What a stupid statement! The Texans have a really good QB now in Matt Schaub, so they actually know what a good QB plays like, unlike Jets fans who haven't seen a top-notch QB play since Pennington hurt his shoulder back in 2004.

Sanchez's play sucks for a starting QB. Maybe that's on him or maybe it's on your OC or HC and their offensive schemes. It could be a combination of QB AND CS, but certainly the coaches don't trust Sanchez further than they can throw your biggest DT. Sorry, but "game manager" is simply a code phrase for "we really need a better QB".

I disagree about the TE. I think Keller is perfect for Sanchez. Honestly the biggest issue we have is the loss of Braylon. Braylon was a big target that could stretch the field. Tannenbaum made a big mistake letting Braylon go. I just hope he realizes this and puts his pride aside and calls Braylon as soon as FA starts next year.

Sanchez is NOT a game manager. I'm not sure how that label could possibly be applied to him.

I like Schaub, but let's not get crazy with the "really good QB" statements.

BINGO.....for the $$$ we spend on Burress we could have brought back Edwards.

    Why would you change 2/3rds of your Top 3 WR's in a lockout-year ???

Honestly - and I love Rex and Tannenbaum - I personally think they read to many newspaper articles saying how good they are and thought they could just plug in anyone. there's really no logical explanation why we would get rid of Braylon (unless it was to promote Jerricho - which it obviously wasn't). Sanchez had really good chemistry with Braylon too and Braylon opened up the middle for Santonio. Braylon has been a big loss this year.

Reading this is like reading the Bills MB from a 2-3 years ago when Trent "Trentative" Edwards was our starting QB and Dick "Play Not to Lose by Too Much" Jauron was the HC. It's "deja vue all over again", as Casey Stengel said, right down to the alleged origin of the QB's poor play (ie, getting sacked too much, bad OL play, etc, etc).

Trent Edwards was an entirely different QB from Sanchez. He truly DID fit the mold as a game manager with his style of play, which was funny since that wasn't really his mold in college. His completion percentage was solid, but he was never much of a threat throwing the ball. Sanchez absolutely is, he just can't find a solid rhythm thus far. It's frustrating, but he's flashed ability on a level Edwards never did.

I'm not saying he's Trent Edwards 2.0, but the complaints about his play are just so similar to what Bills fans were saying about Edwards that it's eerie. Edwards problems stemmed from his reluctance to take risks. I don't think Sanchez is afraid to throw downfield like Edwards was, but I think he may be limited because the offense the Jets are running doesn't stretch the field. It may also be that Sanchez can't read defenses well enough to find the open receivers.

I heard Steve Young say it best last night. This offense just isnt in sync. They dont throw the ball with purpose down the field. It just doesnt look as fluid as the other offenses in the league. I mean last night we did show some signs of life, but against a good team we would get ripped, just like what happened in Baltimore. We need to get our asses in gear real quick here. I think the OL played great last night but we still couldnt move the ball for most of the game. So obviously its the QB or OC.. Shonn Greene has not been impressive at all either... and lets face it, Sanchez will never be an elite QB so we need to have a running game for him to be able to pass efficiently.. The reason we were successful the last 2 years is bc of our running game. We really need to start pounding it down teams throats again...

Schaub is rated #11 this year, ahead of both Roethlisberger and Rivers, not to mention Sanchez (#20). I believe he was in the Top 10 for the entire year last season, so yeah, I would say he's a "really good QB". More importantly, he's a team leader and puts his team in position to win games, even if his team's defense let the offense down.

I don't use the phrase only with first round draft picks or big names but with any QB who is playing well. Matt Schaub and Ryan Fitzpatrick are both "really good QBs" because they play like "really good QBs". They have both been playing better than some big names guys like Cutler, Ryan, Flacco, and Sanchez, so they qualify as being "really good QBs".

I agree, and you can add in that they misfired with Mason and Burress as well.

QB Rating is a terrible stat that too many people use to judge QBs. It's way too heavily based on completion percentage and doesn't factor in game situations. Using that stat to model your argument of who is a "really good QB" and who isn't is really silly.

I agree, primarily because it ...
    • penalizes QBs who throw hail marys at the end of halves or games and have them intercepted
    • doesn't penalize Pick 6s more than an ordinary INT
    • doesn't factor in sacks
    • doesn't give credit for QBs who throw balls away so they aren't sacked or intercepted

That said, it's the most objective measure there is. The ESPN rating is based on a lot of subjective calls as to what is a drop, what is a crucial situation, etc.

If you want to talk subjective, then Schaub also passes the "eye test": he's shown he can lead a team and he makes plays. Sanchez hasn't proven that he can do that, which is what he needs to do to be considered a good QB in this league. He needs to be able to get the ball into the EZ with some regularity, and he's not doing that yet. The Jets Red Zone offense smells. That might be on Sanchez, but it could also be on the coaching staff. The QB has to play within the limits of the plays in the offensive scheme.

Finally, the Jets FO did the Jets offense, and especially Sanchez, no favors by swapping out Cotchery and Edwards for Mason and Burress. I'd call that the stupidest move of the season, but the Raiders may have nailed down that award for the next two decades by trading a first and a conditional pick between 1st and 3rd for Carson Palmer. That is simply too stupid to be true.

Something had to be going on behind the scenes, it just doesn't make sense otherwise.

Anybody notice that no Jet commentators are saying how good Burress is doing downfield blocking ?

Really ? I thought Sanchez had won 4 road playoff games....including a last-second upset of Peyton Manning's Colts...a clutch win over a 12-win San Diego team.....and an upset of Tom Brady in NE.

Tell me Sanchez' QB rating in the 4th Quarter vs. all these other guys who are supposedly better. Like Henne -- great 1st 3 quarters, sucks in 4th.

You just compared a shit QB who never had it to a QB who has won 4 playoff games on the road and outplayed HOFers.

    Try again.

    Agreed.

Aaron Rodgers had a shit QB Rating against the Jets last year, but it was one of the best games I've ever seen from a QB.

QB Rating doesn't tell me anything.

Sanchez had a 95 rating against the Fins, but he didn't play like a 95 rating for an entire quarter. I hate QB ratings.
