I understand everyone's happy that we won tonight but lets not get carried away we beat a team who is in shambles. And if it wasn't for Marshall not being able to catch a ball if his life depended on it and Reggie Bush getting injured this game could have went in a total different direction. This upcoming week is going to be a huge challenge for us as a defense. Reggie Bush tore us up in the first half and you need to expect the Chargers to come out with the same game plan running with Ryan Matthews. If we can't figure out a way to seal the edge on Westerman's side we are going to be in alot of trouble. Antonio Gates is expected to come back this week as well. Discuss.
Gonna be tough. Not expecting Gates to be near 100%, but who knows, he might play this week, and he's always a threat if he's out there. Revis will be all over Vincent Jackson. The other WRs don't scare me. What does scare me is the running game. Mathews has been a lot better this year and is showing why he was drafted high. Tolbert is a good compliment if he's healthy, which I assume he is. What also scares me is the Jets' offense. Lord help us.
San Diego is good, but clearly beatable. My early thoughts are Jets win. Being at home and 1:00 should help too.
bolded part is what comes to mind about the jets. that was a suck for luck contestant we played last night and it took half the game to get the confidence the jets could beat them. san diego will put up points where the dulphins couldn't. if the jets don't get off to a better start, it will be the jets that look all too beatable. jets offense still looks like crap!
I Hope you are right but i do not know where your optimism is coming from. our offense is one of the worst in the league, our qb is outright poor and out of sync. I really hope they can continue to progress but it is too early for a win against the chargers.
I've watched San Diego a good bit on NFL sunday ticket...... and they haven't been impressive. They have a running game now, which is big, but they've barely beat a bunch of teams with crappy records. the combined record of the teams they've beaten is 4-17 with an average margin of victory of 6 points
This is a winnable game, but our offense will have to show up for more than 3 quarters if we're going to have a chance.
That is what I am worried about as well. A win is a win, and we all know this team certainly needed a victory against an 0-4 division rival. But I am just worried that there will be a sense that everything is all better again after a 24-6 win. Hopefully the coaching staff realizes that despite the final score, the offense still only accounted for 17 points and continues to go very long stretches where it looks incapable of doing anything at all. This is an issue that can be overcome against a junior varsity team like the fish, but not against an NFL team. Let's not forget that we could have very well been down 10-0 before the end of the first quarter if not for Revis and an admittedly lenient non interference call to finally get things going. Still, this win is definitely something to build on, but I am under no illusions that everything is all better again.
Not gonna beat a quality team by not getting a first down for 20+ minutes. No matter how good the D is. Need some early offense!!!!
The combined record of the teams the Jets have beaten is 3 & 14 and we haven't been impressive. I like our chances but our safety play is a huge concern against the Chargers.
1. Their WRs are tall...really tall....and Revis is short.....BOOM!!! 2. SD is going to score points...if our O doesnt put up at least 21 we are not going to have chance at winning. 3. If Gates is back thats going to be a problem. Eric Smith cant cover anyone. 4. Our run D still looks like shit. If they run the ball on us and Rivers can get the play action working it'll make things that much harder. 5. Vincent Jackson is really really tall
Had Phil Rivers been playing like last year, this would be a big loss but Rivers has not looked anywhere near as good as he has over the years thus far. He's been picked off a few too many times, has been harassed down to the ground and the Bolts have made it a priority to establish a running game rather than have Rivers do his best Brady reenactment. That being said, if the Jets keep blowing defensive assignments, Rivers is going to destroy them. Likewise the Jets HAVE to generate pressure on Rivers. Calvin Pace needs to be a man among boys in this game and really fly after Rivers and force Tolbert to try and pick Pace up, and allow Westermann or David Harris to run after Rivers. Rivers does not like pressure and doesn't have the scrambling ability to make improv. plays or buy enough time for his targets down the field to get open if on the run. Rivers is kind of cocky enough to not be intimidated by Revis but I really think Antonio Cromartie is going to bring his A game here. This is the game he's waited practically over a year for to play. I am seeing a Cromartie INT in the red zone, and him taking it back for a big gain, possibly to midfield. The Bolts D(Who I have in fantasy) has been a massive disappointment compared to last year, due to Ron Rivera leaving for Carolina and some other personnel changes. I think the Jets O-Line can dictate this battle and that Sanchez can to target guys like Kerley on 7-10 yard slants and keep the chains moving. Eric Weddle is probably their big play maker in the secondary and will be a concern if you want to hookup with Keller The timezone issue won't be a problem since SD is coming off a BYE.....boy back to back teams come off a BYE week vs the Jets. Who made that goof? I will take the Jets in this game though in what should be a really great game, possibly one that goes into overtime. San Diego doesn't have the ability to finish teams off in the game, as shown by both the Chiefs and Broncos the past few weeks. The Jets are much more talented than either team that if the Bolts do. SD has some pretty good big boys up front where I think Sanchez and the passing attack needs to be on point. Oh and of course.....Nick Novak's question mark of getting touchbacks will be HUGE. They might try and do what Dan Carpenter did and do short kickoffs but if they don't time it right, McKnight may gash a very vulnerable special teams unit. Don't be surprised if Jeremy Kerley rips off a massive punt off Scifles who kicks it far and is one of the best at aiming his punts but sometimes won't put enough hangtime on his punts. May be Kerley's day to get his 1st career punt return TD.
well i am sure the bolts and their fans are saying that we are clearly beatable as well. couple things that work for us here - east coast time zone and rivers not being to graceful on his feet. gotta say this is a huge swing game. a W puts us very much back in it but a L, imo, just about seals the deal for the year.

I fell confident because they are coming off of a bye. Teams coming off one now have been sloppy due to the 4 mandatory days off bull. Also, I hope that we get Maybin in there some more. Schotty's trick plays have to go.
