Cotchery is not a big deal but I wanted Braylon back from the start.

I didn't like it but we'd have similar problems, the problems are all about the OL.

Joe Walton had 2 years where the Jets were arguably better than the Jets teams of the last 2 years despite their playoff failures. Of course the team went into a tailspin after the 85 and 86 seasons. In many ways we had more overall balance than this team has had in the last 2 years. When you don't get over the hump teams very often start going down hill.

It cannot be argued that any Walton team was better than either of the teams thelast 2 years. The AFC stunk in those days and we won one playoff game in those 2 years under Walton.

Funny how many chastised the original post yet a majority on here actually echo a similar sentiment.

I thought your OP was way too extreme, really out there. But so were some of the posts taking the contrary position. As is so often the case in life, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Personally I do have real skepticism about Tanny's performance of late. I am also waiting to see what kind of job Ryan does the rest of this year with what to me is clearly a less talented team than was expected. And there is that issue of whether Ryan's overall strategic approach might be at least somewhat outmoded.

But I have not come close to your perspective on him. At the same time those who ripped you sounded like a bunch of rose colored glasses wearing homers.

The 86 team was arguably more talented (when healthy) than either the 2009 or 2010 team but lacked the mental toughness that Rex's teams have displayed. As a result, Rex's teams were/are better.

I think our best team since Superbowl 3 was probably the 98 team, even though I don't think that team was as physically talented as any one of the other three squads to make the AFC Championship game (2009, 2010, or 1986). The point being, the quality of a team is ultimately derived from a lot more than just its inherent talent.

I don't think it is arguable, our '09 or '10 teams were more talented than the '85 or '86 teams.

The season is not ove yet, this team has not written their story. Herm's team was 1-3 and won the division. We could still win the Super Bowl and all the players you ragged on could be a big part of that. We just have to win the next 2 and get to the bye 4-3 and if we are lucky, the Pats and Bills lose one before we meet them next. Its only WEEK 6!!!!!

Herm's '02 team won the division at 9-7. 9-7 likely doesn't even get a wildcard this year and almost certainly not for the Jets given their losses in the conference thus far.

I came round to your point of view after I saw the insane numbers Cotch is putting up in Pittsburgh. 0/0/0.

Rex's BIGGEST mistake was taking Scott over Ray Lewis......and he knows it.

This is pretty much the perfect response to that post.

Interesting. I'm only old enough to remember from the start of the 1994 season onwards (I'm only 26). How would you compare the the 2009-2010 teams to the 1998 team? (The 1998 team is my all-time favorite Jets team - I was only 12 and I always considered them magical)

And how would you compare the 1982-1983 team to all of the aforementioned ones (I forget to mention them before - my father constantly tells me they were the most talented Jets team since 69)

No so sure about 82-83 but 85 was a great team. 3 AFC East teams made the playoffs and we had a disappointing WC loss to the Pats. Hector getting stripped on a KO for a TD was killer.

Happily as we all know the Bears embarrassed the Pats in the SB.

the 1998 team was magical and it was a great ride. That team was probably better than the two we have just had

'98 we had a much better offense, we could do it all and Vinny had the best individual season for a QB in Jets history. he was amazing that year. Curtis wasn't his usual self but still gave us the threat of a running game. key and Chrebet were an amazing duo, Ward was a nice deep threat as D's worried about the other two. The only thing that O lacked was a Keller like TE.

defensively we did it w/ scheme more than talent. We didn't have a Revis on the '98 team but we had Belichick and Parcells. We had Mo at his peak who was pretty darn good but no one Revis like.

STs wise we were better in 09-10 as well.

As far as the '82 team, Sanchez is better than Richard Todd was. The season was shortened and Freeman didn't get hurt, a healthy McNeil is probably the best pure runner this franchise has ever had. We had better WRs the last 2 years, both OLs were very strong.

defensively the '82 team could get after the QB though Klecko got hurt. Give our D now the '81-'82 DL and we'd be unstoppable.
