We also shouldn't forget that he sided with Belichick in that whole resignation as HC of the NYJ thingy. Belichick, being petty and vindictive, I think we'd sooner see Al Davis walking the Jets sidelines before Charlie Weis. Charlie'd be burning a bridge that he probably would prefer unburned.
He was QB coach for the raiders last year. P.S. On a second thought, I wouldn't mind him as QB coach. He was very good QB coach in that regard as a matter of fact.
I don't think Belly would care as much now that Mangini is gone... Either way, Weis left the NFL to go be a college coordinator. Unless you're paying an OC an obscene amount of money where he can't say no, and he's not worth that, then he's staying there, trying to get another big-time college HC job, or, as fishtown said, he's doing it for his family. Pointless thread...
You've already invested 50 mil, Several Draft picks,, and your billion dollar organization in Mark Sanchez. The phrase 'obscene amount of money where he can't say no' is relative.
Not really a fair poll to Schotty since the choice is obvious. How about a poll of a 6 year old in some foreign country who doesn't even know what football is or Schotty? That is much more fair to him, and gives him a chance to get 40% of the vote.. Oh, and clearly the answer is Weis.
He already left a pro OC job to take a college OC job. He wants to be a college head coach and his best chance is to maintain his presence and succeed in a college system. While we're at it, how committed do you think he'll actually be to this team when we all know he is going to be looking at just about every NCAA job that opens up? How much money do you really want to throw at that?
He aslo presided oversome of the most successful years of the Patriots and made Matt Cassel look like a viable starting option on two different teams. Call it a wash.
Organizationally, I don't care. You'll get him for this year and the next, and stick him with an assistant that will absorb his philosophy and offense, (like McDaniels did). You pay him 5m over this season and next, with the caveat that he's here till the end of 2012, than he is his own man, and stick him with someone smart as an organizational mentee. F*** Hire Pennington as QB coach, let him be the future at OC, if you can get him out of the booth.. You're not needing the man long term, just enough to institutionalize a system that you didn't do the last time around. McDaniels went from the D, in 2004 to QB Coach. Weis left a year later, and in 2006 JmcD was named OC. The Pats are running an adapted legacy of his offense still. You only need to institutionalize the knowledge.
wheres the option of getting a new QB? The money and picks we invested in this guy is obscene. It was a terrible mistake. In Tanny we trust is a pile of nonsense. We need to stop with the anti schotty htreads for a while and start some new ones. Like Sanchez sucks, Rex is blind, TAnny has made some terrible terrible pivks and decisions. Come on guys, we got alot more to talk about than Schotty. Or Shitty as you clever ones call him.
So you bring in a guy and basically tell the team that he is going to be a lame duck in his second season and then stake the rest of your QB's development on the hope that the next guy is going to b every bit the genius, and just tack a $10mil expense and pay him as much as most HCs for funsies. Grat plan, Hobbes. Right up there with dropping a first round pick for Golden Tate.
Yup. He's also a notorious asshole who's burned bridges at almost every stop in his career. I think that Schottenheimer should go after this season, but I've got no interest in Weis.
Weis was a good OC in NE. I thought play calling was not his strong point, but he had a good system that has stood the test of time and he could coach up quarterbacks. Brady went from a guy who had 700 throws in college to Superbowl MVP in two years. Of course a lot of that might be Brady's innate ability but Weis did give him what he needed to succeed in short order. The thing is though who the heck has succeeded elsewhere in the NFL from the Belichick tree? Few if any.
He wasn't the OC when Matt Cassell led NE to 6 less wins the year after Brady led them to 16-0. last year KC had an incredibly easy sched in an incredibly weak division. How did that playoff game at home work out? He won SBs b/c of Tom Brady, when you have the best QB in the game it makes your job a tad easier. Our QB is fine and we basically traded a 2nd rd pick to get him. It was an absolute heist and he'll be our QB for many years to come.
