The sad thing is....Hue Jackson used his Cincy connection to convince Mike Brown to make this trade. Hue: "C'mon Mike, c'moooooooooon. please please please please PLEEEEASE!!!" Mike Brown: "ohh..I don't know" Hue: "We'll give you our first rounder, and if he's any good this year, we'll give you another 1st rounder". Mike Brown: "Ohhhh, allllright. You twisted my arm"
The only reason I think they went so high for Palmer is that hue Jackson spent 2 or 3 season with him in Cincy and thinks Carson can step in and be productive in his offense right away. If the terminology is extremely similar this may be the raiders best bet to keep this season on track. If not they jsut set them selves back yet again while waiting for Pryor to become a full time QB, or having to look elsewhere in a year or two.
Well, I take back everything I said about Mike Brown. I think Palmer will do well there, he's got a better line(not great, but not cinci), insane running attack and some good wr. 2 first is a huge OP, but still.
The Raiders are 4-2. Just getting to the playoffs would be a huge accomplishment for them. And apparently, they will sell out for the chance. Palmer was pretty bad the past couple years, but a change of scenary to where he used to play college ball, could help him. I think he is an upgrade over Campbell. 2 1st Rounders worthy of an upgrade? No.
I can see their justification in the trade, after Luck there dosent appear to be any "sure-fire" (as sure-fire as a #1 qb can be) QBs coming out, and they obviously needed a good qb. fuck it.
Hue Jackson was the WR coach at the Bengals from 2004 to 2006 and so should know Palmer well so it may not be too crazy to suggest that Palmer may be able to pick up the system a bit quicker than would otherwise be the case and you have to think Jackson had a hand in this move. Still seems a really crazy move though.
Damn, if Dalton becomes a good QB, the Bengals will be dangerous. 2 mid-1sts next year will help an already young team become even better.
We can dispense with the false media story of Al Davis dying. Clearly, he's still alive and kicking. This deal is right out of the Al Davis playbook. Or maybe it was in his will?
Apparently they learned their lesson. You know it's a bad deal when you make Mike Brown look like a genius.
How does Oakland think this is a good idea? The condition for the 2013 pick turning into a first better be them winning the Superbowl. They are a young team that has been gradually improving every year the past couple years... why go all-in right now instead of sticking with a formula that has been working?? I feel like McNabb in 2010 seemed worth more than Palmer is now in the middle of a season, and Philidelphia only got a 2nd for him. Maybe I'm just really bad at evaluating QB value? (I thought McNabb was worth way more than a 2nd, turns out that wasn't so true) Or maybe Al Davis wasn't really the problem in Oakland the past decade.
The Raiders (like the Yankees or Cowboys) are a national brand - and they have severely damaged that brand by losing. A franchise like that needs to make this kind of win now trade because they stand to profit ($$$) a lot from it.
The condition for the 2013 pick going from a 2nd to a 1st is winning a single playoff game this year...
the price is quite high, but!! given that the Raiders has obviously turned the corner, and are a real contender in that division. It seems they had no choice but to make the move, Boller does not look like he can keep them relevant, and Pryor, well, we will just have to wait and see. I for one am pulling for both Palmer and the Raiders..
The Raiders have already traded away their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks for next year as well. Their first pick in next years draft will be in the 5th round. Looks like their scouting and draft department won't have much work to do over the next year.
