Sanchez was horrid yesterday? Were we watching the same game? He was very good. Should've gotten to throw the ball 35 times against that defense. He also had 4 or 5 easy completions dropped. The third down calls were laughable. Sanchez can't make a vast improvement until Schotty is fired.
I agree with you whole heartedly about our Defense - they are spending so long on the field because our offense can't get things done. Its no wonder that they are out on their feet by the end of the game.
While I agree with most of your post, I disagree with this. The D played okay in my opinion and I will not say they were on the field too long going into the last drive. Don't get me wrong, the offense did not do them any favors and still bears most of the blame, but for the game the Jets TOP was 26:05 and the Pats TOP was 33:55 (Pats had the ball 57% of the time). However if you take away the final drive by each team (so heading into the Patriots final drive) you take away the Pats 7:14 drive and the Jets 1:02 drive and you see that heading into the final drive, the Jets had the ball for 25:03 and the Pats had the ball for 26:41 so the Jets had the ball for about 48% and Pats for 52%. They did not do themselves any favors with a few mental errors and missed tackles early on also. But before I get blasted, I still blame the O and the ridiculous slow start
I agree. One of the 3rd and 6 plays that we ran, we had 4 guys running a 5 yard curl. Is that on the players not going the extra yard and turning around? Or Schotty calling it for 1 yard short? I don't know. But from the camera angle you could clearly see ALL FOUR players a yard short of the 1st down marker.
we have an offensive coordinator who enjoys playing from behind .....its our motto....we did all last year
A good portion of the blame for that is the D the pats were running. If the receivers had run routes past the 1st down line they simply wouldn't have been open. The receivers knew they had to run a quick route and if they didn't get the ball, there would be no chance of a 1st down. They all think that they can make plays and make guys miss. Just watch how often guys get tackled and look pissed and slam their hand against the ground. They thought they could make that guy miss and get umpteen more yards... Rewatch that play. I know the exact one you're talking about. At the 1st down line there were defenders on each receiver, and maybe more than 1.
I'm not entirely sure where the responsibility for this lies but I think it's our GM, Mr. Tannenbaum. On offense, there was no improvement at all in terms of new personnel. Face it, Burress for Braylon Edwards was not an improvement, hell, its not even parity. Who didn't know that? Signing Derrick Mason was grasping at straws trying to find another receiver, any receiver and that's what we got. I expect he'll be cut real soon, especially if he's been in Rex's office whining about the offense. It might be okay to do that if you actually produce on the filed, otherwise STFU... I also note that suddenly the depth on the O-Line became an issue when Mangold went down. That problem has been obscured by Mangold's return but we are one injury away from it becoming a problem again. Who is responsible for bringing in the best personnel available to replace what a team loses? Its the GM folks, he's buying the groceries and I would say this off seasons trip to the super market got us only lettuce when we needed some meat. The above is not to say that Shotty called a whale of an offensive game, he did not but the problems with this team began before the regular season ever started. I'll give the defense the benefit of the doubt. Too long on the field and at the end they were vulnerable to the run as they kept playing pass
Yeah, not sure if I could blame those three-and-outs on Sanchez, since many of them were a result of bad playcalling. Last I checked Sanchez doesn't call the offensive plays. Also, how many 3 and 10 passes were made underneath? It was insane.
I'm amazed that this point keeps getting ignored. People keep saying that it wasn't the defense's fault that they gave up the last long drive to the Patriots because they had been on the field so much, but it was simply not true - as you note, the time of possession was actually quite close at that point. To me the defense does not get a pass on that last drive any more than the offense does for the 3 and outs.
Dude the offense left us with an excellent opportunity to win the game after scoring the 4th quarter TD and the Defense completely effed it up. The defense was gassed because the Pats got first down after first down whether they ran, or passed the ball all day long. How many 3 and outs did we have yesterday? Look at the length of the Pats drives and the number of plays. The defense was pathetic.
7 3 and outs will gas any defense no matter what the time of possession looks like. They go 10 plays on defense and then three and half minutes later (TV timeouts) they are back out for 8 plays and then 3 minutes later they are back out for 9 plays and that's it they are gassed. When the offense's modus operandi is an effective drive every third or fourth drive as the Jets is the overall TOP numbers don't tell the whole story. The Jet's defense was on the field for 20 plays in the first quarter and 19 plays in the second quarter. They were on the field for 24 plays in the third quarter. That's game over for a defense. On the field for a games worth of plays by the end of the third quarter. The Jets had run 37 plays on offense in the same span of time that the Pats ran 63. That's why the defense had nothing left in the fourth quarter.
Last year we had a great start which came in very handy during the second half of the season. We already have 3 losses, which means we're only allowed 3 losses to even have a shot at the playoffs. Not saying it's over, but if there was ever a time to have one of those 5-0 streaks, it's now.
Exactly. The 3 and outs are what killed us right from the start. Time of possessions doesnt mean anything bc our defense was out on the field the for 8 minutes at a time when we had about four 3 and outs back to back... Thats like saying, go run a mile, wait two minutes, and repeat 3 times and then go play another whole second half of a game... I dont care how good of shape you are in, that will drain anyone. And its probably why Pouha and Devito werent on the field at the end- they were too gassed that they would have been even more of a liability than their backups.
you seem to be forgetting that rex wanted to put a stop to the air sanchez game because of the turnovers he was creating at the worst of times during the games. if the head coach says he wants to go back to the ground and pound, you can't blame shotty for that. i'm not a shotty fan, but he shouldn't be the scapegoat like i'm seeing on this site. shotty is a part of the problem, but there are many others. this team needs a balanced offense to be at it's peak and sanchez did not have a good enough game to win. he threw behind recievers all game long. or is it shotty's fault for that also?
I completely understand that we wanted to get the running game going. Im not an idiot... And I loved that we actually DID run the ball pretty well. BUT anyone can call a run play so lets not credit schotty for that... What he should be doing, is calling plays that actually work on 3rd down. I dont even know how many button hooks that end up 2 yards from a 1st down... And its not like the WRs are running different routes, and Sanche dumps it of to the button hook, ALL of the WR are running the same routes... At least 5 of the 7 failed 3 and outs is on schotty and that has nothing to do with running the ball. Interesting stat- we have attempted 2, yes 2, passes of over 30 yards...and 11 of over 20 yards. That is absolutely atrocious. Nothing can be an excuse for that. Brady had that done in the 1st half. How can we win a game with absolutely NO longball
The defense was on the field for the exact same number of drives as the offense was. If they were on the field for 63 plays in the first three quarters, it sounds to me like they couldn't get off the field. And were they so gassed that they had to give up TD drives of 5 and 3 plays in the first quarter and the start of the third quarter, respectively?
While I agree that it is not entirely his fault (dropped passes ect), he really needs to step the fuck up. Would Matt Ryan, Josh Freeman, heck even Ryan Fitz check out of a shitty play call? Ultimately, it is the Quarterbacks responsibility to make changes on the fly based on what the Defense is showing him. While Mark does check out of plays (Killl, Kill) he dosent call his own plays, he checks to a dive, or a slant. Now I am not a Quarterback but if he truly wants to be a leader; these are the intangibles that he needs to posses. He needs to be held accountable too; this isnt his first year in this offense...Take the step we all want you to Mark. Put up or shut-up.
