It's all about the money but if the Big East is somehow able to pull Navy and Army (it seems like Navy and AFA are a package deal) then they get what they want. Their other sports will drop down to the Missouri Valley conference and Army and Navy I assume will stay in the Patriot for other sports as there is some type of rule against having your sports in two separate FBS conferences but in the case of say Hawaii who joined the MWC for football only their other sports are in the Big West, very few of the other Big West schools offer football but the ones that do they play a division below. If this is what happens and it changes by the hour it may not turn out all bad for the MWC and here is why. The article quotes the AFA AD as saying the Big East goes to 10, w/o TCU right now they are at 6. You add AFA, Navy and that is 8. Throw in ECU and UCF that gives you 10 but deals a major blow to CUSA. That could give the MWC a chance to poach Houston, SMU and Utep because CUSA will be vulnerable.
Today it could be mine... and with a shitty football program we could royally be fucked if it does happen.
Well it depends how things go Monday if the SEC takes Mizzou then it'll all depend on who raids who first. If the Big 12 strikes first then Air Force isn't going anywhere, if the Big East strikes first good-bye C-USA because the Big 12 might raid the Big East anyway.

SEC meets and votes in Mizzou as #14 2. Big East meets and asks members to double leaving price(which won't happen) while not inviting anyone... 3. Big 12 decides on 10-12 members invites Louisville and/or WVU & Cincy 4. ND takes it's Olympic sports and UConn to ACC despite BC's objection or Rutgers or just Rutgers and UConn. 5a. Air Force gets invite with Navy to join 1 or 2 team conference(USF & UConn/Rutgers)??? 5b. MWC invites USF just to cause the demise of the Big East football conference. 5c. C-USA raids Big East takes USF and/or UConn/Rutgers. Also Big East has to have 8 full time members in all sports to keep FBS status. So just inviting football only programs won't cut it. https://twitter.com/#!/bylawblog/status/123149830901084161 https://twitter.com/#!/bylawblog/status/123150131515228160
Big East commish desperately wants to keep his job: http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/10/09/big-east-reportedly-targeting-boise-state/
Today we have: Big East to possibly have 12 members http://brett-mcmurphy.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/29532522/32639227 SEC didn't vote on Mizzou, holds everyone up https://twitter.com/#!/BryanDFischer/statuses/123438715816259584
Teams might not be leaving C-USA anytime soon http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...f-big-east-news-1012-20111011,0,5855483.story $7 million to leave. That's $2 million more than the Big East(lol) and they can't join until 2013 at the earliest. http://www.denverpost.com/afa/ci_19085225 Air Force's exit fee from MWC would be $5 million http://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...t-conference/2011/10/11/gIQADUmhdL_story.html Army wants to stay Independent
They've also been looking at Boise so if they did go through with this they'd have to pay 24 million just to rebuild a conference and still not be assured an AQ spot in 2013. Also the Rutgers AD has been given the green light to start looking at potential conference moves. What took so long?
The fact that nobody really wanted them. They're 4th on the ACC's list and the Big 10 would only take them if ND asked them to. Maybe the C-USA is trying to lure them with their potential merger with the MWC for the BE's AQ spot.
I don't agree with that, I think Rutgers was hoping that the BE could be saved or they had something up their sleeve. Maybe the Big 10 has secretly worked out a deal for them and Mizzou. Both schools would be great fits in the Big 10 and have made no secret about their desire to join the Big 10. There has to be a reason why Missouri is holding off on expressing their desire to join the SEC. It certainly can't be because they love the Big 12. They hate Texas with a passion and would love nothing better then to distance themselves from them. Rutgers has value to the Big 10, AAU school with very high academic standards as well as being the team that carries the NYC Metro Market. Paterno would love to bring NYC/NJ into the Big 10 and gives the Big 10 such a huge regional landscape that would stretch from Lincoln, NE to New York City and carry such markets as Omaha, Chicago, Milwaukee, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Indianapolis (KC and St Louis if Mizzou was added) Philadelphia, Detroit , Pittsburgh and New York. That equates to market #1 #3 #4 #11 #15 #18 #21 #23 #25 #32 #33 #34 #35 #39 (Lancaster, PA) #41 (Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo MI) That's 15 of the top 50 TV Markets in the country but 3 of the top 4. That means some serious bucks to the Big 10 and their network. Taht doesn't even include the entire states of Nebraska or Iowa who turn out on droves to support their schools. I understand Iowa shares with ISU but the Hawkeyes dominate the state. People say Rutgers doesn't draw support but if they had a home slate with Michigan, Penn St and Nebraska they would drum up interest. Certainly a lot more then USF, Louisville or ECU ever would.
This should happen(along with Kansas & ISU) but since the Big 10 has such a hard-on for ND, I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. I think it'll all depend on the Big 12 or SEC inviting Louisville & West Virginia. Once those 2 are gone then the Big East will be dead since there's no way in hell that UConn, Rutgers, USF, and Cincy are able to hold an AQ bid which will end up stopping the BE's stupid expansion plans since it'll be just another C-USA. Hopefully that also pushes ND's hand into the ACC which with UConn would give them 16. Of course the only other way to get the Big 10 moving would be if the ACC could miraculously steal Penn St. dropping them to 11 and forcing them to take Mizzou.
As if it wasn't ridiculous enough the Big East invitation to Boise St is "immenent" and now sources are saying San Diego State is on the list of the Big East. You seriously have to be fucking kidding me. Will somebody step in and just strip this joke of a fucking conference their AQ status? San Diego St in the Big East is about the most ridiculous thing I've heard in all of this. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/oct/11/realignment-craze-touches-on-absurdity-by-george/
Well the basketball schools are trying just that. http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/extras/colleges_blog/2011/10/big_easts_fate.html "The basketball factions were adamant about not adding anyone, while the football faction argued that if the Big East is going to survive as a BCS conference, whose champion gained automatic entry to a BCS bowl it is imperative for Boise State, with its high national ranking was a necessity for survival." So we're down to two people who want to Big East to survive as a football conference, the idiot commish and possibly the AD of USF who would most likely come crawling back to the C-USA when it's all said and done. Also in the article the Big East hired as the director of basketball the guy that UConn just fired as their director of basketball.
Well I guess we can count Temple out of the BE discussion as Nova is cock blocking them. Throw in the 6 remaining schools are divided on adding Boise. USF, WVU and Louisville. There are so many different factions in that conference they are so fucked. Only some leach of a school like ECU or UCF wants into that trainwreck. Navy and AFA are all but out at this point. Boise certainly isn't going without any assuarnce they are going to stick together. Throw in according to ESPN they probably will lose AQ in the next evaluation period even with Boise. http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2011/10/big_east_expansion_talks_cloud.html Navy and the Big East can't even agree on exit fees. Navy isn't going to join this disaster without some reassuarnce it is going to stick around. http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...navy-reportedly-hitting-snags-over-exit-fees/
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/coll...big_east_may_hike_exit_UeOYA562UF6RL51LijVw1I "All of the Big East schools held a conference call on Monday. That was followed by a basketball-members call on Tuesday and an FBS members call yesterday. One source told The Post the basketball call was particularly heated, with some harsh words delivered to Notre Dame, which competes in the Big East in all sports except football, in which it is independent. " http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...neasy-about-big-east-20111012,0,5647050.story Consider Notre Dame's two basketball coaches officially worried about what the future holds for the Big East and their programs' place in it. While McGraw and Irish men's basketball coach Mike Brey didn't sound a death knell on Wednesday when asked separately about the conference's fate, their outlook didn't ring of optimism, either. "I'm concerned, there's no question about it," Brey said. "The Big East has been great for us. That connection back to the East for our basketball program is very important. Playing in that corridor back there has been very important for us. ... "What Brey said he made clear to athletic director Jack Swarbrick was the need to mantain that connection to the East Coast no matter what occurs. That's about as close to crystal ball-reading as either coach came Wednesday, given that the ACC provides the only viable East Coast option outside of the Big East. "I'm hopeful we can keep the Big East together," Brey said. "If not, I think we really need the East, something in the East. That's my opinion."" A rift is starting to show up between the Irish and the BE and the ND Men's basketball coach hints at wanting to be in the ACC if/when the BE crumbles.
That goes along with what I read about why SU left. SU said that ND voted against a football TV deal for the conference in August. They were pissed that ND retains full voting powers on football matters even though they do not participate in Football in the conference. Jim B called it a sweatheart deal for ND. I bet the other members of the BE are pissed that they are where they are because of ND. It make sense that the conversation was heated. With that being said I do not think ND will make any decision on what is best for Basketball (or any other sport), they will only do what is best for football.
