He looks good. He's reacting much quicker to the ball and it seems the game is slowing down to him. I love the intensity he brings when he makes a play, shows he really want to succeed unlike a previous 1st rounder we had. As long as he keeps picking Revis' brain, I'm sure he will be just fine.
First off- I like your brother alot actually (as a player, don't know him personally), and I don't know that anyone can credibly scapegoat him (as I'm writing this I'm realizing you probably meant that more toward SNY and Lucas' comments than my own). I'm just trying to understand what people are seeing as vast improvements in his game. The poster before you asked what was I seeing that made me skeptical (paraphrasing) and I don't know that I can answer that either (aside from the one play that he got beat, I think by Branch). Anyway, my posts are not to insult, but I'm looking for the positive spinners to tell me specifically what they see as improved (I've read his tackling alot here, but I don't remember him as being a Cro-like tackler last year, so I'm not as enthused by the tackles. Thought actually his tackling was a strength even last year).
Tell your brother to tie his dreads into a ponytail. I guarantee he will get his first career INT if he does this.
he's getting his head turned around with enough time to make a play on the ball, whereas last year he got his head turned around as the reciever was just about to make the catch. I.E way too late. while that's a little thing, its huge - bc its enabled him to actually be able to make a play on the ball as opposed to the runner with the ball. and it allows him to use his exceptional tackling (he's a great tackler for a DB - its a strength IMO). he looked lost at times last year, this year he's not lost at all... and is in the right spots. that's waht i've noticed. just overall confidence and playing the spot the ball will be, rather than where the ball was.
I think Wilson has been fantastic this year. Obviously his tackling and lack of allowing YAC is great, but his coverage has been very good too. I would feel very confident putting him in for Cro if need be.
he's played well and the best part is that he is not being forced into a role he's not capable of playing right now. being the nickle guy is a perfect role for him.
If KW played like this last year I don't believe there would be anything negative said about him. His progress compared to last year is heads and shoulders better. I expect big things from him going forward...
wait how is he the scapegoat? nobody is saying he is the scapegoat for sundays game. he got screwed by a BS call, and he broke up 2 passes. besides that I remember him giving up like a 4-5 yard pass on a 1st and 10(no issue there at all) probably another catch somewhere, but i cant even remember. smith played like a piece of trash sunday. he usually does in coverage, unless we have a good lead. when we have a lead, smith is then able to just let people catch balls, and try to hit the WR so hard, he may be out of the game lol. again if anybody on this board was to blame 1 player for this loss, wilson would not even be in the discussion IMO. edit: i think Kyle needs an interception, or a forced fumble badly. need to build him up. also i love him screaming shit on the field. most people hate that, but that fiery behavior is contagious to others.
I think wilson is our second best defensive back right now. He gave up a penalty (and even with the penalty, he turned his head around and located the ball- vast improvement from last year), but stopped a HUGE pass to welker over the middle that if he caught it, he was gaining huge yardage. I think hes playing better than Cro- more consistent play, but obviously not the picks. An offseason with Revis and a boost in confidence did this kid wonders
Playing the slot is a lot tougher then playing the outside because you don't have the sideline. Taking that into account anyone who doesn't see anything good about Wilson's play should go suck on Drew Coleman's jockstrap.
Agreed. Cro was playing so far off his man on Sunday I was wondering what the fuck was going on. Wilson is sticking to receivers much better than Cro and plays with more physicality even though he's not nearly as big. Cro's INT against NE was just dumb luck - he was standing there watching the catch about to be made from several yards away and the ball just miraculously bounced into his hands. I don't see what there is to criticize about Wilson so far this season - he's been playing very solid D.
BGA analysis from Pats game- Kyle Wilson was beaten a couple of times, missed a couple of tackles and was penalized once, but did have a pressure and a pass breakup.
Vince the only people (publically of course) that I saw trying to make Kyle into a scapegoat is Adam Schine and Ray Lucas on Jets Post Game Live directly following the game. There is a reason Schine stars on the show Loudmouths, he just yells things loudly and for the most part doesnt know enough about the game to be even close to intelligent about it. This is just another one of those cases. Kyle played another good game, and he deserves props for the breakups he had, as well as his sure tackling. The only negative I had on him this entire season is the play to branch sunday where he didnt make the tackle or push him out of bounds. For me to be able to say the guy really only made one big mistake in 5 weeks being a second year guy, and the guy opposing qb's want to pick on instead of Revis/Cro, he's been outstanding. As for the 73 yard pass to Welker, I think people are 'ok' with it simply because it was Smith who fubard the play (well we believe Revis passed him to Smith in a zone, but maybe thats not what should have happend). Nobody expects Smith to do anything right in coverage other than knock a guys head off and then incur a 15 yard flag. As far as Revis, even if it was his fault (which like I said, I don't think anybody actually believes it) it would be the first mistake the guy has made in almost 3 years. Sure guys catch passes on him, but he is always where he is supposed to be, and when they catch always makes the tackle all but on the spot. But you are right, if Kyle got beaten on the play, people (myself included) would be pissed. Kyle has made so much progress and too just have a major mental lapse like that would be unacceptable. The reason it would piss us all off is because we have high hopes for him. Unlike with Smith, we expect (hope and pray as well) that he is going to be excellent for us on the backend. Part of the anger would be dissapointment that he isnt growing as we hoped and part of it is because of the anger that the play happened when it shouldnt have. That said, I doubt we see your brother make a mistake where he just gets fooled that badly this season. He will probably give up a big play this year because he is outrun or something like that, but I seriously doubt he is flat out, outsmarted the way Smith was that snap. Kyle has been nearly like glue on his man all year, and we can't ask for more than that out of the guy. He's been great on the inside, and has held his own on the outside for the brief periods when called upon. Kudos to Kyle, tell him to keep up the good work. If we are going anywhere this year, we need him to not only play as he has so far, but to step it up, just like everyone else.
Good to see some people watch games and not just highlights Jets secondary is great and is doing a great job. There are weaknesses on every team and the jets secondary is not one of them. :jets:
Kyle still needs to improve his ball awareness skills. Still gets caught sometimes not knowing where the ball is but he has improved in that area from last year and his coverage skills have been very good. Waiting for him to start making some impact plays here like he did so many times in college. I feel his first pick is coming soon.
