OK I only read the first two pages. But what the hell people. How green is your cool aid? First off no team would offer 2 number ones for Mark. I dont know where the idea that Sanchez is anything but a mediocre QB comes from around here. In fact, outside the Jets camp pretty much the entire league thinks Sanchez is average - and that is being generous. We have now had 44 regualr season starts for Mark. He has shown almost zero notable improvement. I watched him very closely on Monday night. Even with almost no pass rush he would stare down his receivers 75% of the time. 20% of the time he would do a look off and then immediatly turn and throw to the WR he had predetermined to throw to before he snap....even when they were double covered. The theres the 5% of the time he might actually try and follow his progressions, read the defense, and look for the open man. This usually only happens on a busted play. It come down to this. Mark decides who he is going to throw the ball to before the snap. He doesn't read anything. I am not even sure he can read a defense after the ball is snapped. Other issues that bother me: He has the Jay Cutler desease of looking good one throw and like crap the next (only Cutler is overall better). He has happy feet in the pocket and STILL doesn't secure the ball when theres pressure. ANd his acccuracy is spotty and he plays scared. Is he the worst QB in the league - no. He is somewhere around the lower middle. IMO the fucking guy with 5 starts on crappy ass Miami looked better than Sanchez on Monday night. So what is this idea that he is worth more than two numer 1s? Where do the Mark supports see him improving? What area is of Marks game is "getting better" and providing all this hope for the future?
I only read this much, but what the hell? Some teams would definitely offer us 2 number ones for Mark.
That guy Ryan Leaf was a can't miss hot shot sure thing too. What a career he had. Jeff George and Heath Shuler too. David Carr, Joey Harrington...
Hate to break the news to you but Mark is constantly mentioned in the "biggest busts" catagory these days. In fact, just last Sunday on ESPN. Partly because of his contract but...
Really? I don't know what game you were watching. Sanchez wasn't perfect Monday, but was clearly better than Moore.
Wow, and you're spiraling down even further. Did you honestly just cite ESPN? bahahah It all makes sense now.
@ouchy First of all, Sanchez clearly has improved as an NFL QB over the last three seasons. His completion percentage, yards per attempt and TD percentage are all up, his Int percentage is down. So saying that he has not improved indicates that you are not actually looking at the numbers at all, just spouting off about your opinion of whether or not Sanchez has improved based on your faulty view of his play. The numbers don't lie. Our eyes often do. What I would suggest is that you have an imaginary progression in your mind about where Sanchez should be right now and Sanchez's play does not meet that entirely fictional representation of what it should be. So you see no improvement because you've made up an imaginary place that would represent improvement. In reality his play has improved substantially. His offensive line, running backs and receivers are worse than those he had as a rookie and yet his overall play is up and it is up year over year for three years running. To try to cut through the confusion here about what really has happened with Sanchez over the last few years I'm going to tell a tale of two QB's in one of the biggest games of their lives. One of those QB's went 10 for 19 for 133 yards and 2 Int's. The other went 20 for 33 for 233 yards, 2 TD's and no Int's. The guy who had the much worse day won the game because the opposing defense could not stop the run. The guy who had the much better day lost because his defense could not stop the run. If the Jet's defense could stop the run last year they're in the Super Bowl. Our conversation about Mark Sanchez is completely different at this point and we're all a lot happier. None of that is Sanchez fault. And I do think Ben Roethlisberger is a great QB. He just had a bad game and got picked up by his teammates for the win. Mark Sanchez on the other hand got snuffed by the supposedly better unit on the Jets for the second year in a row.
Sanchez is still very inconsistant but he has had his great moments, particularily in the playoffs. But 2 1st rounds picks? The Jets could do a lot with those picks. Unless people don't think there are critical needs for the Jets that need to be addressed. Oh the Raiders are pretty much walking around in their underwear after the Bengals stripped them clean...
If Carson fucking Palmer, a player who hasn't done shit in years and hasn't even taken a snap this season, can get traded from a team with absolutely NO leverage, off his couch, and get 2 1st round picks then there is no way Sanchez wouldn't.
Numbers dont lie? Numbers lie a lot! Ya I will stick to my on the field evaluations over big number from screen passes to LT. Rewatch mondays game. Watch every pass Mrk attempts. You will see the telegraphed eye lock that he has almost every throw. There is NO WAY he can beat a good defense this way. We are screwed. And...it was the defenses fault we didn't win against Pitt? Huh? DId you see the first half of the game? You admit our D held BR to 133 yards and two INTs. You going to blame them? IMO the second half of the Pitt game was one of Marks best performances. But it still couldn't make up for the first half.
Yes because the OuchyEyeTesttm is the be all, end all of quarterback assessment. Sadly your memory is not as effective as your vision. The defense sucked ass against Pittsburgh, and it was the defense that failed against Indy the year before.
You don't remember the whole team coming out flat that game, and mendenhall running all over the defense? Forget what Ben did, it was about the Steelers running the ball down the Jets throat for the first 30 minutes. Ben didn't play well, but like numbers lying, he made the right throw in important spots when he had to and won the game for Pitt. Yes it was the defenses fault. I've yet to see Sanchez be the reason why the Jets lost a playoff game. 4 wins on the road in January. I don't know how that's dismissed because he still has slow 1st quarters. Do you want Tony Romo instead? I'd rather keep the QB that wins in the 4th quarter, as he showed last season.
@ouchy Let me give you another example: Here are two QB lines to evaluate. Att - 522, Comp - 301, Pct - 57.7, Yards - 3,244, YPA - 6.22, TD - 24, Int -18 Att - 528, Comp - 296, Pct - 56.1, Yards - 3,659, YPA - 6.93, TD - 24, Int -13 Ok, so the first line is Eli Manning's 3rd season with the Giants. The season he won a Super Bowl with them. The second line is where Sanchez is projected to wind up this year given his play so far. Mark Sanchez has made more progress so far in his career than Eli Manning had the year the Giants won it all. It's not even really close to tell you the truth. Sanchez numbers there if they hold up are among the all-time best for a 3rd year starter who started as a rookie. They are JOHN ELWAY good. They are TROY AIKMAN good. Hell, they're better than John Elway and Troy AIkman good and both of those guys were headed to the Super Bowl also.
Ya thats a great arguement for Sanchez. If you cannot evaluate the play of a QB by watching them thats your problem. OK our defense is why we didn't go to the superbowl last year. My mistake.... Cling to that second half in Pitt for the next two seasons guys.
And you cling to the first. You don't acknowledge that he got it together and played amazingly well in the 2nd half. You don't acknowledge that he called the play to set up Folk for the FG the week before. The outright raping of the Cincy bengals in his first ever playoff start. Staying in and getting hit in SD, or rolling out to find keller. No, you have this expectation of him being a top QB in his 3rd year when he's had no help around him for 6 weeks.
Our defense is definitely why we didn't go to the Super Bowl. The Jets gave up 95 yards to Rashard Mendenhall in the first half in the process of giving up 66, 62 and 66 yard drives for scores. The Steelers opened the game with a 16 play drive for a TD.
