scoring situations. I hope that changes as the season progresses.
You are wrong. I rewatched this game today. This was first down, they ran Greene. Second down, shovel pass to LT. Would have scored, LT tripped. Third down, QB draw, touchdown. Very likely not a called play, Sanchez saw the space and took it. BFD. We scored on third down and protected the ball instead of going for fucking style points.
