2 things we know ain't gonna happen. Holmes ain't gonna shut up because that's not his style AND: He's not gonna get traded for a 7th round pick soooo.... Maybe the truth hurts but all this clandestine shit ain't getting it done on the field. Keeping it inhouse ain't translating into better play on the field as we the fans see the same shit week in, week out. Maybe getting this out in the open is the best way to put a light on what's going haywire with the 2011 Jets. I know Tanny and the CS would love to be able to control the flow of information. I get that. Far too often though, that control is effective in only covering up ineptitude.
yeah, it's only been happening pretty much evrey year since Coughlin has been there but since they lost this week and no one is whining he has a handle on it:up:
I don't have a huge problem with what Holmes said. He put it perfectly: the big guys know that they have to do better. He's not saying anything that everybody in the room doesn't already know. Furthermore, I think that it's a little hypocritical to complain about Holmes talking to the media now after all of the talking that the Jets have done in the past 3 years. If you're going to claim that all the trash talking is OK because "we just have confidence in our team," then I'm not sure it's fair to hate on Holmes for just telling it like it is now that things aren't going so well.
someone alert Tom quickly: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/10/14/offensive-line-complaints-are-trendy-in-new-jersey/
Way to go from one extreme to another. Maybe you don't want Rex to be as boisterous...but would you seriously want a totalitarian like Coughlin. Please. That tune would change real quick
Rex talking his team up and being confident is pretty much the polar opposite of a team "Captain" tearing his teammates down publicly. Does he think the line doesn't know they're having issues? Holmes has 2 costly drops this season, I'm sure Holmes knows he dropped them but you don't hear Brick or Mangold complaining about dropped passes. Talking our team up is fine in public, complaints from players should be kept in-house.
That's all very valid and spot on. But wouldn't you rather have a coach who inspires doing rather than talking? They just reviewed this topic on ESPN2 and the consensus is that running your mouth starts at the top of the Jets team and obviously filters down.
Rex has done that the past 2 years in case you've missed it. We're on a 3 game skid right now, we knockout some wins here and we're right back on track.
typical reaction on this board, kill the messenger ... all he did was reiterate the same comments that he made a few weeks ago, nothing new here i do agree with him that we need to be more vertical in our attack. i also agree that the o-line has to play better ... but there are more than a few teams with worst o-lines than ours and they still manage to take shots down the field if your line cant block well enough with 5, use some max protect and take the occasional shot ... were entering martzian levels of stubbornness with our protection schemes
Holmes was pretty much right, although I think Sanchez is also part of the problem. As for the talking out of school part, I understand how that can be a problem. But it is imo less so if what you say is not only true but more or less obvious. I mean you can make the argument that saying something like "The Jets right now are a 2 and 3 team!" is talking your team down. But at the same time, it is totally obvious. So is saying something like that unacceptable? Of course not.
You cannot point fingers in the locker-room. That always gets out of hand and for the people defending this because it happens on the Giants also, well the Giants are one of the major under-achieving teams of the last few seasons. They haven't been to the playoffs since 2008 and that with Eli Manning at QB and an offense in the top 10 each of the last two seasons. I definitely think their locker-room is one of the reasons they can't pull it together.
sounds more like a shot Schotty to me. Are the OL that thin skinned? Has Sanchez had time throw? He didnt call anybody out the line has not been protecting. That can be the play calling it can be the line calls it could be they suck.
QFT 3 losses in a row in a SB bound team - I would we chirping a lot more than Holmes. I'm fine with this. The OLine knows it, the team knows it. Now take a couple shots downfield Schotty - you fucking pussy. One successful throw will open up the whole god-damned offense.
If the o-line is going to improve it will not be because Holmes talked crap about them to the media. His comments can only hurt team chemistry. There is no upside, only bad can come of it.
since 2000 the Steelers have had 17 arrests(and it doesn't count Ben's wandering hands). Holmes was arrested THREE times before thye let him go, the only guys they let go immediately were bit players. Can we please stop w/ the noneses than the Steelers are above this stuff? http://www.signonsandiego.com/nfl/arrests-database/?appSession=375106172721020 The jets in the same time frame have 8 arrests w/ zero repeat offenders
I agree 100% here. Hunter looked really good in the playoffs adn has bombed badly this regular season. He needs help on every pass play, let alone anything remotly deep. Too many people are saying its the receivers we let go/ brought in. Holmes can get deep, plax has had a season with a 19.9 pre catch average and is a perfect target for a jump ball. Its not the skill guys thats the issue. We need to either keep more protection in, or get back to power running and use more playaction. When mark is hurried he tends tro throw behind guys a lot and thats happened a ton over the first 5 games. My big problem with shotty here is that with the obvious deficiency in pass pro has not been adressed in ways other than to run quick routes. Shrinking the feild for the defense and allowing them to jump thiose routes and stack the box. Even if its a jump ball thats 40 yards deep and gets picked we need to try. Hell a 40 pick is better distance than most of Conely's punts anyway.
Nice find! Notice that the players guilty of repeated arrests are gone? Not a single conviction from that list is on the team today. Take a guess where the worst offenders are? They play for the Jets! The Steelers give a guy a chance to recover from a mistake and if he fails, they get rid of him. If you want to see a telling story, add up the total number of arrests on the Jets current team.
Yeah I noticed that. It took Holmes 3 arrests(he wasn't let go at the time of the 3rd arrest, it was 3-4 months later) and Plax left as a FREE AGENT The total # of arrested Jets on the current team arrested while playing for the Jets is ZERO.
