I think I speak for most of us when I say that I'm not convinced Shonn Greene is the answer for the next few years.

Forte and Hillis are reportedly on the trading block.

Ignoring what it would do to our locker room's psyche, what would you give up for one of these guys? Shonn Greene and ______?

I wouldn't give up any draft picks, that's for sure.

We have other holes to fill on this team (OL, LB, S, and WR) next offseason. We can't give up picks for a position we have considerable depth in already.

Why trade a draft pick for the easiest position to replace?

Greene and a 7th (for mason?) for Forte. Hillis I think was a 1 year wonder. he won't ever be an elite back. Forte has proven he is. but like you said, never happen, plus we'd have to pay Forte a boatload of money.

what's wrong with the quality of our HB depth?

McKnight is starting to scratch the surface of his potential, and B.Powell hasn't been given a chance yet.

Forte is a quality back. Chicago is not going to trade him for Shonn Green plus. They're going to be looking for David Harris or Mo Wilkerson or a high draft pick in the deal. Not going to happen.

McKnight will replace LT as our 3rd down back. I see it as replacing Shonn Greene, our mediocre #1 back, with an elite RB like Forte.

Taking a look at our draft history and the kind of players we've gotten in the later rounds, I would go as high as Greene + a 5th for Forte.

he's 3rd on the HB depth chart....when called upon, I'm sure he'll respond.

    that's how depth works.

    then you're not getting forte.

this isnt madden. theyre not gonna take our underachieving rb and a mid/late round pick for a top 10 RB in the league.

    jesus h christ.

There is zero chance that Chicago trades Forte for Greene in any reasonable configuration. It would take Greene and a first round pick to get Forte, in what would be an unreasonable deal for the Jets to actually make.

Given Mike Tannenbaum's known proclivities it makes more sense to think the Jets might trade their first next year for Forte, and that would be a bad deal as well because Forte isn't going to run behind the Jets line all that much better than Greene is. He's a much better all around player but a mediocre line creates limits.

Martz runs a high octane pass-happy offense that includes the HB. Why the fuck would Forte okay a trade to the Jets where his talent would be under-utilized by Schotty?

Forte: "So, if I'm going to start for the Jets, what kind of run plays can I expect to be called?

Schotty: "I hope you like running up the middle"

    Forte: *hangs up phone*

If the Jets trade for a runningback, I lose a lot of faith in Tannenbaum. It's not happening.

We've invested 3 picks in the 4th round or higher in the last 3 years, and we still can't run the ball. If we give up on Powell/Greene/McKnight, and we give up another draft pick for a runningback who will be an FA and wants a big contract, we're nuts.

It won't happen. On paper, it would be nice, but it's not happening.

And if Chicago trades Forte, they're lawst.

I'm sure I'm lowballing the offer, but probably not as severely as you think. If the Bears are willing to trade Forte, it's because they don't want to pay him top dollar, play the franchise-tag game, or risk a prolonged hold-out. Marshall Faulk, in his prime, was traded for a 2nd and 5th.
