I was thinking of getting a bit of Jets memoribilia - nothing too fancy. Does anyone know a decent (and most importantly genuine) retailer? I have looked on ebay and there are plenty of sellers with very high feedback and sales figures but its just so hard to tell if what they are selling is real. Are there any retailers that anyone knows definitely get the players in to sign. Of course the other problem is trying to decide who to get. Trouble with being a Jets fan is we dont have too many winners on our books (and Namath (the one winning player that there are a lot of items for) has really irritated me with his recent comments).
yes..... i'd rather risk buying some bogus shit off ebay for a minute FRACTION off the price. would it really kill you if the autograph was really signed by Klecko or not? as long as it looks cool hanging by my bar
NFL Auctions has some good stuff - sometimes you can get a pretty good steal because of the auction format. http://www.nflauction.nfl.com/
Depends on what you are looking for. If it authenticity, and you're not going to be present for the signing,i would pay for Steiner. If it's just the picture that looks like it was signed, but may or not be,you can just go to Ebay. Check the site for Last Licks store in Huntington or massapequa NY. I have been there during Sack Exchange, reggie jackson, pennington,Bob Gibson/Musial, and a few others. After they are done signing for the people, they usually do a shit load for the store, and after a while if they aren't sold i'll bet the look to unload them and they are all steiner.
Thanks for the replies. I looked at Steiner but as well as being very expensive their range is pretty limited - if you dont want somethnig signed by Namaoth or Pennington they dont really have too much. You can though buy a football signed by Vernon Gholston for $200 on there!!! NFL auctions are good and I have looked at a few things but its a bit like ebay - you need to be there for when the auctions close which is typically around 4am my time and something good enough to get my ass out of bed at that time would be too good for me to be able to afford I guess I will just need to look for hiigh rep sellers on ebay. Felt sorry for one seller, he had 99.9% positive feedback and 1 negative rating as the guy was complaining that the "replica" signed jersey he bought was not a real (i.e. authentic) jersel lol
Honestly look on Ebay for anything authenticated by companies like Panini, Upper Deck, PSA DNA (My personal favorite), James Spence (JSA), and Global Authentics. Most "Dealers" get their authentication done by these companies and they are all pretty reputable. You will find good deals. If you are looking for higher end Jets stuff there really isn't much out there. I have several hundred signed Jets items and most of them were from places where I have gotten the players to sign them in person (Camp, Draft Day Parties, In Store signings, etc etc). Personally I think it's better to get something signed on your own than to pay someone but then again sometimes that can't happen.
The only problem with that stuff is it is still someone giving their opinion on an items authenticity. Steiner actually holds the signings and only sells what was signed at their event.
I also know Steiner buys and sells. forged autographs. I once saw a kid sign a Jose Reyes baseball, walk into a Steiner store, and sell it to them (I do not know this person, was just a witness to the whole thing). Complete fucking asshole for doing it but I had to see it to believe it after a friend told me the story (about how this kid goes in once a week and sells them a ball). I know some people might think it's BS but I'm sure 100 other collectors could tell you similar stories regarding not only Steiner but all the above companies I mentioned. There is no 100 percent sure way to know if Mark Sanchez signed something or some intern did. Not all the items in their (Steiner) warehouse are from their own in house signings. They do buy from outside dealers and have their own authenticators. Yes a lot of their inventory is from their own signings, but some isn't. Most autographs aren't worth that much money to begin with. If something is too cheap, be weary, if it seems too much be weary. Use caution, and do some homework. Long story short, get it signed in person, and you will not only have a good item to hang on the wall or put on the mantle but you will have a story to go along with it too. (Sanchez is a dick)
I would prefer to do that but as I am in the UK its not really an option (unless the Jets come to play in London, which is very unlikely).
Instead of autographs, which are expensive and have those annoying holograms and other markings, I've been buying sports photos off EBay, putting them in cheap frames, and hanging them in my Man Cave. It's just as much fun to look at and you can fill up a wall in a hurry cheaply. Quantity over quality. I just ordered 10 Jets/Mets/Knicks sports photos from the same seller for $36 shipped. The key is to find a seller with a lot of great photos and then order a bunch at a time as they will give you a big discount on the shipping.
josportsco.com Has game worn shit that is really expensive but for the true fan a must have for your collection. There are local shops around here that come with the certificates of authenticity. Check their site, http://www.globalauthentics.com/ They have a online database that will match the number to the exact item being sold.
Yeah, basically, but in reality, I just never understood the fascination with autographs.... maybe If it was on a really cool item (say a 68-69 team ball, or a "game used" jersey) I'd want to be sure if it was genuine authentic, but otherwise........ This. A few years ago my mom wanted to make their TV room a "sports" room for my dad as a B-day/retirement gift. She asked me to help. I found a bunch of cool / classic sports photos on ebay (mostly JETS). We got basic cheap frames, but spray painted them all the same black color to match. Came out cool, and not too expensive..... if the autographs are real, even better  :jets:
