7 people sucking. Is there such a thing as a 'gang suck'? I think I need to check out some videos on the internet to be sure.
Our front seven is good, not great, but good. We could use more speed at linebacker. Bart Scott seems to have lost a step. But on the whole they aren't the reason why we're not winning, and I believe they will improve as the season goes on. Our safeties, on the other hand, are a definite problem. One is too small, and the other is too slow, and they both get exploited in coverage.
I dont care if we have 20 sacks at this point, being able to rush the passer means shit when any team can run the ball at will on you.
Where did they do a good job? They gave up 136 yards to another mediocre running back and couldn't get a stop when the game depended on it.
What other "mediocre" running backs hurt them this year? Ray Rice and his 2.6 yards a carry? Felix Jones and his nothingness? Ohhhh.. I guess you are referring to Darren McFadden, who is only one of the best 3 RB's in the entire NFL. And now I guess Green-Ellis who shredded them in the 4th quarter after the D was clearly gassed and trying to contain Tom Brady and his #1 passing attack. This thread is another fucking joke. I really don't think anybody watches the games at this point. Did nobody see DeVito killing Mankins? Pouha plugging up the middle? Guys like Westerman, Pitoitua and Pace getting pressure?
ROLB - Westerman is a young player with a motor and some talent. RDE - Devito is a solid journeyman, maybe more than that. RILB - Harris is a solid plus player. NT - Pouha is a solid journeyman. LILB - Scott is a solid plus player. LDE - Wilkerson is a young player with a motor and some talent, maybe a lot. LOLB - Pace is a talented journeyman but not more than that at this point. I think the Jets have an average front seven at this point without the holes that some teams suffer through. If they had a top 5 player at ROLB they would easily be in the top 10 front seven's at this point and maybe higher than that. The depth is another issue though. They are thin up front and the LB depth is weak now that Westerman is starting.
So by your standards unless a player is elite he is classed as a journeyman? Cmon.. a journeyman is a special teams guy or depth feeder
They dont suck, they just get tired as shit when the offense is not able to sustain a drive. They just need depth and 2 new OLB's (Pace is mediocre, and even Thomas, when healthy was pretty mediocre). Other than that, the other 5 guys are fine.
No, a journeyman is somebody who could be replaced by another solid player without missing a beat. The origin of the phrase was basically a worker who could move from place to place and always find employment because the level of his skills met the competency levels required wherever he went. That describes all of the people I described as journeymen above. They could move from team to team in a 3-4 defense and likely find employment as a regular piece. I would describe players as being at five basic levels in proficiency: star, plus player, journeyman, replacement level (JAG), failure. The Jets have two stars in Revis and Mangold and four plus players in Harris, Scott, Ferguson and Holmes. The journeymen are all the other older starters minus Hunter and Smith. Smith is replacement level and Hunter is unclear at this point although if he's replacement level he is barely so. The young guys like Sanchez, Greene, Slauson, Wilson and Wilkerson are just unknown at this point. The only starter on the Jets that I really don't know how to place is Keller and that's because he's old enough not to be a young guy any more and he's not clearly a plus player at this point. He verges on it but he's not a complete player yet and he can disappear for games at a time and then suddenly re-emerge with a breakout game. My guess is that if Sanchez becomes a plus player or star Keller will also and if not then not.
ditto. I wish the poster would offer his considerable talents and expertise to Woody Johnson. The poster seems to know talent better then T and Rex.
We gave up so many yards on the ground because we played them like we did in the playoffs. Dare Brady to run the ball. Just didn't work as well this time.
You're both wrong. A journeyman (by definition) is a person that goes from place to place. Never staying in one spot. The way you're applying it to players like Pouha and DeVito doesn't make any sense.
