Not the most important role on the field I know, and definitely not the Jets' biggest worry but... this guy is the improvement we wanted over Weatherford!?!? In my opinion we went this route only because Tanny refuses to pay a punter more than league minimum. That's a mistake in an offense like ours (how many times do we punt each game?), also considering that we usually rely on winning the field position battle and having our D make plays.
He really sucks, I mean he's awful . I love Westhoff but Weatherford was better and he sucked in the playoffs. We seem to always have issues at Punter. I mean, why aren't we even bringing someone in? What's going on with this team?
Conley isn't terrible. He's averaging 40-something, right? He's middle of the pack. Weatherford shit the bed in the postseason. Conley isn't hurting us at all.
avg doesn't tell the whole story. I'll give him this... his hang time is good. But field position could've been much much better. Personally I would've signed Nick Harris (available 'til last week)
He hasn't had any awful kicks, right? His gross is pretty decent. He also had a big 60 yarder last week.
He actually had more than a few awful kicks in Baltimore and I think his kicking was pretty shitty in NE too.
Maybe I've just been too worried about other parts of the team to notice, but Conley hasn't struck me as a problem with this team. It must be the bonding over the shake weights that this years team is missing.
conley is fine! worry about finding a right tackle and some guys on defense that can actually tackle. an oc who isn't running the woody hayes cloud of dust offense would also help.
Conley was good the 1st 3 games but has tailed off the past 2 so I am in cross roads with him and what he will be moving forward. Maybe if Matt Dodge can be righted in the head he can be an option. He looked good this preseason and was neck and neck with Weatherford in Giants camp. He has a heck of a leg just a matter if he can handle pressure and to not let mind games get to him. He has a year under his belt so it can only get better...plus give him Westoff to deal with and maybe Dodge can be developed into something.
Weatherford was awful in the playoffs back-to-back years, and his awful punts at New England helped put us in the 45-3 hole. Weatherford averaged 42.6 yards per punt last year, with a 38.1 net last year. Conley is averaging 42.8 yards per punt, with a 37.6 net. Very little difference between the 2. Not sure where the Weatherford love comes from besides the Shake Weights incident in camp. He was a decent punter, nothing special. Same with Conley. If Conley doesn't improve, the Jets will look to replace him, just like they did with Weatherford.
Yeah it's definitely a revolving door position. Didn't know their numbers were so similar, I feel like Conley has been shanking punts all season long. Must be the bad start to the year.
Weaterford's fake punt runs for 1st downs got him the love IMO(Well outside of that Packers game fail).
like, if hte raiders wanna get rid of robo-leg Lechtler than sure... lets talk aobut punters. seriously, and i know you've mentioned this already so i'm not jumping on your nuts or nothin, there's so many larger issues that having conley as the punter for the remainder of the season, and possibly next isn't going to bother me too much. we're supposed to be so awesome a team that he shouldn't see the field all that much anyway.
