Tanny should make it happen in 2013 I would take Revis and Wilson as our corners, Mathieu at FS and Barron(2012 Rd 2) at SS. Now thats a deadly Secondary Yeah cut or trade Cromartie as Mathieu would be our new play maker from the spot we need it at while Revis and Wilson shut down the opposing WR and Barron handles TE's Oh and our nickle CB Brandon Boykin(2012 Rd 6) solid CB with 4.4 speed Rex would love him
This vid was much more impressive. He's a playmaker for sure. I still don't like his tackling though.
He did have a bad whiff against Florida, he dove for Trey Burton's legs and Burton literally jumped 5 feet over him ala Brian Leonard...
For those of you who doubt Honey Badger...Honey Badger doesnt give a shit Mathieu is such a beast. His play speaks for itself. Just another note, as true sophomore defensive back, he has already broken the LSU recorded for forced fumbles with 9, the NCAA record is 14. So its not out of the question. As far as his tackling skills go, there are the rare occasions he uses bad technique but nothing to be concerned about. The guy plays with such a chip on his shoulder. He came to an LSU football camp in high school and he shut down some of the best receivers in his class. At the time LSU was the only big time program to offer him a scholarship. The Honey Badger nickname sounds lame until you watch the original honey badger youtube clip, in which case it makes more sense.
I just hope we draft him and make him an Ed Reed type FS kid is a true ball hawk in every sense of the word
Wow, that's high praise. Eric Berry was drafted #5. I don't agree! How often is a Defensive back a Top 4 player?? Hardly ever!! I'll temper my opinion on a 19 year old kid that is only 5'9" and 175 LBs soaking wet, that he's going to be drafted higher than Berry. I'm willing to bet the ranch he won't be picked in the Top 4. While Mathieu is a playmaker and an incredible talent, let's remember he's a kid and still has planty of College Football ahead of him. The NFL, for better or worse, takes into account a player's size. Mathieu's most impressive asset is his heart, he uses his physical talent to the limit because of his desire to to the best. Unfortunately, the NFL doesn't consider heart/desire as the most important attribute, maybe they should. I'm not knocking the Honey Badger, but to say he will be a top 4 pick 2 years before he gets drafted is unrealistic.
It maybe be unrealistic and I knew that when commenting but too be honest this kids potential and athletics are through the roof. If he stays in college for his next two years and improves and improves I honestly can say some team will fall in love with him. He's got a great head on his shoulders, has a plethora of skill set too his game, already a heisman candidate in his sophmore season, and he will only improve more and more. A lot of teams dont always prefer to pick DBs unless they are sure fire players. I think with time and development, especially if healthy, he will be one of the better players too come out when he does.
I tend to agree with this line of thinking. I mean statistically Patrick Peterson was not as productive at this point in his career as Mathieu is. Peterson is an absolute physical freak which allowed him to be taken early in round one. Mathiu has speed but I he is still a small dude.
Some of you guys are drinking the Kool-Aid. I remember a bunch of guys here a few years back calling Brain Leonard the next great player, can't miss & a Top pick. I'm not here to put down Mathieu's ability, he's awesome. I'm just mentioning a few of you guys are acting like he's the next Reggie Bush coming out of college. Let's step back and just enjoy the next few years of Mathieu's college career and not make snap judgements.
Mathieu is one of three LSU players that will be suspended for this weekend's game against Auburn. As of right now, it's an "inside matter" ...
I remember in an interview he did Mathieu said that he had to visualize making a play...I guess we know how he visualizes
